If all goes to plan, we will be making up for lost time this party season with the first office parties, New Year’s Plans and friends get togethers we’ve had since 2019. All that time in sensible clothing is making us crave sequins, feathers and all things shiny. It might feel a little early to be thinking about your December outfits, but now is in fact the best time to shop for party pieces or start reserving looks you’d like to borrow from rental sites. Below we’ve charted five trends that we think you’ll see at every celebration this year. We have been careful to pick looks that are timeless, so you can wear them for many more Christmases to come and feel truly fabulous. December is time to have fun with your outfits, and play with texture, colour and bold accessories. For those who wan...
As a shopping editor, a question I find myself being asked again and again by friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintances alike is, “What do I buy the man in my life?” I don’t like to generalise but, whether he’s your dad, brother, best friend, or significant other, they can be more difficult to shop for. Why? I can only speak from personal experience, but the men I buy presents for are a little less picky, which in turn makes shopping for them a broad prospect. This, however, makes them no-less deserving of the consideration I’d ordinarily pour into gift-buying—it just means I might have to think outside of the box. Of all the shoe trends there are each season, flat-shoe trends are the ones that always seem to come back around every few years—ballet flats, mules and brogues, for example. But perhaps the most likely style to keep coming back around over and over is loafers. We never get sick of them, and we never get rid of them when we’re cleaning out our wardrobes. Loafers are classic and cool, and there are plenty of little tweaks that brands can make to them so that they feel especially fresh. This year, it’s adding a lug sole. But flat penny loafers and the like are great, too, and they’ll never go out of style. Obviously, celebrities have different aesthetics and shoe preferences, but for one reason or another, they consistently love wearing loafers. Scroll on to ...
It’s time, people! As of today, there are 65 days until Christmas, which may seem like a lot, but that means we only have about a month until party season kicks off. Crazy, right? We know most of you are still in end-of-summer mode (wasn’t it August yesterday?), but if we’ve learned anything from working in this industry over the years, it’s that preparation pays off. Not only do you bag the best bits, but you also avoid that panicked lunch-break dash on the day of the office party, which inevitably leads to an ill-fitting sale purchase you instantly regret the next morning. No, we’re all about more considered purchases now. And since brands have begun steadily launching their party collections, we thought it was time to start rounding them up and bringing you the best bits...
British fashion brand Baukjen is being recognised as a leader in sustainable fashion at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, taking place between 31 Oct and 12 Nov. Baukjen is the first fashion brand ever to be awarded under the category Climate Neutral Now. Baukjen officially became carbon negative in 2020 after adopting a fully circular, zero-waste production model. The womenswear brand uses sustainable materials and fabrics that are biodegradable, with the options for customers to rent pieces and recycle clothes. Baukjen won the UN Global Climate Action Award under the collective House of Baukjen, alongside maternity label Isabella Oliver, with both brands using 100 percent renewable energy throughout its supply chain. “We are so proud to have won this incredible awa...
I’ve made no secret of the fact that I love sneakers. I spend a fair amount of time wearing them and own quite a few pairs. I find I nearly always turn to trainers rather than heels, which, as a fashion editor, isn’t the usual choice. And despite the fact that trainers have become way more acceptable in the fashion world, I’m probably still a bit of an outlier. Today, I want to talk about the best designer trainers. The thing is it’s actually quite hard to nail down what designer trainers are. Yes, you could just easily say sneakers created by the biggest fashion houses today, such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga. However, as a self-confessed trainer obsessive who has spoken to various experts over the years, these aren’t always the kind of s...
“Hate” is a strong word, which is why I never use it lightly. In fact, there are only two instances in which I can say it with conviction. One is regarding bananas. (I’ll never understand how anyone can eat them.) The other? Being cold. I hate being cold. However, one thing I do like is dressing for the cold. Curating an outfit for sub-zero conditions is often regarded as one of the biggest fashion dilemmas going. But with a bit of advice from yours truly, you can take on the elements with all the knack of a pro snowboarder but with all the sartorial prowess of a pro street styler. Be it a cable-knit, a roll-neck or one of Zara’s latest hits, jumpers are a winter-style given. Keep scrolling to see the unexpected but also the best cold-weather clothing...
When it comes to shoes and boots, my approach has always been finding one pair that goes with everything and wearing them until they fall apart. This is, unsurprisingly, easier said than done, but every now and then a game-changing style comes along that ticks all the boxes. This season, it was a platform pair from high-street hero Kurt Geiger. Ever since I got them, I have worn them almost every day with everything from miniskirts and jeans to midi skirts and dresses, and I get so many questions about where they are from. With every new teaser that circulates from And Just Like That‘s costume design, we are increasingly confused and intrigued. On the evening of Wednesday, 20 Oct., the digital fashion world was in a tizzy after a very camp image of Carrie Bradshaw in a head-to-toe granny-chic look took over our social feels — including a babushka scarf, pink gingham dress, and pink latex gloves — followed by a more elegant lehenga designed by Indian couture brand Falguni Shane Peacock. Spotted on the streets of New York City in front of her iconic brownstone, Carrie Bradshaw (played by ...

Leigh-Anne Pinnock was dressed as a glam ’80s barbie for her guest-judging appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK series three. Styled by London-based duo Zack Tate and Jamie Mcfarland, Pinnock wore a hand-painted Moschino dress from the designer’s spring/summer 2020 collection. Pinnock’s customised abstract print fitted dress was styled with a single pinstripe opera glove and blue ’80s stud earrings. She paired the look with Tom Ford padlock leather pumps, neutral makeup by Hila Karmand, and a wavy kinky high ponytail hairstyle by Aaron Carlo (wh...
And are there any treatment steps that you like to do, like face masks or exfoliators? Oh, I love exfoliating. I just got this new one from Drunk Elephant—it was just a little trial one that you mix in with the face wash, and it’s really lovely. Face masks I really, really love too. I have one from Ren—the Glycol Lactic Radiance treatment (£36)—and that’s kind of my guilty pleasure because it kind of hurts when I put it on [laughing]. It has a bit of a burn to it, and my face always goes really red, but in the morning, I feel really glowy. What’s the best piece of skincare advice that you’ve ever received? I think SPF was the first one that I didn’t really know about. I got a moisturiser from Kiehl’s—its Ultra Facial moisturiser (£48)—and it’s got SPF in, and ...
