Guinean singer Mory Kante, an influential figure in African and world music, has died, his family said Friday. He was 70. Kante brought Guinean, and Mandingo, culture to the world. He was called an ambassador of Afro-Pop music. His song “Yeke Yeke,” released in the late ’80s, has been remixed and covered extensively. “Guinea and the whole world have lost a great personality,” Kante’s son, Balla Kante, told The Associated Press. “My father was a great personality. We lost a large library today.” [embedded content] Balla said his father had not been feeling well for quite some time and died in a hospital in the capital, Conakry. He will be tested for COVID-19, his son confirmed.“He was an elderly man who did a lot and exerted a lot of physical energy,” Balla said. Born on March 29, 1950 in A...
Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s pop mega-collaboration “Rain on Me” is reigning over the U.K. singles chart. The new single, which dropped last Friday with an accompanying music video, rules the Official Chart First Look Top 20 with a lead of 7,000 chart sales over its nearest rival, DaBaby’s “Rockstar” featuring Roddy Ricch. [embedded content] “Rain on Me,” lifted from Gaga’s delayed sixth studio album Chromatica, due out this Friday May 29, holds the advantage on downloads and streams after the weekend’s activity. If it holds its position when the Official U.K. Singles Chart is published this Friday, “Rain on Me” will mark the sixth No. 1 for Gaga and Grande. Also making a big splash on the sales blast is British rapper KSI, who places three songs in the top 2...
RL Grime‘s single “UCLA” is entrenched as the de facto anthem of The University of California, Los Angeles. “UCLA,” which appears on the trap kingpin’s seminal sophomore album Nova, effectively etched its name in university lore since its ballyhooed summer 2018 release. The track’s intoxicating, technically pristine production and velvety vocals courtesy of Atlanta rapper 24hrs reverberate through virtually every single tailgate, mixer, sporting event, and frat party on the university’s campus, sending harmonic ripples of camaraderie through everyone that hears it. The song’s intrinsically rapturous sound, which is rooted in future bass, lends to an uplifting and euphoric ethos, which is something college students desperately ...

Hot on the heels of his new collaboration with Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo‘s production supergroup, The Neptunes, comes a new hourlong set from deadmau5. Released in honor of KISS Ibiza‘s “LIVE in the MIX!” online festival, the trendsetting producer joined artists like Kygo, Alesso, Tiësto, and more for three days of music. In typical deadmau5 fashion, the virtual production was mind-blowing. While many artists have used green-screens in their livestreamed performances, the masked EDM superstar raised the bar with a simulated dome complete with his iconic cube v3 production and a horde of mau5head-wearing, computer-generated attendees. Earlier in the week, deadmau5 treated fans to a special performance from his techno alter ego TESTPILOT...
In phase two of Nashville, Tennessee’s COVID-19 reopening plan, live music will be making its grand return. While this is exciting for the local music scene, this absolutely does not mean full-scale events or festivals will be permitted, as there are strict rules in place. According to the new guidelines reported by Digital Music News, only two performers are allowed on stage at a time and only twenty-five people may be in attendance. In addition, performers and attendees must be at least ten feet apart at all times, equipment must be sanitized after each act concludes their set, and dance floors are strictly prohibited. Alongside the live music resurrection, gyms, hair and nail salons, retail stores, and more are permitted to open their doors with capacity restrictions in plac...

After receiving the news, the late EDM megastar’s father, Klas Bergling, spoke with Tomorrowland’s One World Radio about his son’s win and how much he and his family appreciate the support. “My wife and I are really grateful that the People of Tomorrow have selected ‘Levels’ as the number one and their favorite record in the history of Tomorrowland. It means a lot to us and to Tim’s legacy, and of course his fans around the world. It’s...
