KORN has released a cover of THE CHARLIE DANIELS BAND classic “The Devil Went Down To Georgia”, featuring a guest appearance by rapper YelaWolf, exclusively via Bandcamp. All proceeds from the track will be donated to Awakening Youth, a nonprofit organization devoted to young people faced with the loss of a parent due to divorce, addiction, death, being surrendered for adoption, or other reasons. Over a galloping bounce, the band rip dueling guitar leads as distortion bleeds into eerie feedback. Frontman Jonathan Davis tears through this timeless story, trading off verses with YelaWolf as they take on the roles of “The Devil” and “Johnny.” The fiddle battle for Johnny‘s soul has never sounded quite like this. Recorded during the sessions for the cr...

HALESTORM‘s Joe Hottinger and Lzzy Hale have told Cryptic Rock that they have been using the coronavirus downtime to work on the follow-up to 2018’s “Vicious” album. “Yeah, we have a lot of new music,” Joe said. “We had a ton of new music that we had been working on before this thing went down. Now, since we’ve been stuck [at home in Nashville], Lzzy has written a ton of songs and I’ve been working on those. It all feels kind of fresh again; topics have deeper, new meanings.” Lzzy added: “There is that dichotomy of, I’m sad that we can’t be in a studio right now to make our new record. However, we were one of the lucky ones because we actually slated this time to be able to write a record. Right now we are suppos...
With everyone sequestered and self-quarantining due to the coronavirus, we’ve asked our favorite artists to come up with playlists that keep you entertained. Here is Ross Gordon of rising Scottish rockers Cold Years: Our debut album, Paradise [Friday, Sept. 4, Inside Job/eOne], is a real progression for us as a band, and it talks a lot about escaping a life that you feel miserable in to pursue the things you really want and why you want them. It was a really strange concept for me to write on because I was in a really bad place, personally, at the time and this record just shines on the fact that something better is possible if you really work for it. Here are some songs that inspired this record, both lyrically and musically. Without them, it would not be what it is. The Bouncing Souls – ...
Source: Marla Aufmuth / Getty Politically interview opportunities can either go really well or be too hot to handle. One media personality had time for a Trump staffer. As spotted on Crooks And Liars, a recent episode of AM Joy proved once again why Black women should be celebrated and protected. Tiffany Cross, who was sitting in for regular host Joy Reid, put Bruce LeVell in his place quicker than a real estate agent. In a Q&A that was intended to discuss current-day hot topics, Donald Trump’s Diversity Director found himself in the hot seat when it became clear he is 45’s son. When asked about the POTUS’ failed attempt to course correct the spread of COVID-19 the “National Diversity Coalition” representative claimed that the President is doing an outstanding job with the pa...

Don’t look now, but Trent Reznor is zeroing in on that EGOT. The Nine Inch Nails frontman already has an Academy Award and multiple Grammys to his name. Today, he received two Emmy nominations. Reznor and collaborator Atticus Ross’ original score for HBO’s Watchmen received recognition in two categories: Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics (“The Way It Used To Be”) and Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited Series. If Reznor and Ross were to win in either category, they’d be just a Tony Award away from achieving EGOT status. Nine Inch Nails: The Musical, anyone? Beastie Boys and director Spike Jonze also picked up a pair of nominations for their documentary Beastie Boys Story. The film is nominated for both Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special and Outstanding Writing for a ...
Blaqk Audio, the synth outfit made up of AFI members Davey Havok and Jade Puget, have announced a new album, Beneath the Black Palms. The entire LP will be released on August 21st, but the duo has made Side A, comprised of five songs, available today. The group is asking that Democrats and Republicans “establish clear policies requiring campaigns to seek consent of featured recording artists, songwriters, and copyright owners before publicly using their music in a political or campaign setting.” Other signatories include Amanda Shires, B-52s, Blondie, Cyndi Lauper, Elvis Costello, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, Jason Isbell, Linkin Park, Lykk...
#EmmysSoWhite? Not this year. On Tuesday morning, the Television Academy announced its nominations for the 2020 Emmys, delivering what’s reportedly their most diverse slate in history. As Variety points out, out of the 102 acting nominees this year, 35 of those slots went to Black performers, accounting for 34.3% of the total slate. For context, that’s an increase from the previous high of 27.7% in 2018, and especially last year’s 19.8%. It’s a refreshing change that aligns with the vision of Television Academy chairman and CEO Frank Scherma, who led off this morning’s event by saying, “2020 isn’t just about the global health crisis. This year we are also bearing witness to one of the greatest fights for social justice in history, and it is our duty to use this medium for change.” However,...
Korn has teamed up with YelaWolf to deliver a cover of The Charlie Daniels Band’s “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” In the new rendition, frontman Jonathan Davis trades off verses with YelaWolf as they take on the roles of “The Devil” and “Johnny” in the classic tale. “I’ve always said it, but country music is some of the darkest ever,” said Davis in a press statement. “Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, and, of course, Charlie Daniels all turned pain into some really powerful music that sounded alive. ‘The Devil Went Down To Georgia’ is a classic story, and we wanted to release it now to help others in need.” All proceeds from the track will be donated to Awakening Youth, a nonpr...
