NHRC unveils new digital complaint platform

Wikipedia The National Human Rights Commission said on Saturday that it had unveiled a new automated complaint reporting database for reporting of various forms of human rights violations in the country. According to the commission, the “automated complaint reporting database” is “a real-time digital platform that provides citizens with opportunities to promptly report all forms of human rights violations involving civilians, security personnel”, among others. A statement by the NHRC’s Assistant Director of Public Affairs, Fatimah Mohammad, stated that the commission’s Executive Secretary, Tony Ojukwu, unveiled the platform at a webinar “following a robust partnership between the Commission and CLEEN Foundation”. Zamfara government moves against illegal miners

Zamfara state government has warned illegal miners operating in the state despite Federal Government’s ban on mining activities, to desist or face prosecution. Dr Nuruddwen Isah, the state’s Commissioner of Environment, issued the warning on Saturday when he visited one of the suspected illegal mining sites at Sauna village in Talata Mafara local government area of the state. Newsmen report that the government’s warning followed an allegation and complaint by the Director of one of the licensed mining companies, Shamsudeen Sani. The Minister of Aviation, Mr Hadi Sirika, says the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu is ready for resumption of flights. Sirika said this on Saturday in Enugu after the final round of inspection of rehabilitation works in the airport prior to the official reopening of the complex. The Federal Government had in August 2019 shut down Akanu Ibiam International Airport over security reasons. Some of the reasons include its bad runway and landing aids, the presence of market close to the airport attracting birds, leading to constant bird strikes. Mali’s military junta on Saturday postponed the first meeting on the transfer of power after rising tensions with the group that sparked the August 18 coup. 9PSB (Payment Service Bank), a subsidiary of 9mobile, says it has been granted approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to commence operations in the country. 9mobile, in a statement on Saturday, said that its *990# payment service banking platform would help drive financial inclusion in Nigeria’s ecosystem.
