Although the material has roots in the ’70s, French women are giving their corduroy staples a modern feel, wearing them in fresh new ways. Take Julie Sergent Ferreri, whose bright-pink corduroy suit was one of the sleekest looks we clocked during Paris Fashion Week. And Franny Fyne? She makes her classic tan corduroy blazer feel bang-up-to-date with the addition of crisp ecru denim and on-trend cowboy boots. Throw in a look from Camille Charrière that involves a corduroy miniskirt and a leather jacket, and it’s clear that corduroy is an integral part of the current French wardrobe. Scroll on to see six French-girl corduroy outfits that have convinced us to dig out our long-forgotten corduroy pieces once more. Don’t worry, however, if you haven’t alrea...
Kate Middleton‘s sister Pippa never needed an introduction again after that bridesmaid dress, but now there’s yet another chic member of the family to keep an eye on. In September, Alizee Thevenet married Kate and Pippa’s brother, James Middleton, and she has a cool, relaxed kind of style that I think you’ll love. Thevenet is French, works as a finance director in London, and from the looks of her Instagram, happily co-parents James’s five dogs. How cute are they? Thevenet and Middleton recently attended a carol service at Westminster Abbey hosted by the Duchess of Cambridge. For the royal affair, Thevenet stayed true to her French roots and wore a suit by Sèzane, an affordable Paris-based brand. The label has long been my favorite for und...
Any outfit that takes less than 30 seconds to style is a total miracle in our book. Last year, it was all about the chunky-boots-and-jeans aesthetic, which, when worn with a shacket, became the fail-safe outfit option for winter walks and outdoor socialising. This year, however, there’s a new ensemble proving a hit amongst those in the know, one that’s just as easy to re-create. A couple of weeks ago, our editors came together to share their favourite winter outfits. That was when we realised many of us were wearing the same look on repeat. Although all of our colleagues have their own unique sense of style and tend to gravitate towards different things, we agreed that slip skirts and jumpers are where it’s at right now. Offering just the right amount of polish ...
It is now officially very cold, and so a reliable winter coat is an absolute essential. While a MaxMara or Totême coat will always be my dream purchase, I’ve been really impressed by some of the tailored wool coats that have been on offer on the high street recently. The key to an expensive-looking coat really is the silhouette. Think oversized, falling on the ankles and with plenty of room on the body so you can layer it over a chunky knit. There are four high-street coats in particular that really stand out right now and all have this structure in either ecru, grey or navy. My favourite is a stone-coloured overcoat from & Other Stories, closely followed by a black-and-white chevron-print coat from Zara. If you’re still on the great coat hunt, keep scrolling to see ...
Zendaya‘s stylist Law Roach is such a master of his craft. For the Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere in Los Angeles, Zendaya arrived in a slinky spiderweb-covered slip dress that looked like it was hanging on by a thread. The dress complemented her costar Tom Holland‘s sleek double-breasted suit, with the couple matching in Louboutin footwear. Zendaya‘s beige, lace slip dress covered in black beaded spiderweb embroidery is a custom design by Valentino. Roach completed the look with sparkling, black pointed-toe Louboutin heels, jewels by Bulgari, and a black lace masquerade mask. Zendaya’s straight back braids, navy blue eyeliner, and wine-red tipped manicure added subtle texture and colour to her outfit and the overall “spider theme”. Holland matched his ...
While we will always make time for extroverted outerwear and statement-making accessories, when it comes to basics, less is often more. Just think of base layers like leggings, underwear and hoodies: More often than not, you just want these items to do their jobs with minimal fuss. Of course, we still want a nod to good design, but it has to be paired with functionality. Gilly Hicks is totally on-point in this regard, delivering hard-working staples season after season in versatile silhouettes and appealing colourways. There’s a saddening sort of déjà vu around the social-distancing hokey-cokey that we’re experiencing this December, but if you’re like me, then no matter what the rest of the festive season looks like, you’ll be taking any opportunity to don your glad rags. Only this weekend, I had a few friends round for dinner, and I relished the chance to slip on my new heels with a party top and jeans. I’ve also started looking ahead to New Year’s Eve and planning how many sequinned items I can get away with in one outfit. (Answer: The limit does not exist.) So whether you’re heading out for Christmas cocktails or making the best of Zoom work drinks, I’ve found party pieces to sate your appetite. You Deserve t...
With luxury purchases how do you decide what to spend more on? Even though I see the Hermes craze everywhere, that style of that bag is not me and I won’t rock it. If I could afford it I’d buy two as investment pieces and keep them in their box, but that boxy style of bag is not me. So it comes down to how much will you wear it. What I have learned is now I’m older and have a little more money to spare, is that clothes of that ilk are investment pieces. The Gucci shirt I’m wearing I have no doubt my kids can wear this if they want to. It’s not going anywhere. When I’m buying into that fast fashion rotation, because you’ve only spent £10 for that bodysuit you are more likely to be like ‘that is so last season.’ Nothing vexes my spirit more than Zara hauls. I want Zara hauls to die. Now! Dea...
The dress, which Francesca Saffari has already (and cleverly!) snapped up, features every key component that I look for in a dress. Boasting a midi-length hem, a nipped-in waist, a high neckline, puff sleeves, a gorgeous colour, and a sublime satin material, put simply, this is the perfect dress for Christmas and New Year. But that’s not to say that its charm will fade at the stroke of midnight on December 31. From styling it with headbands and heels for weddings to dressing it down with chunky boots and a shacket for weekend brunches, I have big plans for this M&S dress in 2022. If you think there’s a place for it in your future, too, follow the link to shop it below before it sells out. Then, continue on to see the other excellent dresses M&S...
You can’t possibly go wrong with a statement lip colour, especially when you fancy keeping the rest of your makeup quite simple. A red lip is a timeless classic when it comes to makeup looks and does a great job at making any party makeup super effortless. My usual shade of choice is either a red or a pinky-brown, as I find these shades really complement my full lips. A couple of tips I recommend when going for a bold lip include using a lip liner to help with the lasting power of any lipstick and picking a shade you feel comfortable in. A red, for example, doesn’t have to be super bold. You can always opt for something that’s a little more toned-down. Another lip finish that I think is great for the party season is a shade with a shimmery finish. I find th...
