Song of the Week breaks down and talks about the song we just can’t get out of our head each week. Find these songs and more on our Spotify New Sounds playlist. Let’s play some catchup. 2020 began with all the musical anticipation of a new year and fresh decade. Then, when COVID-19 initially struck the States, music became an afterthought as we watched major albums delayed and highly anticipated tours postponed into oblivion. Then music became a lifeline as we huddled indoors and waited for the world to end. We listened to “quarantine albums,” found comfort in online fireside or bathtub sessions, and began marking Instagram shows on our calendars as if they were actual concerts. Then, the George Floyd murder shook the world, and we needed music to cry to, to scream to, and, most importantl...

Kygo and Tina Turner Release Rework of Legendary Single “What’s Love Got to Do with It”

Earlier this week, Kygo and Tina Turner teased a remix of the latter’s Grammy Award-winning track “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” and the highly-anticipated rework is finally here. Kygo and Tina Turner’s remake of “What’s Love Got to Do with It” is immaculate. The Norwegian producer has done an excellent job at retaining key elements from the original while tastefully transforming it into his own sound—much like he did with his remix of Whitney Houston‘s “Higher Love.” Turner’s pristine vocals remain untouched while Kygo adds in his classic tropical house flair, including subdued kicks, light string elements, and striking piano chords. In a press statement, Kygo said that the track is one of his “...

The track delivers a powerful mantra, a meditation of an uncertain universe that we may be in tune with but is not in tune with us, capturing a heavy and dark melancholic sound and lyrics mixed with rock riffs and mid-tempo bass. “As the world was locking down and musicians were figuring out a new normal, we were fortunately and unfortunately doing what this band has always had to do to continue creating,” Hajjar said. “This song was started with a jam and then cut up and edited to be f...
