Promoters Aren’t Expecting Large Concerts to Return Until Summer 2021
In what should come as a surprise to almost no one, live music promoters are ready to throw in the towel for 2020 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. A New York Times article published on Sunday (May 24) spoke with a number of prominent executives, all who are pointing to next summer as the time when they can realistically expect the concert business to get back on track. Despite local governments allowing steady reopening and for some concerts to take place, the executives appear to be realistic about the situation. “While we think that phenomenal strides are being made in both cases, given the lead time involved in planning major concert tours, and the uncertainties that exist today, we don’t expect a large volume of major tours in the fall,” Live Nation president Joe Berchtold said...

Richard Herd as Mr. Wilhelm on Seinfeld Richard Herd, the veteran character actor who played George’s boss Mr. Wilhelm on Seinfeld, has died at the age of 87. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Herd passed away Tuesday, May 26th, at his home in Los Angeles from cancer-related causes. Between 1995 and 1998, Herd appeared in 11 episodes of Seinfeld, playing Matt Wilhelm, George Constanza’s boss at the New York Yankees. Mr. Wilhelm’s first appearance came on the season 6 episode “The Jimmy”, and his character was central to the plot of several other memorable episodes, including “The Wink”, “The Hot Tub”, ‘The Checks”, “The Bottle Deposit”, and “The Millennium”. The Safdie Brothers Ink Deal with HBO
Benny and Josh Safdie, the brothers behind the instant cult favorite Uncut Gems, have signed a two-year, first-look deal with HBO. As THR reports, they’ll create new projects under their own banner of Elara Pictures. Two longtime Safdie collaborators, producer Sebastian Bear-McClard and writer Ronald Bronstein, are also along for the anxiety-inducing ride. All of their HBO efforts will be executive produced by A24, which had previously worked with the Safdie’s on Uncut Gems and Good Time. A24 has lately developed a robust relationship with Home Box Office, including producing the new hit Euphoria.
