All in all there are thirty-one remixes in total, which impressively is on par with the scale of van Buuren’s Relax album released back in May 2020. Overwatch is bringing together a team of creators to launch their “Summer of Music” event. The Blizzard Entertainment-developed video game title recently released their new original soundtrack Overwatch: Cities & Countries. They’re now releasing a handful of new reworks in what’s shaping up to be one of the most unique remix packs of the summer. Setting the bar high is Berywam, 2018 beatbox world champions, who have unleashed an impressive beatbox remix of the Overwatch theme with rhythmic ebbs and flows that seemingly defy reality. The French quartet has a knack for adapting their voices to fit a variety of instrumental functions. Arguably, this was best on display during their medley performance on America’s Got Talent in 2019, which included ...
Jasmine Thompson didn’t originally imagine her song would wind up in Zedd‘s hands, but as she knows well, life has a funny way of playing out. In an interview with Kansas City CBS affiliate KCTV5, the London-based singer-songwriter recalled that her producers sent an early demo of “Funny” to Zedd without her knowledge. Thompson said she initially had a vision that the melancholic single would be piano-driven, but once Zedd sent back his version, it instantly won her over. “The idea of collaborating with him was life-changing,” she said. The surprising turn of events sparked bigger plans. The two had originally intended to meet in person in Los Angeles to work on the song’s music video. However, considering the onset of COVID-19, Thompson ...
LACUNA COIL has announced “Black Anima: Live From The Apocalypse”, an exclusive streaming show featuring a full performance of “Black Anima” for the very first time, including songs never performed live, plus special backstage/off-camera moments and more. The band, stationed in its hometown of Milan, Italy since February 2020, is fired up for its first show since the COVID-19 lockdown forced the entire music business, and the world, to stop. “When the world changed, we were in the early stages of touring our new album, ‘Black Anima’,” LACUNA COIL said. “Months have gone by and the desire to get back up on stage and play our music for you has just grown bigger and bigger. While the pandemic won’t allow us to travel to your hometown...
In a new interview with Eric Black Was Here‘s “Rockcast”, KORN drummer Ray Luzier poke about how he has been dealing with the coronavirus crisis. He said (see video below): “It is what it is, man. What can we do? It’s a worldwide pandemic. It’s crazy, it’s nuts. No one predicted this — well, some people did, but that’s a whole other topic. “It’s funny, ’cause me and my wife always talk about it: ‘Hey, if KORN breaks up tomorrow, do we have enough dough to make it another year or two before you find another gig?’ ‘Cause I’ve lived my whole entire life as a musician, and that’s a giant roller coaster, as most people know. You don’t just hit the jackpot and get this gig and you’re set f...
MESHUGGAH has canceled its plans to reschedule the band’s 2020 festival appearances for next year. Although the Swedish extreme tech-metal pioneers were hoping to play the same festivals in 2021 that ended up being canceled this summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic, scheduling conflicts have forced them to scrap the shows altogether. Earlier today, MESHUGGAH issued the following statement via social media: “As previously communicated our intent was to keep our commitment to all festivals and shows planned for summer 2020, that couldn’t take place due to the Covid-19 pandemic, by re-confirming them for the same dates in summer 2021. Full Force Festival is one of these festivals that has already been re-confirmed and re-announced. However, after seeing some of the other fest...

The veteran rockers in Protomartyr released their fifth album, Ultimate Success Today (Domino), last week — and now they’ve got a brand new music video to go alongside with it. After teasing the album with a few singles, the first post-release video is for the album’s fifth track, “June 21.” With the rollercoaster of an album tackling heavy personal and societal themes, “June 21″ and its video have a firm focus on the topic of nostalgia and looking back on lighter days — or at least some different aspects of them. “[It’s about] nostalgia and regret under the dwindling shade,” said singer, Joe Casey. “For instance, there’s a translated lyric from Alexander Robotnick’s song ‘Problèmes d’Amour’ [‘it’s on ice but it won’t keep’]. A 12-inch remix of that song was so popular in De...
Following recent sexual misconduct accusations against Burger Records and musicians coming forward about their experiences with abuse, Hayley Williams could not longer be silent. Last night (July 20), Williams posted a long note about her feelings toward sexism and misogyny in the industry, highlighting the “collective cause” of protecting “womxn and young folx in the music scene.” “It makes my stomach hurt and my eyes red,” she wrote of the abuse allegations. “It’s so crazy to me how frontwomxn can be such powerful inspiration [sic] to so many young people, who see us as very much ‘in control’ of ourselves and our immediate surroundings when we’re up on a stage.” Williams also pointed out while womxn are “vulnerable,” males are also subject to the same types of abuse. “They are most ...

Digital devices are now the dominant method of listening to music, and the coronavirus seems to be behind the latest growth wave. For the first time since Edison Research began documenting audio consumption with its Share of Ear study in 2014, digital and on-demand platforms owned over half of consumers’ time spent listening during the second quarter of 2020. Listeners accessed music through smartphones, computers, internet-connected TVs and smart speakers during 53% of their listening hours. The other 47% of listening came through more traditional means, such as AM/ FM receivers, SiriusXM devices, CD players, turntables and standard TV. In the previous study, traditional devices still maintained the advantage, amassing 55% of the daily time spent listening. Digital’s rise past...
