A week after attempting to write a SABATON-style song in 10 minutes, DRAGONFORCE guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman returned to Twitch to take a stab at composing a song in the vein of Scottish pirate metallers ALESTORM. Video of the resulting session has since been uploaded to DRAGONFORCE‘s official YouTube channel and can be seen below. Li recently told Nuclear Blast‘s “Saturday Night Lockdown” that he and his bandmates have stayed creative during the coronavirus downtime. “We played our first show [in support of our eighth full-length LP, ‘Extreme Power Metal’] on the album release date [last September], which was on TwitchCon, which is a Twitch convention,” he said. “And we got that streamed to, like, 1.7 million people. Everything...
As we wait for the release of their first album in nearly three decades, Made Of Rain, the Psychedelic Furs have shared a new video for their track, “Come All Ye Faithful.” “‘Come All Ye Faithful’ is a song about looking for redemption in faith and riches, questioning if either is of any true value and whether redemption is ultimately necessary at all,” lead singer Richard Butler told Rolling Stone. Directed by Imogen Harrison, the monochrome visual shows a woman who’s walking through the woods and fields, on the search for something. And by the end, she’s come to a revelation. “It has been a total pleasure to work with a band of such acclaimed success and experience and Richard has been completely trusting in my ideas from the very beginning and collaborating with him to create visuals fo...
Source: WENN/Avalon / WENN Kanye West is spiraling. Reportedly, the man who seems to be in the midst of a manic episode of his bipolar disorder is refusing to see his own wife, Kim Kardashian. According to TMZ, Yeezy has been curving wifey. Sources close to the couple tell TMZ … there’s been very little communication between husband and wife since he jetted off for his South Carolina rally last weekend, and zero face time. We’re told Kim has made attempts to talk to Kanye about his mental state … but he’s not receptive. Our sources say she’s twice suggested flying to their ranch where Ye’s been staying to help him out, but he’s shot her down both times. This is where we have to point to the jig. What wife do you know would not jet to her husband’s side if he is in mental duress, even if sa...

Even though we’re being encouraged not to be so close to each other these days due to the pandemic, the Flaming Lips’ latest video for “You N’ Me Selling Weed” completely breaks that idea of personal space. Filmed during quarantine in Oklahoma, the video shows singer Wayne Coyne in the backseat of a car. But the camera really gets in there, and most of the video features clear and blurry shots of Coyne’s face. The song delves into the lives of a couple where one is a drug dealer and the other works in a slaughterhouse. Despite their rough situation, there’s a glimmer of hope when Coyne sings, “We’re the king and queen / Dope dealing celebrities in our dreams / Dreaming that one day we’ll get out of this scene / To the magic trees.” “You N’ Me Sellin’ Weed” is the latest single off the Lips...
San Francisco punk band Culture Abuse have broken up in light of singer David Kelling admitting to sexual misconduct with an underaged girl. In a statement on Instagram, the other members of Culture Abuse emphasized that “the victim is our first priority.” Before sharing the anonymous individual’s full account of Kelling’s actions, with her consent, the band noted, “However we do not want [our breakup] to be the focus of this story, as survivors come forward, we commend their bravery and absolutely need to respect and listen to them. We are well aware that this does not fix the pain caused but we are hoping it’s a first step. There are no excuses for this behavior and it cannot be allowed.” They went on to say they would disassociate from Kelling, but urged him to “seek therapy to unlearn ...
The Lowdown: Old Flowers, Courtney Marie Andrews’ fifth full-length LP, is an album about heartbreak and growth. After a nine-year relationship that began at the tender age of nineteen, Andrews realized it was time for her to move on and grow on her own. In her own words, “Anytime I felt like myself, I was alone and wandering, and I knew that was a sign that it was time for change.” This is a tale as old as time for many, when you realize the love you share with someone cannot grow anymore. As Andrews puts it herself in the title track, “You can’t water old flowers,” meaning, you can’t force something to grow that’s already dead. Andrews understood it was time to take the reins of her life herself, as scary as that would be, and she does this with as much grace as possible on her new album...
Next week, jazz drummer and producer Makaya McCraven will release a new album called Universal Beings E&F Sides. A companion piece to his widely acclaimed Universal Beings record from 2018, this upcoming collection features 14 “new pieces of organic beat music” that were cut from those original studio sessions. Earlier this month brought lead single “Mak Attack”, which saw McCraven adroitly “attacking” his kit like the percussion virtuoso that he is. Today, the Chicago native returns with another rattling offering in “Beat Science”. As indicated by its title, here he experiments with a range of thumps and thuds, some wispy and casual, others pointed and moving at breakneck speed. To coincide with the new song, McCraven is also sharing “Do It Live”, another video installment from his on...
Last time we spoke to Jenny Lewis about Rilo Kiley’s 20th anniversary, she seemed a bit shocked at how much time had passed. Now, we’re feeling the same way. That’s because today, the beloved emo-goes-indie pop group have announced they’re reissuing Rilo Kiley, their self-titled debut album from 1999, on October 2nd via Little Record Company. Rilo Kiley originally formed back in 1998 in Los Angeles as a four piece featuring Lewis, Blake Sennett, Pierre de Reeder, and Dave Rock. After writing a handful of original songs and rehearsing regularly, they booked their first show at the Silverlake venue Spaceland. As it turns out, comedian Dave Foley was in the crowd that night and fell head over heels for their music — so much so that he wound up funding the band’s very first demo session and, i...
There isn’t anything quite like hearing a radio hit from one’s youth revamped as the theme to a hit TV show. Yet that is what so many folks of a certain age have collectively experienced upon binge-watching three seasons (and hopefully counting) of the acclaimed Netflix series G.L.O.W. And no better tune has inspired Americans to forgo the “Skip Intro” button than Scandal’s anthemic 1986 hit “The Warrior,” whose infectious riff immediately gets you into the mood for some meta-comedy about a meta-sport. “Yeah, it’s always fun singing that line,” laughs singer Patty Smyth about the most well-known single from her time as the powerhouse frontwoman of the New York-based hard rock group who first hit the scene with their 1982 single “Goodbye to You,” the natural bridge between Blondie and ...
