Working with a brilliant team of fashion editors who have their fingers on the pulse means that, luckily for me, I’ve had the low-down on the spring/summer fashion trends for 2021 for quite a while now. The world of beauty, however, can be a little trickier to predict. We’ve already delved into the brilliant beauty products that shaped 2020, but the growing popularity of platforms like TikTok means that trending beauty often changes overnight. Combine that with the uncertainty around the opening and closing of beauty salons, and it’s becoming increasingly tricky to forecast which beauty treatments and trends look set to take off in 2021. However, after enjoying just one haircut during the whole of 2020,...
Who What Wear Spotlight was born when our co-founder Katherine Power had the idea to use some of our ad inventory to support small fashion and beauty businesses that have been impacted by COVID-19. As part of this global effort, every month the UK site will each turn the spotlight on a small brand we love in our market. On WWW UK the chosen brand will receive a complimentary exposure package featuring the company, including an editorial story on WhoWhatWear.co.uk, social promotion and ads on the site leading to the content. With these efforts, we are extending a hand to the fashion-and-beauty community, using our ad inventory for good, and directing our global audience of 16+ million shoppers worldwide (and 2.3 million shoppers on Whowhatwear.co.uk) to the brands that ...
It’s no secret that the stylish characters of our favourite films and TV series were the unexpected fashion influencers of 2020. In only 28 days, The Queen’s Gambit was Netflix’s most watched series to date, and that’s heavily in part due to Beth Harmon’s bombshell ’60s style. Then, the internet was divided over that green coat on The Undoing and if we should all be dressing like Regency-era debutantes in Bridgeton. If you’ve been living vicariously through glamorous onscreen fashion moments lately, then you’ll love the stylish movies and tv shows coming up in 2021. This year’s most fashionable films include psychological thriller Last Night in Soho, directed by Edgar Wright and starring Anya Taylor-Joy as an up-and-coming fashion desig...
I honestly can’t remember the last time I wore skinny jeans. Perhaps two—maybe even three—years have gone by since a pair was even in my rotation. It’s not surprising, you need only look at the current spring/summer 2021 fashion trends to see that loose jeans are now on the rise. And a quick glance in my wardrobes shows that rigid, non-stretch, looser styles dominate. In fact, I didn’t think I’d be needing to make room for skinnies in my wardrobe anytime soon, but, of course, things change. Whether it’s pairing them with of-the-moment knee-high boots or an oversized blazer (or both), these looks below actually have me wanting to check my storage for a pair. To see all eight of the outfits I’m loving for yourself and shop them along the way, just k...
There’s no denying that H&M, especially right now, knows what it’s doing. It caters to a lot of people and to varying tastes but still manages to somehow consistently nail it. If you don’t believe me, then allow me to point you in the direction of the fact that its puff-sleeve dress from last summer was one of the most in-demand products of the year, according to Lyst. While this might not be news to many of you, the H&M Group owns a lot of other clothing brands that are just as good as its original. COS, & Other Stories, Weekday, Monki, and Arket make up the impressive collection, all of which come with their own distinctive styles. New mom Gigi Hadid seems to be prioritizing comfort these days, but then again who isn’t? This is why leggings have experienced somewhat of a resurgence as of late. Denim and sweatpants may have stolen their thunder, but it was only temporary, as fashion people, celebrities, and tons of cool girls on Instagram are once again embracing them. For months now, the freshest legging trend you can buy has been slit-hem leggings (see the proof in this story and this one from earlier this year). And now Hadid is pushing the trend forward. While out in NYC over the weekend, Hadid stepped out in a cropped puffer, slit leggings, and neon Nike sneakers. And what strikes us again and again is that this legging trend is able to accommodate any shoe style—sneakers, flip-flops, an...
Of all the questions that I’m asked as a beauty editor, how to actually get rid of dark circles has to be up there as one of the most widespread enquiries. From my teenage sister whose laidback approach to studying often results in all-nighters spent at the library to my friend that has forgotten what sleep is since becoming a mum of three, dark circles are all-inclusive when it comes to who they target. Luckily, there are things that you can do to combat dark under-eye circles if they are bothering you—and one of the simplest places to start is with a decent eye cream. The best fashion trends for spring and summer 2021 show us that how we find style inspiration has become much more diverse. The London Fashion Week catwalk will always give trends their official validation, but we can’t leave out the sartorial impact of pivotal political moments of the past year and the stylish television and film characters that are giving us our fashion fix through lockdown. For spring 2021, we picked seven standout fashion trends that we are buzzing to wear for the warmer months ahead and why they’re worth adding to your wardrobe. “Fashion flossing” is becoming a popular term in editorial and refers to brands like Charlotte Knowles, Victoria Beckham, and Roksanda that are using delicate spaghetti straps and drawstrings details to give a subtle, &...
Who says that It bags have to cost a small fortune? Sure, a designer tote isn’t something I’ll ever say no to (I currently can’t stop thinking about the Prada Cleo and Gucci’s Jackie), but a must-have bag that’s also affordable? That’s almost unheard of. Today, however, is the day to get acquainted with one such affordable It bag, and it comes with Alexa Chung’s approval. The Mercado Bag, currently being sold by Lalo, costs a mere £15 and was spotted on Chung back in December. I’m considering purchasing a version. While the red one that the TV presenter is carrying is already sold out, there are plenty of similar styles on the Lalo website. It’s worth noting that this style of bag, the Mercado, isn’t new. It...
If it’s not abundantly clear from our daily article round-up, we are big champions of the Great British high street here at Who What Wear. However, I have to admit that scrolling through the new-in section of the average e-commerce site can feel like being caught in a hailstorm of roll-necks, boots, and puffer coats. (Items change according to the season.) With lockdown 3.0 ensuring that laps around the local park aren’t disappearing any time soon, we’ve definitely spent far too many evenings lost down an online shopping hole in order to find the best affordable coats to carry us through the next three months. Allow me to be of assistance. Having a bird’s-eye view over the changing trends of...
It’s not often that a single item stops us in our tracks, let alone a cardigan from the high street. Well, this week one brand has only gone and done it, and it doesn’t take many guesses as to which brand nailed it: & Other Stories, of course. Coming in a subtle shade of grey-brown and finished with an unusual asymmetrical, button-up design, it might not be the most look-at-me style in the world, but perhaps therein lies its luxury appeal. Drawing influence from the many other designer brands who have embraced the less-is-more design dictum this season, & Other Stories has well and truly spoken to our lockdown cravings for comfy, elevated basics. It’s the sort of piece that you can add to your trusty joggers and shearling slippers but...
For many months, I thought little of it, but then, I noticed that my go-to mascara wasn’t working its usual lash-boosting miracles. In general, my lashes were looking thinner and more sparse and weren’t framing my eyes in the way they once did. While I knew that lash serums were a thing, I’d previously never given them the time of day. In all honesty, there is no product in the world that can actually make your lashes grow longer. However, lash fallout had never been something I’d had to consider. In theory, products that work to condition and strengthen lashes meant that any fallout I was experiencing could be reduced, and I was willing to give them a go. So over the course of the last couple of years, I’ve tried and tested an array of lash serums, treatments, and oils in a bid to get my ...
