Being a fashion editor is selfless work. Okay, I jest, but it can be difficult, particularly when you’re trying not to buy anything new. Still, seeing the sheer volume of clothes, shoes, bags, and accessories that I do every week means I come across more pieces that I love than I would if I held some other profession. Usually, I can harness enough willpower to scroll on by, but there’s one, or, should I say, two, items that I currently can’t get out of my head. Last month, I was given a sneak peek at Mango’s new summer drop, during which I clocked a near-perfect co-ord. The set—a black crop top and matching maxi skirt, each complete with on-trend waist ties—has been living in my mind rent-free ever since. Try as I may, I just keep going over how...
There’s no denying that temperatures have been slow to climb this season, but we’re not going to let a little thing like the British weather get us down. In fact, we’re embracing summer with open (puff-sleeved) arms—particularly where our wardrobes are concerned. But what exactly are we supposed to wear in July when it’s glorious sunshine one minute then grey skies the next? After trawling through the Instagram accounts of our favourite influencers, we managed to come up with eight looks that are ideal for any sort of weather July might throw at us. From the ultimate cool-girl cover-up for chilly evenings to the It dress that’ll serve you well in the park and at the bar, there are plenty of ideas you’ll want to copy immediately. Consider t...
When it comes to brunch, my feelings about the occasion are simple: It should be enjoyed at any given opportunity. I would brunch every day if I could (preferably with a mimosa in hand). However, there is something quite lovely about keeping brunch as a treat, especially when it presents you with a reason to wear an outfit you love. Deciding what to wear to brunch has a lot of variables. You want to look stylish, that’s a given, but you also want to be comfortable, particularly if you’re having a brunch of the bottomless variety. That said, because you’ll spend most of your time sitting, you don’t necessarily need to think about the practicality of your look. In fact, brunch might give you the chance to wear the more fanciful clothes, shoes and accessories in your w...
Known for its minimalist aesthetic and elevated offering, Cos has long been a favourite amongst the fashion set. And from long smocked gowns to sleek staples, this summer the brand’s collection has certainly captured the attention of industry insiders and influencers across the UK and Europe. High on the list of It-items would be the brand’s pleated T-shirt dress in a subtle shade of dusty blue. The dress has already been worn by @Thandimaq, but is also on the wish-list of several editors at Who What Wear (myself included). Another trending item amongst its ever-growing repertoire of chic summer-ready essentials is the brand’s colour-pop ribbed vest which is just perfect for beachside stroll or days spent a...
Having spent years training myself in the art of trend-hunting and It item–spotting, I could say confidently that I’m certain Dr. Martens boots are more popular than ever. In 2019, the heritage footwear brand reported double-digit growth (revenue stacks up now to a pretty cool £454.4 million—NBD), and that translates very visibly into just how often I spot girls wearing Docs on the pavements of my home city of London as well as on my Instagram feed, within celebrity echelons and in street style galleries. Image Source: Jose Villa You’ve gotten engaged, set a date, and shared the news with your family and friends. Now, the real fun begins — it’s time to start looking for a wedding dress. Perhaps you’re just starting to think about your bridal look or maybe you have been dreaming about layers of organza for a few decades now, but one thing’s certain: with lockdown lifted, expectations for the shopping experience are once again at an all-time high. There will be bubbles, gasps, and that special moment where you stand in front of the mirror and let out a giddy sigh, content in knowing you have found the one. Except when you call the bridal shop, you’re told that thanks to COVID, they’re booked six months in advance. When you do finally get in and try on the s...
Hey, besties, have you downloaded TikTok yet? If not, I certainly don’t blame you. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve accidentally stayed up way past my bedtime scrolling down my FYP. If you spend time on the app or read about its buzziest fashion and beauty moments here on Who What Wear, then you’ve likely noticed that TikTok all but dictates trends across fashion, beauty, and everything in between. And right now, there are some unexpected hair trends taking off that we didn’t see coming. We’re no strangers to hair trends and in fact, we spend a ton of time consulting our favorite celebrity hairstylists for the tea on what’s set to take off next. But the beauty of TikTok is that it only takes one adventurous user with a ...
Years ago, Birkenstocks were very much considered fashion outliers. But over the past few years, they’ve exploded in popularity. After some extensive googling, I can confidently say that it was 2018 when the ultimate “ugly” sandals truly became accepted in fashion circles, which meant Birkenstocks suddenly started appearing everywhere. Of course, it’s more than that. There have been cool, high-profile collaborations with fashion brands such as Proenza Schouler and Rick Owens that have also piqued interest for insiders and shoppers alike. And during the pandemic, these shoes have become the most sought-after in the world. Global fashion shopping platform Lyst marked them out as the second most-searched-for item in 2020. Although the...
Shopping mindfully is becoming a priority for many of us. We know this to be the case from conversations in our Facebook group So… Should I Buy This? As such, instead of investing in a new dress or full-blown outfit every time we find ourselves in a wardrobe rut, we’re continuously on the lookout for small updates to refresh our looks. Perhaps the easiest update of them all is a well-chosen hair accessory. When it comes to hair accessories, it’s easy to gravitate towards what you know or pieces you may have tried in the past. Alice bands made a comeback a handful of seasons ago, bringing with them a dose of nostalgia that’s hard to resist, and they are still proving prevalent in fashion circles. That said, there is a host of other trendy hair accessories that have emerged si...
Shops are brimming with summer dresses right now. So many, in fact, that the selection can be overwhelming. Where can you find a pick of the best? Right here, of course. Not only have we done our research in terms of key trends for summer, but we’ve also found styles you’ll be wearing way beyond this season. These are frocks you’ll be able to pull out in 2023 and still be smug about how great they are. As a beauty editor, I’ve seen a lot of trends that have caused me to raise a cynical eyebrow over the years—including but not exclusive to LED masks, snail slime and cryotherapy. But one trend I’ve always been really dubious about is eye patches. I’m not the biggest fan of sheet masks anyway, so I kind of put eye patches in the same category. Sure, they might feel like a fun, self-care ritual, but I wouldn’t reach for them if I wanted an efficacious product that would create a noticeable change in my skin. Then I re-entered society, post-lockdown 2.0. With sunny days spent at the park with rosé, friends, more rosé and way less sleep than I’d been getting before, I was waking up post-weekend with puffy bags and dark circles under my eyes. Despite ...
