On May 11th, Elon Musk defied local health care officials and reopened his Tesla factory in Fremont, California. Now, via Washington Post and Vox, “several cases” of the novel coronavirus have been confirmed among his unfortunate workers. Musk initially closed his Tesla factories back in March, after coming into conflict with the Fremont police and Alameda County sheriff. Two months later, California state guidelines suggested that companies like Tesla could reopen, although the guidelines were non-binding and deferential to local health care officials. The Alameda County Public Health Department tried to block Tesla’s re-opening, but Musk did it anyway, while also suing the county. A few days later, the issue was resolved when Musk agreed to stricter safety measures. T...
Lady Antebellum, the popular country music trio from Nashville, have officially changed their name to Lady A. The rebranding comes as the media and entertainment industries — along with the rest of the country — are being forced to face decades of racial inequality, insensitivity, and prejudice in the wake of nationwide protests sparked by the murder of George Floyd by members of the Minneapolis police. Strictly meaning “before the war,” the word “antebellum” has come to refer to the pre-Civil War period of the South. In other words, a time when America was built on the foundation of slavery. In a statement, the band members — Hillary Scott, Dave Haywood, and Charles Kelley — acknowledged that changing their name 14 years into their career could beg the question of what took so long. “The ...
Margo Price served as the latest guest on CBS This Morning: Saturday. She performed her new single “Letting Me Down”, as well as a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Things Have Changed”, and her own b-side, “Drifter”. For an artist who made her name in Americana and country, she put together a surprisingly rocking set. “Letting Me Down” is already among Price’s most muscular songs, with a ripping electric guitar that keeps the track locked in fifth gear. And while she could’ve chosen a folksier Bob Dylan cover, she instead opted for “Things Have Changed”, the Academy-award winning original song from the 2000 film Wonder Boys. “Things Have Changed” is upbeat and bluesy, and Price pushes her voice outside of its comfort zone. She puts some grind into her phrasing, punctuating her usual cr...

Happy birthday? While June 14 marks Donald Trump’s 74th birthday, many are celebrating the day by honoring … a former president. (As of press time, #HappyBirthdayDonaldTrump was at No. 24.) Among those tipping their hats to the 44th president is Mariah Carey. The singer shared a photo of herself beaming alongside the former president and first lady. She captioned the Instagram and Twitter image simply, “Happy #ObamaAppreciationDay!!” Ciara also joined in, sharing a sepia-toned photo of herself s...

In an interview with a New York City radio station on Saturday, the ‘Da 5 Bloods’ director got candid about Allen and “cancel culture.” “I’d just like to say Woody Allen is a great, great filmmaker and this cancel thing is not just Woody.” Spike Lee is taking back the statements he made defending Woody Allen. In an interview with New York City radio station WOR’s In the Morning program on Friday (June 12), the Da 5 Bloods director got candid about Allen and “cancel culture.” “I’d just like to say Woody Allen is a great, great filmmaker and this cancel thing is not just Woody,” Lee said on the show. “And I think when we look back on it we are going to see that — short of killing somebody — I don’t know that you can just erase...
Bar owners in New Orleans prepared for a soft opening, and an uncertain one, as they began letting customers in Saturday (June 13) for the first time in months. Capacity is limited to 25%, live music remains prohibited, and nobody knows how many tourists will show on Bourbon Street in the age of COVID-19. Pam Fortner, owner of six French Quarter venues, is opening only two of them, both on Bourbon, where the customary blocks-long frat party atmosphere ended in an abrupt shutdown in mid-March. Now, she’s not sure what to expect. She sat at a sidewalk table at Royal and St. Ann on Thursday, eating a Caesar salad and deriving hope from the occasional out-of-state license plate she saw amid sparse traffic. “I think Saturday will be busy,” she said in an interview. Cherie Boos, manager of Lafit...
Feed Me and Flux Pavilion are finally ready to fulfill the wildest dreams of their basshead fans with a forthcoming collaboration. On Friday, Feed Me took to social media to drop a brief teaser of their song and tag Flux Pavilion. Hours after posting, it seems there was still a burning thought eating at Feed Me who followed up the initial tweet with another, which read, “I still have no idea what time signature we made this in.” While the setup appears to have all the makings of a mind-bending sonic journey, the teaser starts out innocent enough. A soft-spoken vocal invitingly lures listeners into a sense of security before a sudden dose of reality hits in the form of a colorful, blaring lead. This is a Feed Me and Flux Pavilion track after all, and the two producers aren’...
