Live Nation UK Cancels Drive-In Concert Tour Less Than Three Weeks After Announcement

Keep calm and carry on, live music fans. The concert industry will come back soon—just not as soon as we’d hoped.  Live Nation UK has announced the cancellation of its drive-in concert series for the hit British musical Six. It was scheduled for 12 dates in different cities, taking place at venues such as airports and race courses with a capacity of 300 cars per show. Since some shows sold out since the tour’s June 19th announcement, Live Nation said ticket-holders will receive full refunds. Scheduled performers included The Streets, Ash, Sigala, Gary Numan, Skindred, Brand New Heavies, and Dizzee Rascal. The musical’s producer, Kenny Wax, said the tour had “been designed not as a money-maker but to put dozens of freelancers back to work,” ...

Boris Unveil Dystopian Music Video for “-鏡 -Zerkalo-” from Latest Album NO: Stream

Japanese metal auteurs Boris have offered up the dystopian music video for “-鏡 -Zerkalo-”, the third single from the band’s latest album, NO. Much like the tracks cascading doom chords and passionate vocal rasps, the video for “-鏡 -Zerkalo-” is epic and transportive. Slow pans depict the barren rocks and surging oceans of a future, post-nuclear landscape. After traversing what looks like an alien planet, we’re taken to a dystopian cityscape. Created by CG artist Yoshiki Shimahara and directors fangsanalsatan and Ryuta Murayama, the video is like Philip Glass’ Koyaanisqatsi by way of Dark Souls. In a press release, Boris gave only this brief cryptic comment on the song and video, revealing that it’s not an alien planet, but our own: “The song as a mirror that reflects this world.” The video...

IK Multimedia Unveils New AXE I/O SOLO Guitar Interface and T-RackS Space Delay Plug-In

IK Multimedia has rolled out a pair of products that will appeal to guitarists looking to cut new tracks in their home studio. The AXE I/O SOLO allows you to interface your electric guitar with your computer or recording device, and the T-RackS Space Delay plug-in offers new production effects. The latest in IK’s AXE I/O line, the SOLO is true to its name — perfect for plugging in your guitar and getting results fast. It can power and ampilfy both a line or XLR input via IK’s Class A PURE mic preamp. In layman’s terms, it means you can use it as a pre-amp for guitars and other instruments, as well as XLR microphones. But as a guitarists’ tool, the SOLO excels, providing what IK calls “tone shaping.” This allows for a single instrument to emit a wide range of tones, which can be dialed...

Talent Agent and Lollapalooza Co-Founder Marc Geiger Predicts Concerts Won’t Return Until 2022

One of the concert’s industry’s top executives believes that live music won’t fully return until 2022. Marc Geiger, the former global head of music at talent agency William Morris Entertainment and co-founder of Lollapalooza, made the startling prediction during an appearance on The Bob Lefsetz Podcast. Asked when he thought concerts would return in the era of COVID, Geiger responded, “In my humble opinion, it’s going to be 2022.” In Geiger’s estimation, “It’s going to take that long before, what I call, the germaphobic economy is slowly killed off and replaced by the claustrophobia economy — that’s when people want to get out and go out to dinner and have their lives, go to festivals and shows.” “It’s my instinct, that’s going to take a while because super-spreader events — spor...

SEBASTIAN BACH To CHRIS JERICHO: ‘Don’t Pretend That You Do What I Do’

Sebastian Bach has continued his Twitter tirade against Chris Jericho over allegations that the FOZZY frontman uses pre-recorded vocal tracks during live performances. Just hours after Bach initially accused Jericho of “miming to a tape” at FOZZY concerts, the former SKID ROW vocalist defended his position, firing back against several Jericho supporters over their claim that the wrestler-turned-singer performs all of his vocals live. After one Twitter user took issue with Bach‘s assertion that Jericho “does not do what I do,” Sebastian doubled down, writing: ” Yes sing live. He does not do what I do. And wrestling is fake I know it makes you mad” Bach, who has been outspoken about rock bands using pre-recorded backing tracks during live shows, also...

Lollapalooza Co-Founder Says Don’t Expect Live Music Until 2022

If you thought the wait for live music was tough enough as is, it may get a lot worse. Former WME global head of music/Lollapalooza co-founder Marc Geiger said on the Bob Lefsetz Podcast that he doesn’t expect live music to resume “late ’21, more likely ’22” when the host asked him the timeframe for when concerts would resume, adding that “the whole thing is a shit show.” Geiger says that “the next six months may be more painful than the last six months, and maybe the next six months after that are even more so,” and adds that if he’s right about the timeframe, there will be “massive amount of bloodshed, bankruptcies, and won’t be good for the majority of the industry.” His reasoning is that there are “probably 20″ hurdles that need to be solved before it resumes, include the vir...

City of Oakland Settles Ghost Ship Fire Civil Suit for Nearly $33 Million

The City of Oakland announced in a release that it has settled with the families of the 2016 Ghost Ship fire that left 36 people dead. The suit was brought on behalf of 32 of the 36 families of the people who died in the fire. Of the $32.7 million that will be paid out, $9.2 will go to plaintiff and Ghost Ship fire survivor Sam Maxwell, who is battling severe lifelong injuries and major medical expenses. The settlement brings to a close the civil suit, and the city continues to assert, per the settlement, that it is not liable for the loss of life. Instead, the release says, the city settled the case because of the cost-benefit analysis. A retrial in the criminal case against Ghost Ship master tenant Derick Almena is set to resume in October. Previously, the criminal case against Alme...

Audio Engineer Kesha Lee in Atlanta, in a Pandemic: ‘I’m Getting to the Place Where I’m Wanting to Create’

Lee was planning to travel for audio engineer work when her car broke down — now, she’s collaborating with a local songwriter on her own music.  Since getting her start through a chance meeting with Gucci Mane, Atlanta-based audio engineer Kesha Lee has worked on chart-toppers like Childish Gambino’s “This Is America” and Migos’ “Bad and Boujee” and is now the go-to audio engineer for rappers including Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert. She spent the past two-and-a-half years working on Uzi’s Eternal Atake album in the artist’s native Philadelphia, before it was released on March 6 — mere weeks before the near-national lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus began. As part of Billboard’s efforts to best cover ...
