Why Women Need to Embrace these 3 Digital Technologies

Over the next decade, a new wave of digital technologies is set to reshape how we live and work. It is imperative that women play an equal role in shaping their impact. Not only should the new opportunities these technologies create be open to all, it is also critical to tap into diverse experiences and perspectives to unlock their full value. Despite the steps taken towards gender equality in most industries, women remain underrepresented in information technology. Just 23% of tech jobs are held by women in South Africa, according to WomenInTech. Given the growing importance of digital tech in our day to day lives, this gender gap cannot be tolerated. Consider these stats from EY: women are predicted to lose five jobs for every job gained through automation, compared to only three for men...

Kogi guber: Governor Bello floors PDP, Musa Wada at Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the petition of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Musa Wada, against the declaration of Governor Yahaya Bello of All Progressives Congress, APC as the winner of November 16 Kogi governorship election. In the judgment delivered on their behalf by Justice Uwani Abba Aji, the seven man panel of the apex court led by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mohammed Tanko held that the appeal is devoid of merit and is accordingly dismissed in the unanimous judgement. The panel held that the petitioners abandoned their pleadings on their written briefs that the election was marred with irregularities at the lower courts. The panel therefore ruled that having failed to prove their allegations with results from the election and failed to prove that the respo...

All-Flash would Still be Cheaper, even at Twice the Price

Fred Saayman, Huawei BU Executive at Pinnacle The conversation around which is the better technology between hard disk and flash storage has been going on for years. In the data storage arena, flash arrays have been thriving, with no evidence this will slow down at any time. Hard disk drives (HDDs), on the other hand, which have been around for a lot longer are definitely seeing a slow decline in today’s technology landscape. There was a time when hard disk storage won on price alone, as flash arrays were considered extremely expensive, and there is a limit to the amount of storage any business can afford. The largest enterprises that needed a lot of capacity often went the HDD route, as these solutions were far easier on the pocket. “However, this is no longer the case. As flash technolog...

Group condemns Nnamdi Kanu for urging IPOB members to attack security operatives

Agence France-Presse/Getty Images The Good Conscience Forum (GCF) says the call by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu for his members to attack security operatives is a “significant threat to the peace and tranquility in Nigeria”. The group, in a statement signed by its National President, Dr Edwin Ogbu, on Friday urged relevant authorities to take proactive action to avoid a breakdown in law and order. Recall that the Department of State Services (DSS) had said that two of its operatives were killed on Sunday in a clash with IPOB members in Enugu State. While condemning IPOB for the attack, the group reasoned that the proscribed sect may just be carrying a plot by its paymasters. “The Good Conscience Forum is in receipt of the call by the leader of the Indig...

Mali protest movement proposes two-year transition to civilian rule

The protest coalition that campaigned against former Mali president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has proposed that the military junta that ousted him organise a transition to civilian rule within 24 months, one of its leaders said Sunday. Military rulers received representatives of the June 5 Movement at the Kati barracks near Bamako late Saturday, after announcing they would postpone a meeting with civic groups, political organisations and former rebels on the transfer of power due to “organisational reasons”. The protest movement has demanded that the military junta give it a role in the transition, in keeping with its role in spearheading Keita’s ouster. It has proposed “a transition of 18 to 24 months” with civilians heading a transitional presidency, government and assembly, one of the move...
