Crypto Security Company Casa Launches Bitcoin Wallet Backed by The Chainsmokers

In addition to “Grammy Award-winners” and “world’s highest-paid DJs,” The Chainsmokers can now add one more title to their staggering résumé—angel investors. Having taken a short hiatus from music following the conclusion of the rollout of their third studio album, World War Joy, the superstar tandem have taken their time off to explore opportunities outside the music industry. The Chainsmokers’ latest venture pertains to Casa, a Bitcoin security company that received a significant investment from Mantis VC, the duo’s financial investment arm. Following The Chainsmokers’ contribution, Casa officially launched its “Casa Wallet” platform on June 15th, 2020 and took to social media to exult. “Casa ...

England to Experience Influx of Illegal Summer Raves, According to Experts

As local governments continue to navigate the complex process of reopening their respective entertainment industries, experts in England have warned of an influx of illicit and potentially dangerous raves over the summer. Since festival season was effectively stifled by COVID-19, many young people are apparently feeling the effects of quarantine fatigue, a condition characterized by increased desire for social interaction and stimulation after “hitting a wall” from being under lockdown for too long. “The youth of today want to be out and want to be engaged,” said Mike Kill, the chief executive of the Night Time Industries Association, who spoke to The Guardian. “There are a lot of people out there who are socially starved at the moment. And that...

Synthesizer Prince Used to Produce Legendary Album “Purple Rain” Is Up for Sale

As one of the most venerated and subversive artists of all-time, who was instrumental in shaping contemporary music as we know it, legendary musician Prince is a national treasure. The 7-time Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee dabbled in many genres, including funk, soul, and R&B, and a considerable amount of his catalog was rooted in electronic music. Prince’s trailblazing use of synthesizers was unparalleled, leading to innumerable seminal tracks that contributed pioneering developments in synth-pop and new wave music. A Yamaha DX7 synthesizer formerly owned by Prince, which he used to record parts of his fabled 1983 Purple Rain LP, has officially gone up for action. According to official auction site, the “magnificent museum-q...

Phoebe Bridgers: Punisher

Phoebe Bridgers is a master of collapse. The 25-year-old California native writes songs for those moments when things fall apart, when language fails, when you long for so much distance that you need a spaceship to reach it. From there, she is able to find a sense of purpose, or at least make a plan. “When I get back I’ll lay around/Then I’ll get up and lay back down,” goes a couplet in “I Know the End,” the closing track of her stunning new album Punisher. Across the song’s two halves, she tethers the anxiety of leaving home to a vivid depiction of an actual apocalypse: lightning crashes, fire rises, people scream. “Yeah, I guess the end is here,” she deadpans. Her delivery is light, insistent—the casual tone you use to convey passing thoughts to the closest person in the room. While Puni...

Jeff Tweedy Proposes Industry-Wide Donation to Black Lives Matter Organizations

As protests against police brutality following George Floyd’s death continue, Jeff Tweedy has penned an essay calling for the music industry at large to donate to Black Lives Matter. The Wilco frontman shared his thoughts in a lengthy Instagram post today, writing, “Thousands of us committing to a reparations initiative could change our business and the world we live in.” It’s not an exaggeration to say the modern music industry was built almost entirely on Black art. Tweedy begins his essay by acknowledging so and explaining how no single artist could “come close to paying the debt we owe to the Black originators of our modern music.” As such, he calls for an “industry-wide plan” hat allows songwriters and musicians to direct a percentage of their “writer’s share” revenue to organizations...
