Beloved indie pop duo Cults have announced their fourth album, Host. The record is due out later this summer on September 18th via Sinderlyn. According to a press statement, the follow-up to 2017’s Offering is said to be about the sinister dynamics of a parasitic relationship, and the catharsis that comes with achieving freedom and self-reliance. For multi-instrumentalist/singer Madeline Follin, in many ways the new album represents a form of liberation, as it’s her first to serve as primary songwriter. “In the past, I’d never brought my own music to the table because I was just too shy,” Follin explains. This time around, Follin did pitch her material, and once her bandmate Brian Oblivion and their producer Shane Stoneback heard what she had written, they were “floored”. Cults’ entire sou...
AlunaGeorge frontwoman Aluna Francis is finally stepping out of her electropop group’s spotlight. Today, the pop star has announced her debut solo album as Aluna. It’s called Renaissance and it’s due out August 28th via Diplo‘s label Mad Decent. Renaissance spans 14 tracks in total, including Aluna’s debut solo single, “Body Pump”. There’s a handful of guest contributors throughout, including Kaytranada, Princess Nokia, and Jada Kingdom — the latter two of whom appear on Aluna’s new song, “Get Paid”. In a press release, Aluna explained why “Get Paid” takes on an especially personal meaning for her. “It’s an aspirational celebration about black women and women of color getting paid, in opposition of the reality that we are consistently undervalued for our work,” she said. “On the other...
Troye Sivan is back with his second single of the year, “Easy,” which dropped on Wednesday (July 15). Seemingly taking cues from ’80s pop groups like Bronski Beat, the new track from the Australian singer-songwriter is a synth-heavy slow-burn about struggling in love. “I’m still in love and I say that because / I know how it seems between you and me,” he declares on the opening verse. “It hasn’t been easy darlin’.” In an announcement prior to the song’s release, on Monday (July 13), Sivan shared a series of Instagram posts noting that he was “very, very scared to” put such personal work out into the world. The single is also a taste of Sivan’s latest take on the signature synth-pop sound he’s been constructing fo...
On Sunday morning (July 12), rapper Tory Lanez was arrested in Los Angeles after police found a gun in his car. As originally reported by outlets like TMZ, police responded to a domestic disturbance call in the Hollywood Hills after witnesses reported an argument inside an SUV that culminated in gunshots and the vehicle leaving. After police tracked down the SUV, Lanez was reportedly charged with a felony count of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle. Also notable in the situation was the presence of Megan Thee Stallion, who was found in the SUV along with another woman. Meg reportedly had a wounded foot. The event has led to days speculation about her injury, as well as unconfirmed reports of her own arrest — conversations that Meg took to Instagram today (July 15) to clear up. “...
Back in May, SWARM unleashed unbridled terror on the masses with his otherworldly collaboration with Caster, “Blood.” Since then, we’ve had time to recover from the nightmares, but to the delight of horror fans, something new lurks beneath the shadows. Enter “Unbreakable,” SWARM’s latest collaborative haunt, this time with the technical guitar maestro Julian Dae. Known for his guitar covers of some of EDM’s biggest stars, Dae is no stranger to fusing rock chords with electronic melodies. Together, the duo spawned a seamless amalgam of metalcore and psytrance. Wasting no time, Dae opens the tune with some mind-bending strings while SWARM injects pounding drums in such a way that constructs a boisterous battle cry. After the substant...
Those who have experienced the idyllic vibrations of a dance music festival can attest that if EDM is known for anything, it is that the genre is all-inclusive, pervading all areas of globe and opening its arms to all walks of life. Where the beauty of the genre really lies, though, is in its malleability. Through its many sub-genres, electronic dance music is able to be deconstructed, whittled down, and molded into a signature dish all one’s own, with all the accoutrements necessary to start a movement. Such is the case with Amapiano, a South African style of EDM that is taking the music industry by storm. A unique fusion of deep house and jazz, Amapiano emerged in South Africa in 2012 and has steadily risen to become a bona fide juggernaut. Artists such as Moonchild Sane...
Following the news that his electric car and battery behemoth dethroned Toyota as the world’s largest automaker by market value, Tesla boss Elon Musk is planning to open the company’s brand new Giga Factory in Berlin, Germany. Musk posted a 3D render of the factory on Twitter this morning, July 15th, which shows a gargantuan, solar panel-lined roof atop a sprawling facility situated in a picturesque field in Berlin. Musk, who has also dabbled in electronic music production via an original song called “Don’t Doubt Ur Vibe,” also flung the dance music community headfirst into a fever pitch by writing that the rooftop may also moonlight as a “rave space.” Replying to a Twitter user asking for more information about the cave rendering, Musk w...
Earlier this year, TOKiMONSTA dropped yet another successful album with her fourth full-length release, Oasis Nocturno. She’s now back to further develop the project with the announcement of the Come and Go Remixes EP, the first installment of her upcoming Oasis Nocturno remix bundle. Enter Dombresky, who kicks off the project with an upbeat dance rendition of “Come and Go” featuring VanJess. The French producer transforms “Come and Go” from a slow, sultry R&B jam into an infectious 90s house single. By picking up the tempo of the original, he brings the track straight to the dance floor, creating a tune that, while almost unrecognizable from the original, still keeps all the right amount of sensuality TOKiMONSTA and VanJess laid ...
ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante has teamed up with his longtime girlfriend, Carla Harvey (BUTCHER BABIES), TESTAMENT guitarist Alex Skolnick and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES bassist Roberto “Ra” Diaz to record a cover version of KISS‘s 1975 classic “C’mon And Love Me”, filmed they were in quarantine. Benante uploaded a video of the performance to his YouTube channel, writing in an accompanying message: “Here is a song we put together to help remember fallen musician and KISS super-fan David Z. “In an industry not always known for its quality of character, Dave Z shone like a bright light in the darkness. With every musical collaboration, from the arenas to the clubs, Dave forged lasting friendships, valued people over pettiness, never held a grudge an...
EMGtv has uploaded a video of former former MEGADETH guitarist Marty Friedman playing the Japan heritage official theme song. The track was written by Friedman and originally performed by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, with strings arranged by Akira Sasaki, bass played by Kiyoshi, piano by Yukiko Takada, tsuzumi by Shonosuke Okura, and drums by Mitsuru Kurauchi. Friedman said: “It was a thrill and an honor to be asked by the Japanese government to compose this music. “As a foreigner living in Tokyo, I’ll always appreciate the gracious treatment I’ve received here and welcome this kind of responsibility in the future.” In November 2016, Friedman was named an ambassador to Japan heritage for the 2020 Summer Olympics, which was originally scheduled to be held ...

After years of playing hard, partying hard, and leading a self-described “very unhealthy lifestyle,” Phil decided to make a cha...
TRIXTER guitarist Steve Brown spoke to “The Rock N Ragni Show” about how he is dealing with the coronavirus crisis and what the touring circuit might look like post-pandemic. He said (see video below): “Big concerts, nothing is coming back at least a year, if that. And I’m just being honest, because there’s a lot of people who are, like, ‘Oh, we’re doing this.’ Every tour that’s postponed till next year, that’s 50/50 at this point. So the sooner everybody gets used to online stuff and not seeing live shows, the better off you’re gonna be. Because [when] everybody rushes out to do this, the numbers go up and it just fucks everything up. Get out there, don’t be idiots, wear a mask, do whatever the rules are, and we’...
