GONE IS GONE, the project featuring MASTODON‘s Troy Sanders, AT THE DRIVE-IN‘s Tony Hajjar, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE‘s Troy Van Leeuwen and guitarist-keyboardist Mike Zarin, has released the official music video for a new song called “Everything Is Wonderfall”. The track delivers a powerful mantra, a meditation of an uncertain universe that we may be in tune with but is not in tune with us, capturing a heavy and dark melancholic sound and lyrics mixed with rock riffs and mid-tempo bass. “As the world was locking down and musicians were figuring out a new normal, we were fortunately and unfortunately doing what this band has always had to do to continue creating,” Hajjar said. “This song was started with a jam and then cut up and edited to be f...
A few years ago I accidentally took a break from listening to music. It wasn’t deliberate, but I found myself listening to NPR in the car and books on tape while I exercising. For some reason, listening to music started to annoy me. I found myself analyzing and critiquing instead of enjoying and escaping. For me, maybe the best thing to come out of the COVID-19 craziness is the rediscovery of the joy of listening to music. To get out of the house, I started going on long bike rides through the country and listening to playlists without thinking. Now I’m constantly digging for new music again and feeling inspired instead of annoyed. So, here’s a playlist of some songs that don’t annoy me… “Find A Way” – Duckwrth, Alex Mali, Radio AleeI’m not sure what to say about this song besides I love e...

The Domino-released collection follows 2017’s Relatives in Descent and was co-produced by Protomartyr themselves alongside David Tolomei (Dirty Projectors, Beach House). Sessions took place at Dreamland Recording Studios, situated in a 19th century church in upstate New York, and featured guest contributors in legendary jazz alto saxophonist Jemeel Moondoc and vocalist Nandi Rose, aka Half Waif. Izaak Mills (bass clarinet, sax, flute) and cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm also joined the band in the studio. In a sta...
When the pandemic hit and lockdown was initiated, Stephen Colbert was forced to abandon the iconic Ed Sullivan Theater. His last guests scheduled to appear at the New York City landmark were the then-named Dixie Chicks, but they were understandably bumped in favor of CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Sanjay Gupta. On Thursday night, the group now called just The Chicks were finally able to make up that missed appearance on The Late Show with a remote performance of “March March” and a discussion about their new moniker. Asked why they’d chosen now to drop “Dixie” from their name, lead singer Natalie Maines said a change was always in the works. “Well, it’s because of everything that’s going on in the world. It was about time; we’ve wanted to change it for a long time, actually,” she explaine...
At the start of the week, Yo La Tengo popped up on Bandcamp with an instrumental track called “James and Ira demonstrate mysticism and some confusion holds”. A new jam appeared each following day, and it’s all culminated today with the reveal of a full five-song EP called We Have Amnesia Sometimes. Stream it below. The collection stems from a series of sessions that saw the trio “playing formlessly” in late April and early May. Yo La Tengo had escaped to their Hoboken, New Jersey rehearsal space to “push away the outside world” while safely social distancing. As Ira Kaplan explains in a press release, “In late April, with the outside world weighing on everybody, we determined that the three of us could assemble in Hoboken without disobeying the rules laid out by Governor Murphy, and resume...

From son jarocho to mariachi, Los Cenzontles Cultural Arts Academy in the Bay Area and the Mariachi Heritage Foundation in Chicago are preserving and keeping traditional Mexican sounds alive through music programs and young musicians. The importance of cultural preservation, specifically sounds that aren’t considered mainstream or don’t get much radio airplay, is what motivated Eugene Rodriguez (founder of Los Cenzontles) and Cesar Maldonado (Mariachi Heritage Foundation) to launch their music programs. “It was a way of connecting my Mexican side to my American side,” says Rodriguez, a musician and educator. “And it just became so natural for me to want to keep this music alive and to see younger people engaged and excited about, makes me happy.” ...
Social distancing will be required as the country enters phase 4 of a five-stage reopening plan. Audiences who adhere to social distancing can return to indoor theaters, music and performance venues beginning Aug. 1, U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced Friday (July 17). The policy represents the fourth phase in the country’s five-stage reopening plan for live events. In the lead up to the August start date, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport will conduct pilots of performances with socially-distanced audiences — including the London Symphony Orchestra at St. Luke’s London — using the findings there to inform final guidance for venues. The announcement notes that “audiences, performers and venues will be expected to maintain social distancing at all tim...

From house t...
Fast rising afro-fusion artiste, Shun Breezy premieres a brand new single, “Oju Aja” as he begins his music journey under Sony Music West Africa. Shun B’s musical epiphany dates back to his childhood years when he enjoyed the melodies of high life and juju music legends (Shina Peters, Yinka Ayefele) and expressed himself as a drummer boy in the Celestial church. He attributes this period to having largely influenced his chosen style of music which he describes as Afro life. The new single “Oju Aja” embodies this concept as it alludes to his stardom ambition while asserting the hopes of a finer life for every young and dreaming hustler. The potential hit record was produced by Bigmousebeat. Listen, Download & Enjoy Below!!! https://naijatunez.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Shun-Breezy-–...
