Rua Carlota is at the centre of the conscious fashion revolution. The London-based brand sources clothes that are destined for landfill and transforms them into colourful patchwork knitwear that sells out in minutes. Each piece is handmade by founder Charlotte Rose Kirkham who was previously selling secondhand clothes, until she asked herself: “What is happening to all of the pieces that aren’t interesting and don’t fit this curated aesthetic?” Since going viral on Instagram in 2020, Rua Carlota has been driven to change people’s perspective on waste culture. The brand’s spring project with Cadbury Creme Egg is a milestone for the designer who tells POPSUGAR that it inspired her to come out of her comfort zone, and approach her design process with a fres...
Global superstar, Maluma, continues to ride a wave of accomplishments in 2022, announcing his new Royalty by Maluma “King and Queen” fragrance collection. With his first range of fragrances, the singer-songwriter has created a group of sensual scents for both men and women, highlighting a different gemstone for each offering. Out of the four-piece luxury set, there are two scents for men – “Onyx” and “Garnet” – and two scents for women – “Jade” and “Amethyst.” Inspired by childhood memories of wearing his father’s colognes, the Onyx Eau de parfum has notes of cardamom, pear and bergamot, while the Garnet scent has aromatic lavender and baie rose. The women’s fragrances are both Eau de parfum’s and contain blackcurrant, jasmine and tangerine, respectively. Speaking to the origin of the new ...
There are certain style cliches that are attached to certain fashion weeks—for example, London being regarded as ‘eclectic’ or Parisians having a penchant for ‘timeless’ style—and while these notions are grounded in some truth, they are not the whole picture. Street style as a phenomenon has certainly evolved a great deal since its infancy, and over time it has shifted the industry’s power dynamics and introduced different perspectives to our screens. There is no longer a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to the style profiles of different cities. This season’s Milan street style shots perfectly speak to the sheer variety that fashion-lovers bring to their own personal catwalks at fashion...
This week, for Saint Laurent’s A/W 22 runway show during Paris Fashion Week, it wasn’t David that VB had on her arm. Instead, she was accompanied by her son Romeo in what has to be one of the chicest mother-son dates in history. Now, I could break down Romeo Beckham’s ensemble, which, in case you were wondering, consisted of a sparkly, pastel-pink knit and acid-wash jeans—a combination that, on paper, shouldn’t work but Romeo was able to pull off. That’s those Beckham genes at play. As impressive as his look may have been, however, it was Victoria’s look that my colleagues and I couldn’t take our eyes off of. Zoë Kravitz arrived at “The Batman” premiere in New York and certainly dressed the part as Catwoman. Kravitz, who plays the character Selina Kyle alongside Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, wore a custom Oscar de la Renta dress with the silhouette of two black cats at the bust. Kravitz’s dress draws the perfect line between camp and elegant. The custom floor-length, strapless black gown features a plunging keyhole at the bust that goes straight down to her navel. The opening at the bust is fastened by corset-inspired lacing, and the silhouette of each kitty is perfectly positioned over each breast. Eagle-eyed fashion critic and Instagram account Diet Prada quickly spotted Oscar de la Renta’s design reference thanks to research done by vintage expert Cherie Balch of S...
The sun is shining (at least, it is while I type this), and temperatures have reached double figures: At the risk of jinxing it, let’s talk about spring outfits. I’ve been in spring mode for a while, but with the weather finally taking a turn, now seems like the perfect time to really start breaking down outfit trends we can expect from 2022. With the burden of layers almost behind us, I’m turning my attention to the pieces that’ll help make my existing wardrobe feel more current and on-point for spring. By now, I expect you’ve already brushed up on your fashion knowledge by consulting our seasonal trend report (if you haven’t, take a moment to get up-to-speed—I’ll wait). Now, while the runway trends are undoubtedly important and w...
When it comes to choosing a nail design for any upcoming salon appointment I might have, it’s safe to say I get overwhelmed. The truth is, there is just too much choice. I’m the sort of person that struggles to choose a shade of polish from the wheel, let alone settle on a particular nail art design. And I have made many nail mistakes as a result of this indecisiveness, trust me. Unless I already have a clear idea of how I want my nails to look when I walk out of the salon, it’s almost certain that I will get flustered, feel conscious that I’m taking too long to decide and eventually make a rash decision that I will regret. (I’m still trying to rid my memory of the time I decided to get a shimmering white gel manicure in the midst of fake tan season.) To avoid such regrets, I no...
Rihanna’s maternity outfits have been a hot topic on the WhatsApp group I share with my closest friends of late. I can’t speak from experience—pregnancy isn’t something I’ve experienced first-hand—but almost all of my friends who have carried a child have told me that one thing they didn’t necessarily expect was how their changing shapes and self-image affected their personal style. Each confided in me how they didn’t feel like themselves when it came to maternity dressing, subsequently defaulted to elastic waistband jeans and printed wrap dresses. Let it be known, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with elastic waistband jeans and printed wrap dresses, but if those pieces don’t fit in with your pre-pregnancy aesthetic, I can understand how it might feel as though you’re losing part of ...
If I told you that I found the perfect pair of high-street platform shoes, I would guess that Russell & Bromley wouldn’t be the first place that springs to mind. Historically, it has been known for its well-made, classic shoe offering, but recently, the brand has branched out into more fashion-savvy styles. Think chunky boots, strappy heels and animal-print loafers. We’re so into it. The brand’s latest venture? Platform heels. Coming in pink, cream, black and silver, Russell & Bromley’s fittingly named Flawless style is honestly one of the best platforms I’ve seen on the high street this year. By day six, I felt confident enough to give a clean-girl beauty look my all. I combined all of the above tests and trials to execute what I think is a pretty good clean-girl look. Is it easy and low-maintenance? No. As you can tell, this took me six days to get right, with a lot of mistakes made along the way. And yes, while this looks wonderful for a quick snap or video, the truth is, the makeup has zero staying power. A dewy base really does require some sort of holding primer or setting spray (which does risk dulling the finish). By the end of day six, I looked nothing like the fresh-faced woman I was first thing. What I have learned about clean-girl beauty is that it likely takes a village. The celebs we see sporting it day in and day out have makeup teams on hand t...

If I could be any animal, I would without a doubt be a hermit crab. Much like the solitude crustacean, I too find great joy in curling up at home and, if I had the chance, would love to live permanently in such a state. Sadly for me, my job as a beauty editor requires quite a lot of running around from appointment to appointment, and so it’s not very often I find myself with masses of time at home. However, it’s because of this that I have developed a penchant for buying items that really level up my time at home. More specifically, I have become somewhat obsessed with buying and collecting luxury scented candles. The first thing I do when I get home is light a candle. I want my entire flat to be filled with a luxurious, mind-soothing aroma. You Deserve to Make Money Even When yo...
