“Africa has birthed a lot of special talents that have been creating amazing music for a long time and we’re happy to finally have the platforms and the means to share our music across the continent and to the rest of the world,” Tems tells Billboard. “[The Africa Rising program] allowed my music to reach new listeners and [has] also given my supporters and myself something to be excited about in these tough times.” ALL EYES ON AFRICA Over the past several years, labels, distributors and industry trade groups have turned their focus towards the African music market, and Apple Music is not the only streaming service making inroads on the continent, or supporting its local artists. (Tems, for example, was also included as part of the latest class of YouTube’s Foundry program, whi...
You followed an earlier three-year recording break with a five-year interlude. Are these breaks intentional or happenstance? As far as length of time, it’s not really intentional. I’ll just chill for a second and then a little break turns into a longer break. But as long as it turns out to be, I do feel breaks are necessary. Taking breaks when you’re younger, it feels different than when you’re older. For one thing, getting yourself back into the swing of things is different, both physically and vocally. I’m starting to understand that now. It’s a different kind of building back up as you get older … even things like getting up earlier and doing interviews. How has the pandemic inspired and challenged your singing and songwriting? I’m amazed people are telling me I sound stronger and...
“I have to say you’re kind of like my good luck charm,” Astin told Clarkson when she praised his cover, noting that he also did “Since U Been Gone” in the first PP movie and on the soundtrack. But, he added, “I don’t know if you know this, but your songs are hard!” Clarkson agreed, joking that she usually figures that out when she goes on tour and realizes she has to sing “all 17 of these songs every single night! Like over and over. That’s when I lower the [register of the] songs.” Astin said his moment with Zoey was especially special because it’s the first time that Levy’s character has sung a duet with someone on the show. In the same episode, Clarkson chatted with 9-1-1 star Jennifer Love Hewitt about the ti...

The ubiquitous Dave Grohl celebrated his 52nd birthday with the Foo Fighters, giving fans two new songs on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night (Jan. 14). From the upcoming Medicine at Midnight LP, the Foo Fighters rocked the poignant “Waiting on a War,” with Grohl playing acoustic guitar, and the insanely catchy riff-rocker “No Son of Mine,” complete with female backup vocals. Medicine at Midnight, the lineup’s tenth studio album, lands Feb. 5. So far, they’ve served up a trio of tracks off the tasty Medicine: “Shame Shame,” “Waiting on a War” and “No Son of Mine”. “Waiting on a War” was written for his daughter Harper, who had asked her father, “‘Daddy, is there going to be a war?’” Grohl recalled in a statement. “My heart sank as I realized that she was now living under the same dark ...
FIREWIND, the band featuring former OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist Gus G., has released the official music video for the song “Devour”. The track is taken from the band’s ninth, self-titled studio album, which was made available in May 2020. In early 2020, FIREWIND officially parted ways with guitarist/keyboardist Bob Katsionis and singer Henning Basse. The group’s new vocalist is Herbie Langhans, who has previously played with AVANTASIA and SINBREED. With his charismatic voice, Langhans refines each and every last one of the new songs and infuses them with an expressive force that is remarkable. Gus and Langhans got to know each other back in the autumn of 2019, when the FIREWIND leader was looking for a suitable replacement for Henning Basse after the tour with QUEENSRŸC...
Former W.A.S.P. guitarist Chris Holmes spoke to Cassius Morris of WatchMojo‘s brand new music podcast “Innersleeve” about the documentary film “Mean Man: The Story Of Chris Holmes”, written and directed by French filmmakers Antoine De Montremy and Laurent Hart. The project, which will be made available on Blu-ray, DVD and VOD on January 15. was born in 2014 after De Montremy and Hart had an opportunity to meet and direct Holmes in a music video for the Holmes-penned song “Let It Roar” in Cannes. At that time, the now-62-year-old rocker had more or less disappeared from the music scene, leaving his home in the U.S. to seek a new beginning with his wife Sarah in France. Asked if he had appoached W.A.S.P. leader Blackie Lawless about participating in ...
German/American metal legends ACCEPT have released the official visualizer video for their new single, “Zombie Apocalypse”. The track is taken from the band’s upcoming album, “Too Mean To Die”, which will be made available on January 29 (postponed two weeks from the previously announced January 15) via Nuclear Blast. The LP will be the group’s first without bassist Peter Baltes, who exited ACCEPT in November 2018. He has since been replaced by Martin Motnik. ACCEPT‘s lineup has also been expanded with the addition of a third guitarist, Philip Shouse, who originally filled in for Uwe Lulis during last year’s “Symphonic Terror” tour, before being asked to join the band permanently. ACCEPT singer Mark Tornillo stated about the single...
New Orleans disciples of hardcore, blues-based, post-amplified audio wreckage EYEHATEGOD have released “Fake What’s Yours”, the second single from their first new full-length album in seven years, “A History Of Nomadic Behavior”, due on March 12 via Century Media Records. Singer Mike IX Williams said: “‘Fake What’s Yours’ is the second single from our new album, ‘A History Of Nomadic Behavior’, and it’s a pure uncut chunk of anti-authoritarian preach-speak set to a condescending guitar riff that could only be born from the dirty streets of New Orleans. We can’t wait for everyone to hear the full record, but for now, put on your gas masks, lock your doors, stay home and LISTEN!” “A History Of Nomadic B...

Shame have unveiled their new album Drunk Tank Pink. Stream it below via Apple Music and Spotify. The record marks the sophomore release from the UK post-punk band, following the 2018 album Songs of Praise. The 11-track effort was initially announced back in November of last year, and it was preceded by three very strong singles — “Snow Day”, “Alphabet”, and “Water in the Well”. Unlike other loud-mouthed British contemporaries like Sleaford Mods and IDLES, Shame’s take on The Fall-inspired rock is a little less scraggly and a bit more polished. However, these shout-along melodies and taut grooves are balanced by cerebral lyrical concepts and grandiose music videos, so they’re by no means making music that’s devoid of challenging material. Editors’ Picks Drunk Tank Pink was produ...
