If you’re suddenly finding yourself in need of a throw-on summer dress, we believe one of the best places to go is H&M for affordable but expensive-looking pieces. Whether you want something long and dramatic or mini with cut-outs, H&M has lots of beautiful casual dresses to choose from. The only thing to note about a good H&M dress is it tends to sell out pretty quickly, so we can’t guarantee that the 16 below will be around for long. There are several details that the brand is leaning into for summer 2021, including double spaghetti straps, oversized puff sleeves, open backs with criss-cross straps and smocked bodices. Whether you’re the bride, a bridesmaid, or a wedding guest, we can all agree on one thing: the big day is expensive. Thanks to a slew of midluxury brands that have broken into the bridal market, we no longer have to spend a fortune on the gown. It’s possible to find your dream dress at a price that is well under £1,000, and we’re here to help. Net-a-Porter has a great selection of affordable and stylish wedding dresses — especially from brands like Les Reveries and Vanessa Cocchiaro. You can also find fabulous, reduced designer bridal gowns in Net’s sale section or on The Outnet. And we’re absolutely loving the new bridal sections at Reformation, Ghost, and Kitri. If you’re thinking of going in a more eco-friendly route, then why not get a vintage or sec...
Reformation‘s aesthetic is romantic and feminine with a vintage touch. Their beautiful editorial photography and classic designs have captured the interest of a whole generation of women, but it’s their commitment to sustainable and ethical manufacturing that keeps us coming back. Since Reformation came on the scene a decade ago, it has become the go-to brand for cool girls everywhere. Celebs like Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Emily Ratajkowski can’t get enough of their timeless pieces. Reformation‘s impact on the industry has not only helped make sustainable fashion sexy, but it’s also inspired an influx of midluxury brands that are founded and run by women. Retailers like Réalisation Par, Rouje, Oresund Iris, and Rat & Boa (to name a few) are catering to a s...
Don’t judge me, but I currently have a tab open on Net-a-Porter with a pair of cycling shorts poised to be added to the checkout basket. I didn’t think I’d be that person who wants to wear those stretchy pants, but thanks to this trend’s proliferation across social media since last summer, I’ve finally been worn down. Of course, the OG of this trend is Princess Diana, and I’m not the only one who’s been inspired by the late royal. According to Google Trends, this month has seen a spike in searches for “cycling shorts.” If there was any doubt that this is about fashion and not about hopping on an actual bike, the term “Princess Diana cycling shorts” is a breakout trend for the month, indicating that t...
Emerging from TikTok, as all good 2021 beauty trends do, the wolf cut is undoubtedly the biggest trending hairstyle of the summer. With over 380 million views of the “wolf cut” tag on the app right now, Gen Z is going wild for this choppy cut thanks to its low-maintenance feel. An amalgamation of two of summer’s other trending cuts—the mullet and the shag—the wolf cut has short layers at the front, is tapered at the back and is all about the volume up top. Be warned, though: Despite its laissez-faire appearance, this artfully dishevelled haircut does require some styling. So if your hair is naturally flat, then have your texturising sprays at the ready. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates On...
Event dressing isn’t a term we have used for the past two summers, however this week Royal Ascot is going ahead, marking the grand return to dressing up. Ascot can be difficult to dress for at the best of times, as the dress codes for attending the races are strict. In the Royal Enclosure guests must wear straps of one inch or greater, fascinators are not allowed (you must wear hats with a solid base of 10cm) and dresses must fall below the knee or longer. While these dressing regulations can at times feel a tad old-fashioned, there is something rather fabulous about putting on a formal dress and hat. Given this is a royal event, we’re bounded to spot a number of royal sightings this week. As for the trends we’ve spotted on the race course, the guests...
Ahluwalia recently collaborated with luxury brand Mulberry, to release a limited-edition capsule collection of 12 tote bags and four silk scarves. Leading the collaboration is the signature Mulberry Portobello tote, which Ahluwalia has reimagined in three different variations. The first is a series of oversized Portobello totes, followed by five regular sized ones, and three mini totes — a size that was developed specifically for the capsule. According to the release, “the collection is influenced by Ahluwalia’s fascination with hair as a means of identity, protest and expression, drawing on the designer’s mixed Nigerian-Indian heritage, both cultures in which hair holds such importance.” In order to further the collaboration, Mulberry has signed up to the Halo Code...
This week’s heatwave caught me somewhat by surprise, and made me suddenly aware of the gaps in my summer wardrobe. I haven’t bought any hot weather clothing since my last holiday over two years ago, and so have spent the last 24 hours searching for easy-to-wear sundresses, linen separates and comfortable sandals. After a few hours of browsing new-in sections, it became clear that there are three high street brands that are really excelling when it comes to a hot weather capsule—Arket, Zara and COS. Whether you like your summer clothes to be loud and adventurous or simple and classic, there’s likely to be an item for you below. Zara caters to those who want summer clothing with heaps of personality, with hot pink satin dresses, and unusual silhouettes, while Arke...
Every now and then there seems to be a contemporary brand that really captures the celebrity set’s attention. Last summer, Cult Gaia’s Serita dress was worn by Rosie HW, Hailey Beiber and a number of former Victoria’s Secret models, while the summer before Réalisation Par dresses were spotted on Kaia Gerber, Bella Hadid, Kylie Jenner and just about every other Gen Z It-girl. This summer though, I’m willing to bet that Ciao Lucia will be the brand on speed dial for the A-list’s styling crews. According to the brand’s website, the LA-based label is made “for the girl, on eternal vacation.” And even if vacation is simply a state of mind, Ciao Lucia’s summery aesthetic can bring the holiday to you, wherever you may be.&...
If the warm weather has been distracting you from your Who What Wear reading lately, this one sentence should bring you up to speed: The fashion world is losing it over linen this summer. From breezy dresses to chic trousers, linen fabrications are cropping up in every product category. However, if there’s a piece that’s proving incredibly popular, hands down, it’s the linen shorts set. A move-on from traditional suiting, linen shorts sets are summer’s answer to co-ords. Breathable and versatile, they’re a dab hand in a heatwave but also bring polish to your seasonal outfit rotation. I’m especially loving how my favourite influencers are styling theirs, whether over swimwear or jersey basics, paired with trainers or sandals. Fashion types are donnin...
If I had to sum up my ideal approach to fashion in one phrase, it would have to be ‘minimal effort, maximum impact’. I love outfits that can be thrown on and styled in no more than five minutes flat, but when you walk out the door you could fool people into thinking you spent hours putting it together. While for many people, looking good during social distancing is not always at the top of their priority list (understandably), I have found that clothes can really have a transformative effect on my mood. Personally, as I have found myself becoming better acquainted with my sofa, the minimal-effort part of dressing has definitely taken precedence. Thankfully, summer is a season that lends itself to the low-maintenance approach to dressing, as you can stic...
