Stream Built to Spill Plays the Songs of Daniel Johnston in full below via Bandcamp. Out via Ernest Jenning Record Co., their tribute to the lo-fi songwriting legend spans 11 tracks. All the recordings — which include takes on “Tell Me Now”, “Life in Vain”, and “Impossible Love” — were taken from rehearsal sessions Built to Spill held in 2017 while serving as the backing band on Johnston’s final tour. “It was pretty special for us,” Built to Spill frontman Doug Martsch told Rolling Stone. “Basically we wanted to get good documentation of what our rehearsals were like. It was a lot heavier than what I thought it would be.” Ac...

Artemis Fowl Isn’t Worth 94 Minutes of Your Life: Review

The Pitch: After years in development hell, Disney is unveiling its attempt at a new franchise with the adaptation of Eoin Colfer’s first Artemis Fowl novel. With a cast that includes Colin Farrell, Josh Gad, and Dame Judi Dench, and esteemed director Kenneth Branagh behind the camera, what could go wrong? What Went Wrong: Well, just about everything. The one mercy of Artemis Fowl is that it’s short, clocking in at just 94 minutes including its end credits. Unfortunately, that gives Branagh and credited screenwriters Conor McPherson and Hamish McColl plenty of time to create confusing character motivations, half-assed attempts at emotional gravitas, and stabs at humor that are best left unsaid or unseen. For those of us who haven’t read the Colfer books, Artemis Fowl fails to tell its most...

Neil Young Unearths Homegrown Track “Vacancy”: Stream

It took 46 years, but next Friday (June 19th) finally brings the release of Neil Young’s Homegrown. Now, though, Homegrown will finally receive release on June 19th through Reprise Records. To preview the release, Young previously unveiled the album track “Try”. Now, he’s unveiled a second offering in “Vacancy”. Take a listen below. Of the 12 tracks featured on Homegrown, five of them would later find homes on other albums. “Try”, “Vacancy”, and five other songs have been been issued before. Here’s What Happened at Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter’s Pride Summit & Prom

Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter‘s Pride Summit and Pride Prom – which you can be part of here — opened on Saturday (June 13) with a strong call for “every single one of us” to stand up against racism and police brutality. Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors reminded participants in the digital summit that Stonewall was started by black queer and trans activists, and the “police played such a terrible role” in that landmark uprising that kickstarted the modern LGBTQ equality movement. After Cullors’ opening statement, singer and activist Shea Diamond used her astonishing voice to convey a related message with her bone-chilling song “Don’t Shoot.” Black Lives Matter was a common thread throughout the panels as well. ...

With his guitar and purple hair at the ready, Shamir stopped by Billboard’s Pride Prom to perform his sweet, twangy new song “On My Own.” Okay, he didn’t “stop by” literally, but he did send in a home video to our digital Pride Summit & Pride Prom. “It’s a nice little song about enjoying your own company, which I think a lot of us are starting to do and get used to — or at least I hope so,” Shamir said while introducing the tune. “On My Own” previews Shamir’s new album coming out this fall.
