If The Mandalorian Season 2 were a feature film, this week’s episode, “The Tragedy”, would set us firmly in the mid-point — that moment where all is lost, doom befalls our heroes, and the audience wonders how they’re going to get out of this particular pickle. It’s one of the shorter episodes in the season at 33 minutes, but a lot goes down in that jam-packed half hour: Boba Fett! Baby Yoda The Child Grogu gets Jedi-napped! Of course, all these developments are packed tightly into an action-heavy chapter courtesy of director Robert Rodriguez, filled with nail-biting developments, shocking twists, and more than a few Easter eggs (as per usual). So let’s strap on our jetpacks and dive in. Again, it goes without saying that there are some major, major spoilers ahead. You must b...

Taska Black has returned with a passionate new single featuring Tessa Dixson, “Found Myself,” out via Martin Garrix‘s STMPD RCRDS banner. “Found Myself” is a crawling, contemplative ballad that that leans heavily on organic instrumentals as Dixson’s powerful voice pairs effortlessly with Black’s refined songwriting ability. The subdued beat and ambient vocal chops help create an emotional atmosphere. The introspective meaning behind “Found Myself” is a refreshing take on a love song that fits perfectly with the tone both of the track’s creators were able to curate. “Losing the love you built seems like a long and lonely road when actually it allows you to find yourself and realize the strength that you thought...

Matt Nash and VY•DA have found an excellent blend of both their sounds, as the former’s signature dynamic horns mesh effortlessly with the latter’s deeper ho...

By Emlyn Travis As the clock ticks past midnight on a chilly October evening in Seoul, South Korea, there is a light that doesn’t go out in the SM Entertainment building. Inside, NCT members Taeyong, Doyoung, Xiaojun, Lucas, Jaemin, Jaehyun, and Shotaro are wide awake, sipping on iced Americanos as they make fun of each other, pick at each other’s clothing, and chat excitedly via Zoom about the group’s most ambitious project yet: their two-part album NCT 2020 Resonance. “It’s a meaningful album,” 23-year-old singer Jaehyun answers in English. “[It has] WayV, NCT Dream, and NCT 127, and we’ve all grown a lot. I think in the year 2020, it was meaningful for us to become one.” To understand the true impact and scale of an album like Resonance, one must understand NCT and its many permutations...
There have been so many songs this year destined to be heard in a club, but Rina Sawyama’s “Lucid” has quite literally pushed music lovers over the edge. As the song transports you to an alternate universe of tight spaces, glittery eyeshadow, and flashing lights, “Lucid” reminds you what it’s like to feel alive. Its use of heavy synth and lyrical looping is nostalgic of the early 2010s DJ movement, where the desired result was a simultaneous, collective release of emotion. The dance breaks, which come exactly when you desire them most, do just that, but for a new generation of listeners. With the undying success of “XS” and “Comme des Garçons (Like the Boys),” 2020 has clearly been the year of Rina Sawayama. “Lucid” finishes it off perfectly. —Sarina Bhutani You Deserve to Make Money Even ...
When Chadwick Boseman died in August, tributes poured in from all over the globe, a lot from people using the term “king” affectionately. Onscreen, Boseman had many jobs — iconic soul singer, a history-making Black Supreme Court justice, a history-making Black baseball player — but perhaps none defined him more than the role of actual royalty: King T’Challa, a.k.a. Black Panther, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was a king. He was a hero. At the MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest of All Time on Sunday, December 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, Boseman will be posthumously recognized as such. He’ll receive the Hero for the Ages honor, presented by his Marvel co-stars Don Cheadle and Robert Downey Jr. The honor goes to a star “whose heroism onscreen was only surpassed by...
By Rob LeDonne As the pop star Shawn Mendes unleashes his fourth studio album Wonder, buoyed by its eponymous single, into the world today (December 4), it’s clear to hear a natural continuation of his unique musical perspective: raw, emotional lyrics complemented by catchy, guitar-forward, and occasionally swelling production. It’s a style Mendes has refined over the course of his entire discography, the bulk of which was crafted by a tight, integral group of co-writers: Teddy Geiger, Geoff Warburton, and Scott Harris. Harris, a Long Island native, found his first taste of chart-topper status with his co-write on “Don’t Let Me Down,” which The Chainsmokers and Daya took to No. 3 in 2016. He’s since penned hits with Niall Horan, P!nk, Julia Michaels, and more. But his work with Mendes has ...
