When I look back to my teenage years, I always wonder how I used to go out all night wearing the most inappropriately high heels. How did I not break an ankle? And why did I always think the higher, the better? Maybe it’s age, or maybe I just prefer the aesthetic more now, but I’m all for low heels. Granted, my eyes have been turned by the mega platforms from the likes of Valentino, but in reality, I would wear them once and go back to my comfy pairs that actually work for any occasion. While strappy sandals and mules are my weakness, for 2022, I’ve also been swayed by a whole host of other actually wearable heels. And if I had a wedding to go to this year, I would most certainly be swapping blister-making high heels for clunky clogs, kitten heels and wedges. And as an anti-...
If you asked any fashion person what designer they’d choose if they could only wear one brand all summer, I think I know what they’d say. And no, it’s not someone flashy like Valentino or Chanel (although I wouldn’t say no to a pair of those new chunky flip flops)— I’m thinking the answer would be a little more low-key. After all, Matteau is the independent Australian brand so many editors, influencers and celebrities are straight-up obsessed with right now. So much so that it’s difficult to scroll through my fashionable Insta feed at any given time without coming across the brand’s signature pieces. Not that you’d even realise— Matteau’s appeal is in its understated luxury. Starting off as a minimalist swimwear brand known for simple square necklines and strappy bikini...
To begin with, I tried filling in the stencil with a brown eye shadow (as I had seen on Instagram), and although I liked it, I didn’t think the result was dramatic enough for me to warrant using them all the time. So instead, I dug out a creamy eye shadow pencil (Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour) in a bright colour—a shimmering brick red—and scribbled over the top. The result? Dreamy. In fact, I’m going to totally give up on trying to learn any sort of winged-liner technique at all. Even with my down-turning eyes, Quickie Stickies executed a totally perfect winged-liner look. And while I wouldn’t typically endorse a single-use product (they aren’t good for the environment), I feel comfortable knowing that each pack of Quickie Stickies is particul...
The Duchess of Cambridge doesn’t often walk the red carpet, but when she does, she typically wears all things sparkly and ornate. So when Kate Middleton was photographed last night at the Top Gun: Maverick premiere in London, my jaw dropped when I saw her impossibly beautiful dress devoid of all embellishments. She traded in sequins for a sleek black-and-white column gown that I’d argue is her most elegant look to date. Middleton wore a Roland Mouret gown on the red carpet, where she met the movie’s stars Tom Cruise and Jennifer Connelly. How’s that for a Hollywood-Kensington crossover? Two years ago, a day didn’t go by that I didn’t see a nap dress, a term coined by the brand Hill House Home that describes its Victorian-esque cotton dresses that went viral during lockdown. Not only were people buying out Hill House Home’s styles, but they were also shopping for alternatives from brands that, too, hopped on board the trend. Somewhere between then and now, the billowy, lightweight style lost its buzz factor. Now, I can’t remember the last time I saw someone wearing a nap dress. That is until a few days ago when Jennifer Lopez wore one, jump-starting the trend all over again. Spotted in Los Angeles this weekend, Lopez wore a delicately embroidered white nap dress from Dôen, another go-to brand for the ethereal silhouette...
There’s a new celebrity icon in this world—and he’s only six days old. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have officially welcomed their first child, a baby boy who was born on May 13, 2022, in Los Angeles, according to TMZ. No word yet on the bundle of joy’s name, but we’ll keep you updated when we hear. Ooh na na, what’s my name? Yes, I had to. We’ve been waiting with bated breath for the happy news ever since Rihanna announced her pregnancy in spectacular fashion back in January wearing low-rise jeans, a belly chain, and a hot-pink puffer coat. Naturally, we’ll miss Rihanna’s signature brand of maternity style, which gave us iconic moments including a skimpy lace-up top, sheer gown, miniskirts, and more. That said, we’r...
The truth was, I didn’t have any tips. Every message I received encouraged me a little more to reach out to some experts in a bid to find out what was going on, and best to take the puffiness down. The reasons, I discovered, for puffy eyes are broad-ranging. Miss Elizabeth Hawkes, Consultant Ophthalmic and Oculoplastic Surgeon at the Cadogan Clinic explains, “Puffy eyes can be caused by a multitude of factors, including lack of sleep, crying, fluid retention, genetic, medical conditions (such as thyroid problems), and an unhealthy diet. At this time of year, seasonal allergies can play havoc and can cause itchy, watery, swollen, and puffy eyes.” And with the possible causes of puffiness seeming abundant, I realised that addressing the individual causes of my puffiness could prov...
The Cannes Film Festival is always the most glamorous fortnight of the year, as it sees all of the powerhouses in Hollywood unite on the French Riviera for premiere after premiere after premiere (with a yacht party thrown in in-between). We’re only two days into the festival, but as expected, we’ve already seen some of the magic that couture houses have been creating in preparation for the most fabulous red carpet in the world. We’re also keeping a close eye on the arrivals hall at Nice Airport this week, as celebrities arrive in the Riviera prepared to be photographed, meaning this has become as much a fashion parade as the photo calls on the Croisette and the major premieres. Keep scrolling to see all the best red carpet looks from the Cannes F...
If I had to sum up my ideal approach to fashion in one phrase, it would have to be ‘minimal effort, maximum impact’. I love outfits that can be thrown on and styled in no more than five minutes flat, but when you walk out the door you could fool people into thinking you spent hours putting it together. While for some people, clothes are just something you put on in the morning, I have found that clothes can really have a transformative effect on my mood. I really need to feel comfy but also polished to be the most relaxed and confident version of myself. Thankfully, summer is a season that lends itself to the low-maintenance approach to dressing, as you can stick to simple and time-tested combinations. Just think of the power of a colourful mi...
Honestly, I was blown away by the variety of on-trend cuts that ticked every box from skinny to wide-leg, as well as the fits. Most pairs fit exactly true to size (if they didn’t, I’ve made a note below), with just enough stretch in them to flatter in all the right places. I’m a pretty standard size 10 and I don’t have stick-thin legs, so one of the most difficult things I find when buying jeans is getting the waist to fit snugly without being too tight on the leg. And I have to say, H&M has this nailed. So if you’ve been searching for a great pair of classic jeans to bolster your collection, keep scrolling to see the six H&M pairs I really rate, and shop them below. Although our love for all things fashion is a common thread running through the Who What Wear UK team, I’d be lying if I said we always agreed on the trends we love and the ones we wouldn’t be caught dead in. It’s true that some items unite us (like that Loewe tank or this COS dress we’ve all just gone and bought)— but mostly we each have our own personal style that works for our respective body shapes and different tastes. Sometimes our differences will ignite great debate in the office and provide inspiration for an article just like this one. Recently, when we were all discussing the summer trends we couldn’t wait to wear, as well as the ones we’d like to leave (in Y2K, mostly), there were cries of agreement as well as outrage. So we thought it would be fun to ...
Whenever awards season or fashion week rolls around, there’s one brand we always spot celebrities using to prep their skin. In fact, it’s hard to scroll through Instagram and not seeing a celebrity wearing a 111Skin sheet mask or eye mask. These signature masks are favoured by celebrities and makeup artists to help the skin glow, stat, which is why you’ll often see models wearing them backstage before a show, or celebrities wearing them for key calendar occasions such as Cannes or the Emmys. But what makes them so popular? The hydro-gel and bio-cellulose sheet masks make a quick fix for special occasions when you might not be able to squeeze a facial into your itinerary. There are several types to choose from which all have high-potency ingredien...
