Evang. (Dr.) Bola Are – Baba Ku’se

Evangelist Dr. Bola Are is a Nigerian gospel singer and former President of the Gospel Musicians Association of Nigeria. Here is the holy-spirit influenced 1977 LP titled “Baba Ku’se“ by Evangelist. Bola Are. The veteran musician had made it known that the song was ministered to her by God through the Holy Spirit; One day she was heading for work and the spirit ministered this song to her. But sadly as she continued her journey to work, she forgot the song because she hadn’t written it down. Consequently, she was made to fast & pray for 3 Months before the spirit re-ministered the song to her again. It is no doubt that this woman has always been influenced by the spirit, from her many wondrous songs released over the years. The song “Baba Ku’se” is in high praise of God’...

Flume Recruits Grammy-Nominated Jon Hopkins for Hypnotic Remix of “The Difference”

Flume has tapped Grammy Award-nominated producer Jon Hopkins for a mind-bending remix of his standout Toro y Moi collaboration “The Difference.” The track arrived today on Australian imprint and frequent Flume collaborator Future Classic, which continues to be one of the most prolific tastemakers in electronic and indie music. Jon Hopkins’ scintillating take on “The Difference” is one of trailblazing dominance, as the renowned English musician produces a subversive and beautifully idiosyncratic twist on the track. Honing in on his proclivity to produce shimmering synths, which drive the track through its hypnotic arrangement, Hopkins delivers a quirky indietronica masterpiece. The syncopation of his drums is also somethi...

Rome in Silver and Bonnema Flip Classic Gorillaz Tune “Clint Eastwood” Into Midtempo Mayhem

It’s no easy feat to take on a Gorillaz track, which many can argue is perfect as is. However, Rome in Silver is here to prove that notion wrong with his flip of “Clint Eastwood.” To aid him on his journey, he’s enlisted the help of his roommate, fellow bass producer Bonnema. Rome is known for delivering the unexpected with his releases, consistenly keeping his fans on their toes. Will they get a drum & bass track? Or maybe a house or future bass hit? The answer to that question relative to his “Clint Eastwood” edit is none of the above. Rome In Silver has flexed his dark midtempo bass skills this time around, transforming the original while keeping Damon Albarn‘s classic voice as the centerfold while he and Bonnema unravel mind-...

Skrillex Wipes His Instagram, Sparking New Music Rumors

As music lovers, we can’t help but speculate anytime a major artist does something that even remotely hints at the possibility of new music. The fandoms are quick to pounce when they notice a new artist-to-artist social media follow, or a tweet from a leading producer is released. Something that especially makes the metaphorical ears perk is when someone wipes their Instagram clean, seemingly making way for some big news to come.   Skrillex has done just that, erasing all but two posts on his Instagram page. The two posts left behind are one from 2019 where he’s filmed at a festival killing his mixer and one displaying his recent Black Lives Matter-inspired track with Ty Dolla $ign, Ant Clemons, Virtual Riot, and Nia Miranda. This immediately caught fans’ attent...

10 Years, 10 Questions With David Koepp: On Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Spider-Man, and Stephen King

“I love the idea that you can go into a house and your grip on reality starts to loosen,” says director and screenwriter David Koepp, who confesses, “I feel like I’ve been telling that story for 25 years, but what can you do? You like what you like.” Over Zoom, the Hollywood veteran weighs in on the parallels between his latest film You Should Have Left and his previous directorial efforts, particularly 1999’s Stir of Echoes and 2004’s Secret Window. He’s not wrong: All three films revolve around troubled male protagonists left to their own devices as they dig deeper holes for themselves. But Koepp is also being modest. After all, you don’t become one of the most successful screenwriters of all time by telling the same damn story again and again — and, to be frank, he hasn’t. For 30 years ...

Public Enemy (photo by Paul R. Giunta) and Beyoncé Song of the Week breaks down and talks about the song we just can’t get out of our head each week. Find these songs and more on our Spotify New Sounds playlist. America clearly wants music that helps them raise their voices. Don’t believe it? Amid protests, streams of Rage Against the Machine music have increased 62%, enough to send “Killing in the Name”, a 29-year-old song, to top five in the digital streaming charts. Socially conscious outfit Run the Jewels have seen their fourth installment find the Billboard 200 top 10 and are all over mid-year lists. The music we love has its roots in rebellion and hard times, so it’s not surprising that something innate in us turns to our earbuds and streaming devices when the world seems to be circl...

Kurt Cobain’s MTV Unplugged Guitar Sells For Record-Setting $6 Million in Auction

Kurt Cobain’s guitar from Nirvana’s iconic MTV Unplugged episode sold for a record-setting amount of $6,010,000 at a charity auction on Saturday. The 1959 Martin D-18E acoustic-electric guitar far surpassed its original estimate of $1 million dollars. The sale set five new world records, including the most expensive guitar ever sold and the most expensive piece of band memorabilia ever sold. The buyer was Peter Freedman, founder of RØDE Microphones, who plans to display the guitar in a worldwide exhibition tour, with all proceeds going to the performing arts organizations. In addition to the instrument itself, the guitar came with its original hard-shell case — decorated by Cobain with a flyer from Poison Idea’s 1990 album Feel the Darkness, three baggage claim ticket stubs, and an Alaska ...

The Avalanches are Digitizing and Converting a 1974 Broadcast Signal Into Music

A message that was first used in an attempt to contact intelligent life is now being turned into music. That’s right, if you thought you’d seen it all when it comes to clever sampling and creative audio to MIDI conversions, Australian electronic duo, The Avalanches, are about to take things a step further.  It’s unknown whether Frank Drake, creator of the 1974 Arecibo Message, envisioned his work being turned into a song several decades later, but that is exactly what’s been teased in The Avalanches’ latest post. The astronomer and astrophysicist’s now-famous radio wave message was originally beamed to a star cluster 25,000 light-years away. The message contained basic information about humanity and planet Earth. At the time of t...
