The United States’ inability to effectively combat the coronavirus pandemic is already forcing lasting changes in the entertainment industry. The latest stems out of a new deal between AMC Theaters and Universal Pictures, which will see the theatrical exclusivity for newly released movies reduced to just 17 days. As The Hollywood Reporter reports, the deal only applies to AMC’s US locations, but covers releases from both Universal and Focus Features. After a 17-day period that must include three separate weekends, the studios will have the option to make their movies available as video on demand rentals. While details are largely being kept undisclosed, it appears AMC will receive a revenue share from the VOD streaming. This marks a huge about-face for AMC, which had frequently threat...
Quarantine has changed a lot for David Lynch. It’s given him time to jumpstart his weather report series, upload never-streamed-before short films, and literally voice his support for Black Live Matter. Arguably best of all, it’s granted him ample time to expand his YouTube channel and find some much needed inner peace, both of which he talked about in a rare new interview with The Daily Beast. The legendary director is a man of few words, but that didn’t stop him from explaining how the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has altered his life for the better. Technically he was already making plans for his YouTube channel, David Lynch Theater, after filming for Twin Peaks: The Return wrapped, but it wasn’t until the “beautiful” life of forced isolation arrived that he found time to brin...
Mastodon’s Brent Hinds teamed with Marcus King on Monday night to cover Black Sabbath’s “Electric Funeral” and ZZ Top’s “Thunderbird” during a livestreamed charity concert. The show was the third installment of King’s “Four of a Kind” live stand supporting MusiCares, the Recording Academy’s nonprofit organization helping musicians during times of crisis. Spotify’s COVID-19 Music Relief project is matching donations up to a collective total of $10 million. As Jambase reports, King will close out the series with a tribute to The Band’s The Last Waltz. In May, Mastodon guitarist Bill Kelliher noted that the band has “20 rough songs” recorded for their upcoming eighth LP, which follows 2017’s Emperor of Sand. They’re also contributing a song to the upcoming Bill & Ted sequel. Dru...

The 98-minute fan session saw several hundred BVB diehards ask the band about everything from their new music to their favorite foods when it was live, and has garnered thousands of views on Twitch in the 10 days since. Seeing as it’ll soon be wiped from Twitch history due to the platform’s time limits on keeping streams, it’s now officially the very first video from SPIN’s Untitled Twitch Stream to be uploaded to SPIN’s official YouTube channel. Check out the video above (or on YouTube), and don’t forget to subscribe, like, and/or follow SPIN on both Twitch and YouTube for all future live and recorded video performances, Q&As, and more. Join Poppy and dance through the apocalypse. On her reliably genre-repellent new single, “Khaos x4,” the vocalist moves from cutesy whisper to frightening scream over a shifting backdrop of glitchy electronics, wailing metal guitars, and power-pop flourishes. “Everyone around you is a casualty,” she sings. “I’m happy that the world is gonna end.” Listen below. “Khaos x4″ is one of four bonus tracks on I Disagree (more), an upcoming expanded edition of her latest LP, I Disagree. The album, out Aug. 14 via Sumerian Records, also features the previously unreleased cuts “If It Bleeds,” “Bleep Bloop,” and “Don’t Ask.” Poppy was set to support Deftones on a summer North American tour, which, like the majority of live music, has been altered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 26-date trek is ...

Sponsored Season 35 mandated elimination-round wins, but many previous players stepped up 5h ago Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today: Benjamin Franklin may have coined the adage, but Challenge contestants — particularly on the most recent season, Total Madness — have been living by the statement. Season 35 — which mandated that players win at least one elimination round to qualify for the final mission — players schemed not to avoid Purgatory, but to weasel their ways in. Cast members like Tori, Jenny and Jordan campaigned to get the inevitable over with, and while it worked out well for some, the choice to step up early sometimes meant competitors left early too. Still, Total Madness wasn’t the first time that players took the difficult road — and took it early — inst...
Way back in January 2019, Lana Del Rey alerted her fans that she’d recently “finished a short book of poetry I’ve been writing over the last 13 months that I’ll be putting out later.” In the 18 months since then, we’ve learned the book’s title, Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass, as well as Lana’s plans to follow it with a new album later in 2020. But today (July 28), Violet is finally here — as an audiobook. It includes 14 poems read by Lana herself and accompanied by music from Jack Antonoff, who produced Lana’s highly acclaimed 2019 album Norman Fucking Rockwell. According to her website, the hardcover copy will be available September 29; she’ll also offer it on CD and vinyl and as an ebook. To celebrate the release, you can ...
