Gwen Stefani is back. The No Doubt singer/The Voice judge released her first new song in four years. Titled “Let Me Reintroduce Myself,” the song, well, Stefani’s way of cheekily saying that she’s back after that fairly lengthy layoff. The only material she’d done since 2016’s This Is What the Truth Feels Like was 2017’s You Make It Feel Like Christmas. “Let Me Reintroduce Myself” is bouncy and reggae-tinged, as the singer herself noted in a statement. “This song is a way of saying I’m back with new music. Paul McCartney Says the Beatles Struggled With Mental Health Issues
Paul McCartney recently revealed that The Beatles were most likely struggling with mental illness at the height of their fame. Instead of talking about it with each other, “they talked about it through [their] songs.” In The Sunday Times, McCartney discussed how he, Ringo Starr, John Lennon and George Harrison would all hide their problems by making fun of them. He mentioned how John especially would use songwriting as a way to express his issues. “‘Help! I need somebody,’ he wrote. Bob Dylan Sells Entire Songwriting Catalog to Universal
In a blockbuster deal, Bob Dylan has sold the publishing rights to his entire back catalog, which goes back to 1962, to Universal Music Group. The New York Times reports that the deal was for a whopping $300 million. In the deal, UMG acquired over 600 of Dylan’s songs, which the legendary singer-songwriter controlled the copyrights to. It includes all of his songs through this year’s Rough and Rowdy Ways. Another factor, industry sources say, is that the generation of singer-songwriters who came of age in the sixties and seventies is at a point where they’re thinking about their legacies, as well as estate planning. On December 4, Primary Wave Music Publishing announced that it had acquired a majority stake in the catalog of singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks, in a deal that The Wall Street Journal reported valued her compositions at $100 million.
