RATING: 8.5/10 Heavy metal always provides in our hour of need. The return of SORCERER seems particularly timely, such is the Swedes’ noted mastery of an epic, classic and utterly ageless strain of doom metal that can hardly fail to resonate in an age of widespread mourning. Perhaps more importantly, however, “Lamenting of the Innocent” is far more than just another exercise in sledgehammer sorrow. Metal’s ability to inspire and uplift hardly needs restating here, but within seconds of first track proper “The Hammer of Witches”, it’s obvious that this is as much a celebration of heavy metal as it is a funeral march. Madonna Rips Minneapolis Police After George Floyd Murder: ‘This Has to Stop!!’
Madonna took to Instagram on Tuesday to excoriate the four Minneapolis police officers who murdered George Floyd. During the incident, Floyd repeatedly told police officers that he could not breathe and was ignored, with one kneeling on his neck in a disturbing video. He died shortly after. According to CNN, the officers were responding to an alleged forgery (ed. note: what the fuck) in progress and the suspect was sitting in a car allegedly under the influence. The officers involved in the incident were fired on Tuesday. Mastodon Working on New Album, Recording Song for New “Bill & Ted” Movie
Mastodon were making significant progress on their highly anticipated new album, until the coronavirus pandemic delayed production. In a new interview, guitarist Bill Kelliher revealed the metal band had laid down 20 rough songs when the recording process came to a halt. “We were kind of right in the middle of it and we had about, I don’t know, 20 rough songs recorded right before this [pandemic] hit. And it just totally put the brakes on it,” Kelliher told RocknRoll Beer Guy. There’s a glimmer of hope that summer in Ibiza may still be possible after all. Over the weekend, Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sánchez announced that the country will reopen to international tourists starting July 1st. The move will hopefully support Spain’s crucial nightlife industry down the line. However, at the time of writing, Ibiza’s major clubs are still closed through the end of June and have not yet announced their own plans for reopening.
