The Once-Named “Herd Immunity Fest” Seeks Fans’ Help in Setting Up Festival Grounds

The three-day rock festival previously referred to as “Herd Immunity Fest” is scheduled to kick off tomorrow (July 16th) outside the Q&Z Expo Center in Ringle, Wisconsin. With one day to go, organizers are seeking fans to help set up the festival’s site following some rough weather in the area. The Mini Fest, as it is now called, was met with backlash when it was first announced in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic as the “Herd Immunity Fest” last month. The festival’s announcement came as health experts and promoters have predicted concerts and festivals wouldn’t return in earnest until 2021. Nonpoint, one of the headliners, immediately dropped off the bill upon hearing the festival’s name. And there have been numerous lineup changes since the initial announcement. Of the initia...

Julia Stone Returns With New Single “Break”, Produced By St. Vincent: Stream

Julia Stone (photo by Brooke Ashley Baron) and St. Vincent (photo by Lior Phillips) Julia Stone is back with her first solo single in eight years, “Break”. The track was produced by none other than St. Vincent and features additional contributions from Bryce Dessner of The National and Warpaint member Stella Mozgawa. On “Break”, Stone layers her folk stylings with more robust instrumentation like synthesizers and brass, citing David Byrne as inspiration. According to the Australian singer-songwriter, this exciting shift in musical direction is tied to the adrenaline rush of a new romance. “It’s when you first meet somebody, and you have that connection, and your chemicals go crazy,” Stone says of the single, which was also co-produced by Sufjan Stevens associate Thomas Bartlett. “It’s abou...

R.I.P. Emitt Rhodes, Power Pop Icon and Home Recording Pioneer Dies at 70

Emitt Rhodes, power pop icon and home recording pioneer, has died at the age of 70. News of Rhodes’ death was confirmed by Omnivore Recordings, which released his final album in 2016. He is said to have passed away in his sleep, but the cause of death was not immediately clear. Rhodes got his start as a drummer in garage rock band The Palace Guard (which also briefly featured My Three Sons actor Don Grady). However, he had his first breakthrough with his next band, The Merry-Go-Round, which had minor hits with the psychedelic “Live” and the melancholic ballad “You’re a Very Lovely Woman”. It is most likely for his 1970 self-titled solo album, though, that he will best be remembered. The album, released on Dunhill Records, was recorded on an Ampex 4-track recorder in his pare...

Rita Wilson Says COVID-19 Face Mask Debate ‘Doesn’t Make Sense’

Rita Wilson says wearing a face mask during a pandemic should be as normal and unquestioned as brushing one’s teeth twice a day. “Why wouldn’t you wear a mask if it’s good for your health?” she asks. “It doesn’t make sense.” Wilson, who spoke to Gayle King on Friday’s CBS This Morning, was one of the first Hollywood figures diagnosed with COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, back in March, along with husband Tom Hanks. In April, the actress chatted with King and revealed her symptoms including extreme fatigue, body aches, irritability, discomfort, loss of taste and smell, and a 102-degree fever. After recovering from the disease, both Hanks and Wilson have been vocal about the importance of following CDC measures, such...

London Ravers Clash with Police After Underground Rave Shut Down

Over the weekend, riot police were sent to shut down an illicit underground rave at a community center in London. When officers arrived on the scene, a clash with attendees ensued, leading to multiple arrests and injuries. In a statement obtained by NME, Lucy D’Orsi, the Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service, condemned the underground event and stated that there will be increased police presence to prevent future gatherings. “The violence and disorder they encountered is totally unacceptable, as is the fear I am sure this generates amongst the local community, who called the police for help,” she said. “In this case the irresponsible actions of the organiser led to injuries to our officers. Under no circumstance will policing accept this, partic...

WHITESNAKE’s DAVID COVERDALE Blasts ‘Covidiots’ Who Refuse To Wear Masks: ‘This Is Not Politics; This Is Health’

WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale spoke to Marci Wiser of the 95.5 KLOS radio station about how he is dealing with the coronavirus crisis and what the touring circuit might look like post-pandemic. “I was hoping to be able to do my farewell tour, my gratitude tour at 69,” the 68-year-old said. “What better age for the singer of WHITESNAKE to retire than 69? I’m already designing the t-shirts. “As long as we have covidiots refusing to wear a mask for political reasons or freedom of expression, we’re never gonna get out there. “The only time I’ve seen real community in this country that’s adopted me, this beautiful United States Of America, was after tragedy,” the British-born rocker continued. “9/11, everybody was just nice...

COVID-19 Denier Chuck Woolery Reveals His Son Has Tested Positive for Virus

Earlier this week, Donald Trump shared a tweet from former Love Connection host Chuck Woolery which accused the “CDC, media, Democrats, and doctors” of “lying” about the coronavirus. “The most outrageous lies are the ones about COVID-19. Everyone is lying,” Wooley commented. “I think it’s all about the election and keeping the economy from coming back, which is about the election. I am sick of it.” Just 24 hours later, however, Woolery was forced to reckon with those remarks after his own son came down with coronavirus. “My son tested positive for the virus, and I feel for those suffering and especially for those who have lost loved ones,” Woolery wrote in a follow-up tweet posted Monday evening. A short-time later, Woolery disabled his Twitter account altogether. In an interview on T...
