Dave Grohl, Neil Young, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga led a group of artists urging Congress to send aid and to answer the National Independent Venue Association’s request for government assistance. Overall, over 600 musicians and comedians signed the letter. These venues asking for support have been hit especially hard by the coronavirus pandemic. “Independent venues give artists their start, often as the first stage most of us have played on. Common, Lena Waithe and More Set For ‘The Chi With Love’ Virtual Benefit Concert
Showtime has set a virtual concert that will feature headliners Lena Waithe and Common — creative collaborators on the network’s Chicago-set series he Chi T— and a focus on the Equal Justice Initiative. On behalf of the drama series, Showtime and parent company ViacomCBS will kick off the fundraising effort with a $500,000 donation. The Lyric Opera of Chicago and San Francisco Opera have canceled the fall portions of their 2020-21 seasons due to the new coronavirus. The Lyric Opera eliminated four of its 10 productions and delayed opening night from Sept. 17 to Jan. 16. San Francisco canceled five of seven stagings and delayed opening night from Sept. 11 to April 25. Twenty-six performances were canceled in Chicago and 37 in San Francisco. Ushuaïa and Hï Ibiza Will Not Be Hosting Events Through July
Two of Ibiza’s hottest clubs are continuing to mitigate risk from COVID-19 by remaining shut down even as the broader nation of Spain moves forward with reopening. A joint announcement from Hï Ibiza and Ushuaïa revealed that the venues intend to stay closed through at least the month of July. Spain recently entered its third phase of reopening, which granted some nightlife venues permission to open at limited capacity. At the same time, President Francina Armengol of the Balearic Islands issued a decree preventing bars and clubs within her jurisdiction from reopening, which includes those in Ibiza.
