Ex-STATIC-X Guitarist TRIPP EISEN To EDSEL DOPE: ‘You Hired DONALD TRUMP’s Law Firm To Ensure That You Can Steal My Songs’

Ex-STATIC-X guitarist Tripp Eisen has responded to DOPE leader Edsel Dope over accusations that Tripp‘s former bandmates took undeserved songwriting credit on some of the tracks on the group’s just-released “Project Regeneration Vol. 1” album. The first of two volumes, “Project Regeneration Vol. 1” features 12 brand new tracks, containing many of the final vocal performances and musical compositions of late STATIC-X frontman Wayne Static, along with the original “Wisconsin Death Trip” lineup of bassist Tony Campos, drummer Ken Jay, and guitarist Koichi Fukuda. Both volumes are being worked on by longtime STATIC-X producer Ulrich Wild. During the recording sessions for “Project Regeneration”, STATIC-X claimed in a press release tha...

The Russo Brothers Cast Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans in The Gray Man for Netflix

Marvel Cinematic Universe directors The Russo Brothers are bringing their talents back to the real world. And they aren’t doing it cheaply: The Hollywood duo has teamed up with Netflix for the platform’s most expensive film, The Gray Man. What’s more, the brothers have brought on both Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans for the starring roles. As Deadline reports, Joe Russo will provide a script based on Mark Greaney’s 2009 novel of the same name. The Gray Man focuses on ex-CIA operative Court Gentry, a.k.a. “The Gray Man” (Gosling), and his efforts to elude capture by a former co-worker Lloyd Hansen (Evans). Netflix is providing the Avengers directors with a substantial production budget of approximately $200 million dollars (!). The company hopes that the action-packed Gray Man will s...

Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine to Release Rust in Peace Book with Foreword by Slash

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has set a September 8th release date for his upcoming book, Rust in Peace: The Inside Story of the Megadeth Masterpiece. The 208-page tome features a foreword by Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash. This isn’t Mustaine’s first foray into the world of literature. He released his excellent autobiography, Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir, back in 2010. For his new book, Mustaine centers on the classic 1990 LP, which many consider Megadeth’s finest artistic achievement. Based on the publisher’s synopsis, the book gives thorough first-hand insight into the making of the album, including “the process of hiring the band and supporting cast, of trying to handle the ensuing success, and ultimately the pressure of fame and fortune-which caused the band to finally break-u...

Nerds! The 30 Rock Reunion Special Is Now Streaming in Full: Watch

Attention 30 Rock lovers — and sorry if that word bums you out unless it’s between the words ‘meat’ and ‘pizza’ — but the 30 Rock reunion special has finally arrived. If you want to go to there, you can watch it now on the NBC website. Unlike other recent reunions, such as Parks and Recreation’s fundraiser for Feeding America, 30 Rock: A One-Time Special is in service of NBC’s corporate overlords. Granted, as Jack Donaghy once said, every television show exists “to fill time between car commercials.” But here, the products being sold are NBC and its new streaming service Peacock, and half the commercials are seamlessly integrated into the reunion itself. But the special’s writers Tina Fey and Robert Carlock are also mocking their own willingness to shill, so it fits into the trad...

Los Angeles Venue The Satellite to Discontinue Live Music Events

One of the biggest bummers of COVID-19, outside of the obvious, is that a number of music venues are on the verge of closing permanently. That moment, however, is now. Los Angeles’ The Satellite announced on Friday morning that it will be removing its stage and no longer be hosting live music and will become a restaurant. The Silver Lake music venue is one of the more intimate rooms in the city and has hosted shows from the likes of Foo Fighters, Silversun Pickups, Freddie Gibbs, Jenny Lewis, Foster the People, Eels, Jewel, Daniel Johnston, Local Natives and Lady Gaga among many, many more. “To all of the Satellite fans out there, I am sorry to say that we will no longer be doing live shows or dance parties. We would like to thank you for all the support you have shown us ov...

Retired J-Pop Producer Tetsuya Komuro Returns with Nogizaka46’s ‘Route 246′

J-pop girl group Nogizaka46 is set to release a new single composed by veteran music producer Tetsuya Komuro, called “Route 246.” After announcing his retirement from music in early 2018, the legendary hitmaker was persuaded to emerge from hibernation by longtime friend and collaborator Yasushi Akimoto, Nogizaka46’s producer and lyricist for most of their songs, including this one. “He retired once, but as we met for dinner from time to time, I learned that his passion for music hadn’t waned,” Akimoto shared. “I’m sure he has his reasons, but I wanted Tetsuya Komuro to somehow have another opportunity to become involved in music.” Komuro explained the concept for “Route 246” is friendship: “I created this song with the...

Billboard has been traveling back through time by ranking the best boy band projects from the past 30 years. But what’s your favorite group of all time? Boyz II Men has been a historic mainstay on the Billboard Hot 100, notching three of the longest-leading No. 1 hits: “One Sweet Day” with Mariah Carey in 1995 for 16 weeks, “I’ll Make Love to You” in 1994 for 14 weeks, and “End of the Road” in 1992 for 13 weeks. 20 Questions With Inner City: Kevin Saunderson, His Son Dantiez & Steffanie Christi’an Release the Group’s First Album in 30 Years

Nearly 30 years after the release of their last album, Inner City is back. The seminal dance music project began in the late ’80s, when Detroit techno pioneer Kevin Saunderson linked with singer Paris Grey for the 1989 debut Inner City album, Paradise. That LP generated a pair of all-time genre classics in “Good Life” and “Big Fun,” with the latter track hitting No. 1 on Billboard‘s Dance/Club Songs chart in the fall of 1988. The duo then followed up with 1990’s Fire and 1992’s Praise before letting the globally successful project rest for the next 28 years. Now featuring Saunderson, his son Dantiez (an accomplished producer in his own right) and vocalist Steffanie Christi’an, Inner City has today (July 17) released We All Move Toge...

Drake Is A ‘Popstar,’ Not A Doctor, On Flexing New Khaled Collab

“I’m a pop star, but this shit ain’t bubblegum / You would probably think my manager is Scooter Braun.” That’s what Drake raps a minute into “Popstar,” an airy new collab with DJ Khaled that dropped on Friday (July 17). It was just one of Aubrey’s several references to, you guessed it, pop stars — “Look, Ariana, Selena, my Visa / It can take as many charges as it needs to” and “Shit don’t even usually get this big without a Bieber face” — as well as one of two songs the pair released simultaneously. The more melodic “Greece,” meanwhile, finds Drake accessing a much higher vocal register than he’s been showcasing lately. It’s a breezy piece of escapist trap&B that finds the, ahem, pop s...

Beabadoobee’s Dreamy Statement, Monsta X’s Three-Minute Escape, And More Songs We Love

From burning down houses to cheating on dishonest lovers, country singer Miranda Lambert has never strayed away from exploring the darker spectrum of emotions in her music, as opposed to the idyllic, beer-battered, truck-loving fare that usually takes up space in the genre. It’s significant, then, that her latest single “Bluebird” is inherently hopeful, while still combatting themes that ring universal. Partially inspired by a Charles Bukowski poem, it’s a self-love anthem wrapped in self-assured zingers like “If the house just keeps on winning / I got a wildcard up my sleeve” and “If love keeps giving me lemons / I’ll just mix ’em in my drink.” The idea of feeling caged but taking the good with the bad feels especially timely, as we all struggle to find ways to channel the bluebird in our...
