It’s been an interesting few weeks for System of a Down fans. Drummer John Dolmayan and singer Serj Tankian have taken complete opposite stances on President Trump and protests overall in recent weeks, with the former praising the president and the latter, not so much. In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Tankian made it even more clear where he stands (not that it even needed any clarification). Ahead of posting lyrics to the band’s unreleased “Temper,” Tankian wrote the following: A very early @systemofadown song that was on one of our demos-lyrics below: if you love this song or play along to it and love Trump, you’re a hypocrite-just a simple fact 🙂 “Temper” View this post on Instagram A very early @systemofadown song that was on one of our demos-lyrics below: if you love...
Tekashi 6ix9ine and Nicki Minaj unveiled the lyric video for their new collaboration “Trollz” on Monday (June 15). The animated clip features rainbow-haired cartoons of the two rappers sharing a candy-coated lollipop as the track’s lyrics flash across the screen. “Dolla dolla bill, come get her/ Even ya man know Nickis do it better/ I know you don’t like me, you wanna fight me/ Always on my page, never double tap like me/ Baddies to my left and on my right/ Never chase a corny n*****, put that on my life,” Minaj raps on the second verse after taking the reins from 6ix9ine. The lyric video follows the release of the single’s official visual, which notched more than 32 million views in the first 24 hours after release. (In fact, the clip trailed just...
As the ongoing coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc on the live music industry, enterprising artists and venues around the country are being forced to think outside the box when it comes to playing for an audience. The most recent innovative solution? Drive-in concerts, which have started springing up as an alternative to standing in a packed crowd to see your favorite musician. From an underground show in Los Angeles to Keith Urban becoming the first major star to hop on the trend, Billboard has rounded up a list of drive-in concerts across the country since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak. We’ll update this list as more drive-in shows are announced. July 10-11: Andrew McMahon will be performing the Jack’s Mannequin album Everything in Transit as well as mus...
Universal Music Group is relaunching EMI Records, the iconic British record label which UMG acquired for $1.9 billion in 2012. As part of the relaunch, UMG’s Virgin EMI is renamed EMI Records, effective immediately. The Virgin Records imprint will continue under the new EMI Records banner. At the helm is newly-appointed EMI president Rebecca Allen, a 20-year UMG veteran and former Billboard Women In Music honoree. Closely associated with the British pop movement of the 1960s, EMI’s star-studded roster in the UK in the ’60s and ’70s included The Beatles, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and the Supremes, the Jackson Five, The Temptations and Smokey Robinson. EMI continued to be home to the UK’s top music stars in the 1990s, when it signed acts l...
“I feel so very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with someone as talented as Lee, and I will always hold this song so dear to my heart.” Carly Pearce and Lee Brice‘s “I Hope You’re Happy Now” rises 3-1 in its 36th week on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart, dated June 20. In the frame ending June 14, the duet increased by 11 percent to 30 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Pearce penned “Happy” with Luke Combs, Randy Montana and Jonathan Singleton. “Happy” marks Pearce’s second Country Airplay leader, after her debut hit as a lead artist, “Every Little Thing,” led for a week in November 2017. Brice banks his sixth No. 1 and second in a row, following “Rumor,&...
Members of the Melvins and Mudhoney have joined forces for a new EP titled White Lazy Boy. On the four-song collection, which was released last week via Amphetamine Reptile Records, you can hear Mudhoney’s Mark Arm and Steve Turner jam with Buzzo, Dale Cromer and bassist Steve McDonald. Great news, right? Not so fast. The EP was issued on CD (remember those?) and, it’s completely sold out. Thankfully, due to the joys of the internet, the covers of Black Flag’s “My War” and Neil Young’s “Drive Back” are online. But what the Seattle legends do is rip, and they certainly let it fly on these tracks. White Lazy Boy is out now — if you can get your hands on it. Listen to the songs below. Phil Elverum has been more recently associated with Mount Erie. However, his previous musical project, the Microphones, has been revived and will be releasing its first new album in 17 years. Buzz around the Microphones’ return started when Elverum performed the first Microphones show since 2003 last year. But it looks like he’s ready to drop more music under the moniker. Entitled Microphones in 2020, the record won’t be a collection of track. Instead, it will be “made entirely of one, 44-minute song,” which he worked on between May 2019 and May 2020. “I used to call my recordings a different name. A small clump of albums from 1997-2002 were called ‘the Microphones,’ including some popular ones,” Elverum said in a statement (via Stereogum). “But the essence of this project has never really...
Catelynn and Tyler have always wanted a son — remember when he exclaimed, “Son of a gun!” when he saw pink confetti at Nova’s gender reveal? Or when Cate stated, “I don’t want another girl” at Vaeda’s? During tonight’s Teen Mom OG finale, Catelynn and Ty continued their ongoing discussion about having “another one” but they both wanted to explore the possibility of ensuring a little boy. “I want to see a gender selection doctor,” Cate told Tyler and his mom Kim. “I thought about making an appointment just to find out more. What is it?” The 16 and Pregnant lovebirds got details from the reproductive endocrinologist: The process takes about 10 weeks, including three weeks of birth control and then, after menstruati...
Mackenzie and her family commemorated Angie’s first birthday (she would have been 51) without their beloved matriarch during this week’s Teen Mom OG finale. And the mother of three made sure to honor her parent with “a very special day” to help everyone “heal” and celebrate the things Angie loved most. “We probably just have to get together and run,” Mackenzie told her sister Whitney. “That’s so important because that gave us extra time with her.” Mackenzie ultimately planned for the family to be together, and she opted to run for 51 minutes. All while “thinking about her life and thankful for the mom God gave me.” Later, Mackenzie met up with her loved ones for dinner, including her dad Brad and sister Whitney. ...
Since the moment its first season released on Netflix in 2017, the Selena Gomez-produced drama 13 Reasons Why has propelled a spectrum of difficult, yet passionate conversations. Exploring such painful topics as bullying, suicide, sexual assault that affect many teens today, it has sparked powerful responses across lines: appreciation from young fans for its raw takes, as well as genuine, fearful ire from parents. And now, it has all come to a close. Its fourth and final season hit Netflix earlier this month. The closest to fantastical horror that the series has delivered to date, the season follows a group of high school students covering up the murder of a football player, all while preparing for their freshman year of college. No longer guided by the Jay Asher novel on which it’s premis...
