Sadly, some of these labels have been hit by the global pandemic, and as a publication, we’re doing our very best to support the talent we love in any way possible. That’s why we’ve dedicated our end-of-month shopping gallery to these independent brands. Honestly, we were spoilt for choice, and we wish we could include every brand we came across online (although that would turn into a long article), but we managed to whittle it down to 33 new season-ready pieces. Of course, we understand that many of you are tightening the purse strings right now, but we would love for you to show your support by giving your favourite independent brand some airtime on social media, posting a nice comment on its fee...
Autumn is here and so are the cosiest, cutest, and most colourful jumpers for the chilly months. We all might have our go-to knits for snuggling up every year, but it’s exciting to see our favourite designer and high street brands releasing fresh new jumpers and tons of sustainable offerings for the new season. We’re taking the best trends of 2021 and finding chic jumpers to match, like knits with adorable puff sleeves, unexpected patterns, pastel tones, or a jumper that features delicate floral details. Maybe you love a chunky oversize jumper, or something more fitted and sleek. Perhaps you’re looking for a complementary colour to complete your monochromatic looks, or are open to swapping your usual knits for an on-trend cardigan. Whichever style you fancy, we’ve g...
Before we get into things, I think it’s important to get one thing straight—frizz is not a dirty word or anything that you have to fight if you don’t want to. Over the years, I have learned to accept that my hair’s natural texture often means that a dose of frizz is guaranteed when I’m in particular climates (i.e., hot ones), and that’s more than okay. On days I want a sleeker look, I might coax my strands into more of a defined coil, other times I’ll straighten it all out, and other times I leave my hair alone to do entirely its own thing—but it’s all on my terms. On days that I want to keep frizz at bay, however, one thing is clear: Dry or chemically treated hair (or both in my case) and humidity ...
If you’ve been following my Second-Hand Shopper series, you’ll know that making vintage fashion a more integrated part of the average person’s wardrobe has become a bit of a mission for me. I know this behavioural change may take a while to shift, but if I can make just one person who was previously ambivalent about pre-loved clothing buy second-hand, then I consider my mission a success. This is also why every season over the last year, I have created an alternative trend report that is shopped out with vintage finds. Of course, as a publication, we try our best to integrate second-hand clothing into all our content. However, I wanted to carve out this space specifically to show that adopting more sustainable shopping habits doesn’t have to mean forgoing that joy a...
Last year, everyone in the know bought up AllSaints’s dresses, particularly its slip dresses that came with a thin knit over the top. (Two of our fashion friends, Monikh Dale and Jessica Skye, seemed to own the dress in every colour.) Whether you’re already on board with AllSaints’s dresses or are contemplating investing in one for the first time, you’ll be pleased to hear the brand has plenty to choose from for autumn, and has brought back its best-selling slips in a big way with a host of new colours, prints, and lengths to choose from. S This autumn, versatile frocks are up for grabs alongside a selection of the brand’s trademark leather jackets. And upon seeing both pieces worn together, we realised that this two-part outfit is not...
The best trench coat is a lifelong keeper. It’s the kind of trusty wardrobe staple you know is ready and waiting whenever you need it, but it doesn’t vie for your attention at all times (or get upset when you shove it to the back of the rail for a few months). It took me a long time to find my holy grail of outerwear. My perfect trench coat arrived early in 2015 when Finery launched, and I scooped up the double-face crêpe trench the brand continues to riff on today. I still dig it out every autumn, and it’s already made a 2021 appearance or two. It’s a weighty fabric in a flattering fit with a slight ‘70s vibe and an overall finish that looks way beyond its high-street price tag. You Deserve to Make Money Even When ...
As a fashion editor, I get such a thrill discovering fresh trends. That said, when it comes to my personal wardrobe, my offering tends to skew on the simple side with a hefty assortment of basics. When I do go for it a bit more, it’s usually in the form of statement accessories. With all that in mind, I thought I’d bring you a curation of the specific basics I think could be true sartorial heroes in a wardrobe. If I’m being totally honest, I’d probably skip every new trendy item coming out in honor of the pieces coming your way. I just couldn’t give them up and truly think they are the backbone of a modern wardrobe. They’re all extremely versatile and could be styled in so many different ways. Keep scrolling to check out my favorite wardrobe basics right...
It’s no secret that the fashion industry is in dire need of change when it comes to improving its sustainability credentials. Of course, sustainable fashion is a hugely complex issue that won’t be fixed overnight, but as a fashion editor, I’ve felt inspired by the e-commerce platforms stepping up their game and introducing initiatives that champion more sustainable brands. In the world of high fashion, NET-A-PORTER’s NET SUSTAIN edit has become our go-to for brands both big and small that are bringing about change. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. So we reimagined what a dating should be. It begins with giving you back power. Stepping into an actual changing room still feels like a novelty after years of online shopping, so this month, to celebrate the reopening of shops, we are attempting a try-on-athon. We will be going into several changing rooms to road-test new autumn trends and give you our honest takes on the items that are actually worth investing in. On the high street, there are three stores that really excel when it comes to autumn dressing, and it’s no coincidence that they are all Scandinavian and have mastered the art of layering. I went into COS, Arket and & Other Stories to try on the new autumn collections and focused on easy-to-style staples that will make up a clever autumn capsule. I found an incredible trench coat, dresses you can wear now and later and so many beautiful card...
China-based fast fashion retailer SHEIN is not shy of controversy. The brand known for cheap dupes of the latest fashion trends is launching a design competition series with YouTube. Airing on Sunday, 22 Aug., the SHEIN X 100K “Be Bold, Be You” challenge will be judged by a panel of Khloé Kardashian, Zendaya‘s stylist Law Roach, fashion designer Christian Siriano, LOVESEEN founder Jenna Lyons (previously creative director at J.Crew), and InStyle magazine’s style director Laurel Pantin. The SHEIN X 100K “Be Bold, Be You” challenge invites emerging designers to compete for $100,000 (£73,000) and a trip to LA for one-on-one mentorship with the judging panel. The Be Bold, Be You series features four episodes that will air weekly on Sundays from 22 Aug. to 12...
First rule of autumn? You can never go wrong with a pair of black boots. After all, they are the ultimate every-season shoe. From the cooler months to the festive season and well into spring and summer, a classic black boot is always in style. The amount of gorgeous black boots available online is literally endless, so we’ve narrowed down the best options by price and shape. Some of our favourite boot styles for autumn 2021 are: classic Chelsea boots, sleek ankle boots, fun chunky boots, retro platform boots, ’60s knee highs, sexy over-the-knee boots, and lace-up combat boots. We’re especially loving the offerings from cool mid-range brands Miista, Ganni, and Vince, while more affordable options from & Other Stories, Mango, and Urban Outfitters are simply gorgeous. Pr...
While most of us are still desperately clinging to the final weeks of summer, industry experts have their sights firmly set on the season ahead as they make their predictions for the biggest autumn trends in the worlds of beauty and fashion. And with so many trending hairstyles emerging in 2021 already, I was particularly keen to find out what’s in store for our strands as we head into autumn. “In summer, we all love to experiment with our hair, trying out different styles from braids to beachy waves and opting for shorter haircuts that are less maintenance,” says Callum Standen-May, creative stylist at Bond Shoreditch. “However, in autumn, some of us can find it difficult to find the right hairstyle or cut that wil...
