Korn Unveil Cover of Charlie Daniels’ “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” Featuring Yelawolf: Stream

Korn have unleashed a cover of the Charlie Daniels classic “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”, featuring guest vocals from rapper Yelawolf. Proceeds from the song will benefit the nonprofit organization Awakening Youth. The track was recorded during the sessions for Korn’s 2019 album, The Nothing, but sees its release less than a month after the passing of Charlie Daniels himself. The country music and Southern rock legend died July 6th at the age of 83 after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke. Korn’s version of the song features frontman Jonathan Davis trading verses with Yelawolf, as dueling guitar leads by Brian “Head” Welch and James “Munky” Shaffer offer a distorted take on the original track’s fiddle segments. Davis stated of the track, “I’ve always said it, but country music is some of th...

Angel Olsen Announces New Album Whole New Mess, Shares Title Track: Stream

Last year, Angel Olsen released the orchestral All Mirrors, which quickly became not only one of the best albums of 2019, but of the 2010s in general. While promoting the effort, she frequently mentioned that early versions of the songs were intended for a separate, much more raw release. Today, Olsen has finally announced that companion record, Whole New Mess, and it’s due out August 28th via Jagjaguwar. Nine of the 11 tracks on Whole New Mess will at least be partially familiar to All Mirrors listeners, only here they’re presented in their original, stripped-down form with slightly different titles. You’ll see “Lark Song” instead of the powerful “Lark”, “(Summer Song)” instead of simply “Summer”, and “Chance (Forever Love)” instead of “Chance”. These versions were recorded alon...

BBNaija Update: Tolani Baj and Ka3na get into a fight

BBNaija housemates Tolani Baj and Ka3na were at each other’s throat as they engaged in a verbal fight over food.  The episode took place when the Big Brother Housemates were having their breakfast when the fight took place. For Tolani Baj who has been keeping a low profile in the house, Nigerians were shocked as she gave it to Ka3na ‘hot hot’. Some unprintable words were said between both Ka3na and Tolani Baj. While the two ladies had a heated argument, other Big Brother housemates watched on. Watch the clips below! The Chicks’ ‘Gaslighter’ Ignites at No. 1 on Top Country Albums Chart

The trio makes a record arrival among groups historically. The Chicks (formerly Dixie Chicks) score their fifth No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top Country Albums chart with Gaslighter. The act’s first album of new material in 14 years blasts in atop the Aug. 1-dated survey with 84,000 equivalent album units earned in its first week, ending July 23, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. [embedded content] With the launch, the trio of lead singer Natalie Maines and multi-instrumentalists Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire claims sole ownership of the most Top Country Albums No. 1s among female duos or groups, passing The Judds’ total of four. On the all-genre Billboard 200, Gaslighter bounds in at No. 3, marking The Chicks’ fifth top 10. The 12-song set, which the group produced w...

2020 Emmy Nominations: See the Full List

The nominations for the 2020 Emmy Awards were announced on Tuesday morning (July 28) by former Saturday Night Live star Leslie Jones, who was joined, virtually, by Laverne Cox, Josh Gad and Tatiana Maslany. This year’s ceremony will be reimagined as a socially distanced event due to the production restrictions imposed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. HBO’s dystopian graphic novel adaptation Watchmen topped all nominees with 26 nods, followed by Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (20), Netflix’s Ozark (18) and HBO’s Succession (18), while Disney+ got into the game in its first year with the Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian tying Saturday Night Live and the final season of Schitt’s Creek with 15 each. Why Rod Wave Might Be Writing Movie Scripts One Day

Before the age of 21, Rod Wave has become hip-hop’s quintessential rags to riches story. Since his Interscope debut with 2019’s Ghetto Gospel, the St. Petersburg, Florida native has buried the competition with his icy street bangers and frosty melodies. With two Billboard 200 top ten albums within a five-month span, including last April’s No. 2 debut Pray 4 Love, Wave’s climb to rap’s summit has been a sight to see.  With a dozen Hot 100 records in his arsenal, most notably his latest hit “Rags2Riches,” Wave’s candor and shrewd ability to tug at listeners’ heartstrings makes him a top candidate for rap’s rookie of the year in 2020 — although he’s lucky to still be here. Wave, born Rodarius Marcell Green, nearly had his life curtailed after being involved in a near-fatal ca...

Pearl Jam, R.E.M. and More Demand Clearance for Campaign Songs

Pearl Jam, R.E.M. Sia, Lorde and more have joined forces with the Artists Rights Alliance to demand that the political parties “establish clear policies requiring campaigns to seek the consent of featured recording artists, songwriters, and copyright owners before publicly using their music in a political or campaign setting,” the Artist Rights Alliance announce in a statement. The letter also points out “the fundamental right of music creators to decide who can use their music and on what terms.” And if they do not comply, the political parties risk legal action. The ARA furthered their point in the following statement: “We’ve seen so many artists and estates dragged into politics against their will and forced to take aggressive action to prohibit the use of their music – usually songs th...

Korn and Yelawolf Cover ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia’

Raise your hand if you expected Korn and Yelawolf to collaborate. Now, raise your hand if you ever thought you’d see the two join forces to cover a Charlie Daniels song. Yep, not many — if any — thought that would happen. But it did. The Jonathan Davis-led band enlisted the rapper to tackle the recently departed Daniels’ “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” The metal version of the song, released Tuesday, is available on Bandcamp. All of the proceeds will go to Awakening Youth, a charity that helps young people who have lost a parent realize positive change in their lives. “We’re very excited to bring you our cover of the late, great Charlie Daniels’ infamous track, ‘The Devil Went Down To Georgia,’” reads a statement on Korn’s Bandcamp. “Charlie left a musical legacy that goe...

The Masked Bands’ Survival Guide to Your New Masked Life

Today, there are two types of people walking around: Those willing to wear a mask to help prevent the spread of a deadly virus in COVID-19, and the unconscionable, who, either citing their natural-born freedoms or their political fealties, refuse to don any sort of a face covering, even during a pandemic that — let’s face it — was preventable. Yet, there’s still widespread mask resistance all across America — something that boggles the minds of masked musicians everywhere. When you consider there are several bands whose members spend hours on sun-drenched stages, performing in stifling latex, suppressing silicone, repressive nylon, and restricting mesh masks that typically envelop their entire faces, sporting a soft surgical mask for a few lousy minutes while pumping gas or getting groceri...

Atom Goren (of Atom and His Package) on the Washington Football Team

[Editor’s note: In 2001, Atom and His Package released the song “If You Own the Washington Redskins, You’re a Cock,” protesting the use of Native American mascots as a sports team’s nickname. Finally, after years of protests and swift pressure following the Black Lives Matter protests, the Washington professional football team changed its nickname earlier this month. Of course, we had to reach out to Atom Goren and to get his take on something that he says should have happened decades ago] I will happily accept most news — even if decades late — of progress for causes on the opposite end of the behavior spectrum from purposely being a jerk, so the name change of the football team from the Washington D.C.-ish area is welcome.  I’m not sure I have a perspective that adds anything to the...
