When it comes to beauty “rules”, I have to come clean: Despite being a beauty editor, I don’t really have much time for them. Whether it’s skipping bold eye shadow while you’re wearing a bright lipstick, avoiding face oils if you have oily skin, or steering clear of glitter and shimmer if you’re over the age of 25—these old-fashioned takes on how you should (or more oftentimes shouldn’t) enjoy experimenting with beauty products are frankly passé. Instead, I prefer to embrace a more exuberant approach to beauty by mixing-and-matching the products that bring me joy. Sure, there might be some misses along the way but there’s fun to be found in the trial-and-error of playing with different colours and textures—despite what the...
Yes, we are aware of the fact that it’s only September, but as it’s our job to keep on the cutting edge of all things trend-related, we wanted to tell you about the jacket that has already taken over Instagram this season. Bravo, Frankie Shop. You’ve only gone and created another cult winter buy in the form of your quilted Ripstock jacket. Naturally the style sold out in record speed, but we are happy to report that it’s finally back in two chic new colourways. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. British Vogue and Tiffany & Co.’s annual Fashion and Film party was hosted at The Londoner Hotel on Monday, 20 Sept., to celebrate the physical return of London Fashion Week. Attended by Emma Raducanu, Little Simz, Malala Yousafzai, and Nicola Coughlan, the A-list lineup was just as impressive as the decadent outfits. The best-dressed Brits of the evening were certainly Jourdan Dunn, Little Simz, Rina Sawayama, and Dina Asher-Smith. Dunn wore an iridescent pink co-ordinated set by emerging London-based Korean designer Miss Sohee. Simz has perfected a chic tailored suit for the red carpet and went with a black-and-orange number for the occasion. Sawayama went for a luxe, sparkling baby blue dress from 16Arlington‘s autumn/winter 2021 collection. Asher-Smith looked epic in a ...
Ever since I became aware of my hair back in high school when I finally retired my beloved slick ponytail, I’ve lamented my fine, thin locks. And after becoming a beauty editor, it’s become my mission to find out which haircuts are best for feigning the look of fuller, thicker hair. Here’s what I’ve learned: it’s all about the optical illusions your stylist creates in addition to how you care for and maintain your cut at home. Ted Gibson is one of the most well-renowned hair stylists in the industry—which is no surprise when his client list reads like a who’s who of celebrity royalty. From Angelina Jolie and Lupita Nyong’o to Anne Hathaway and Gabrielle Union, Gibson has tended to the tresses of some of the biggest names in the busin...
We are a little biased, but London Fashion Week really does bring out the most inspiring street style sightings. Being a city already full to the brim with subcultures and countercultures that have been embraced by, and helped to shape, the fashion landscape in this country, it’s the kind of place where wearing something outside of the norm is celebrated rather than judged. Play it safe, and you may as well go play in another postcode, pal. With an elongated pause due to COVID, the arrival of LFW in all its rad-outfit glory was a joyful sight to behold. Those in attendance kindly brought out the new-season big guns no matter what the weather held—a factor that is always less reliable than the week prior in sunny NYC but actually provides a pro...
There are many things we’re looking to leave behind us after the pandemic, but our obsession with interiors isn’t one of them. For many of us, our homes became our places of work as well as our havens of rest. As such, it’s understandable that elevating our spaces was a huge priority. Still, that doesn’t mean that your quest to achieve interior nirvana needs to be over. With each passing season, fresh interior trends emerge, and that’s certainly the case right now. With our interest piqued, we decided to ask those in the know what they think the best big 2021 interior trends will be. We consulted Charmaine White, founder and interior designer at The White House Interiors; Matthew Tranter, founder of architectural a...
For 2021, my aim is to be as self-disciplined as possible when it comes to trends. While I think designers should keep pushing towards a more timeless approach to design that prioritises longevity, it can be too easy to demonise the concept of trends as a whole. Ultimately, reinvention is what makes fashion so exciting. The key is to just focus on styles that remain true to your personal style and that don’t run the risk of being worn once and then discarded. With this lens in place, I’ve been passing my eye over the trends that are coming up for autumn/winter 2021 and making a shortlist of styles that I feel will slip into my pre-existing wardrobe with ease. My first point of call? The waistcoat. You Deserve to Make Money ...
London Fashion Week is back for physical events, showroom appointments, and the best of the city’s street style. At the spring/summer 2022 shows, attendees were spotted in bold prints and colourful outfits to celebrate the return of the catwalks. From the best of LFW street style, we handpicked nine fashion trends that showgoers are loving. It seems Bridgerton and The Queen’s Gambit had more of a sartorial effect on us than we realised. According to London’s style set, corsets and check prints are here to stay well into spring 2022. Attendees are also keen on blazers, tailored trousers, and statement leather pieces. Blazers and chinos lend themselves to a corporate aesthetic that signals a return to the office. And statement leather pieces, like slick trousers, a smart pe...
I love a good suit. An alternative to the traditional cocktail dress, I love opting for tailored pieces for weddings and other formal events. However, come summertime, I’m a pretty big advocate for going trouser-less. This is why I’m such a fan of the trend that celebs like Dua Lipa and Jennifer Lopez just can’t stop wearing on the red carpet: the tuxedo dress. The perfect marriage of a suit and minidress, tuxedo dresses are essentially just elongated tuxedo jackets or blazers and are sometimes cinched at the waist. They’re a surefire way to look polished for any occasion. What I love most about them is their versatility. They look great paired with towering sandals or pumps, but they can just as easily be paired with any of 2021’s sneaker trends for a casual yet eleva...
To start with, it’s important to really understand your skin type—something which can be genuinely confusing to the uninitiated. Simply speaking, the skin is usually broken down into four key categories: oily, sensitive, dry and normal (lucky you). If you’re not entirely sure which category you fall into, you can conduct a little bathroom experiment of your own to find out. Cleanse your face, wait a few minutes and then follow this rule of thumb as a rough guide as to your skin type: If your skin feels like you could skip the moisturiser and is already looking shiny, you’re oily. If your skin looks red and feels irritated, you’re sensitive. If the skin feels uncomfortable and tight, you’re dry, and if you’re feeling pretty good, your skin is probably nor...
TV’s (and now streaming’s) biggest night is here—the Emmys. While last year’s show was mostly virtual, this one is in person, but it’s not exactly like past shows. The guest list is smaller, with just nominees and a certain number of guests, and there’s a limited red carpet. Even though it’s a smaller red carpet, hey, at least we get one! As we’ve seen with both the VMAs and Met Gala, everyone seems to be turning it up even more, perhaps to make up for lost time. We’re not mad about that. While we love to see what everyone’s wearing, we’re equally excited about the makeup looks. Granted, the Emmys might be a little bit more subdued than the VMAs and Met Gala, but there were some dramatic and showstopping beauty looks thi...
While most of us are still desperately clinging to the final weeks of summer, industry experts have their sights firmly set on the season ahead as they make their predictions for the biggest autumn trends in the worlds of beauty and fashion. And with so many trending hairstyles emerging in 2021 already, I was particularly keen to find out what’s in store for our strands as we head into autumn. “In summer, we all love to experiment with our hair, trying out different styles from braids to beachy waves and opting for shorter haircuts that are less maintenance,” says Callum Standen-May, creative stylist at Bond Shoreditch. “However, in autumn, some of us can find it difficult to find the right hairstyle or cut that wil...
