African Airline Industry Lost $55 Billion from COVID-19 Lockdowns

Sourced from The African Report. Africa’s travel and tourism industry have lost $55 billion due to the closure of borders across the continent in attempts to stave off the spread of the novel coronavirus. This is according to the African Union, who says that on the continent where safaris are a powerful overseas tourism market, the sector has been crushed by hard lockdowns that sealed air, land and sea borders. “The impact is really severe,” says Amani Abou-Zeid, Commissioner for the African Union during a virtual briefing organised by the World Economic Forum and the WHO on Thursday. /* custom css */ .tdi_3_fbb.td-a-rec-img{ text-align: left; }.tdi_3_fbb.td-a-rec-img img{ margin: 0 auto 0 0; } “We are talking here about $55 billion lost within three months in a year when we were supposed ...

Nancy Sinatra: Frank Sinatra “Loathed” Donald Trump

Even dead musicians want nothing to do with Donald Trump. In response to Donald Trump’s announcement that he intends to build a “National Garden of Heroes” with statues of famous Americans including Frank Sinatra, the singer’s daughter has reminded Trump that her father “loathed him.” Replying to a tweet from Mia Farrow in which she wrote, “Frank Sinatra would have loathed Donald Trump,” Nancy Sinatra confirmed as much: “He actually did loathe him.” At least some of the bad blood between Trump and Frank Sinatra dates back to 1990, according to a recent book published by Sinatra’s manager, Elliot Weisman. Sinatra had been booked to open Trump’s Atlantic City casino, only to be informed at the last minute that Trump sought to renegotiate Sinatra’s rate. Trump also canceled his booking of Sin...

US Sunbelt mayors push back against Trump’s virus optimism

US Sunbelt mayors warned Sunday that their cities are at risk of being overwhelmed by a surge of coronavirus cases as they pushed back against US President Donald Trump’s attempt to minimize the gravity of the spreading virus. COVID-19 has been raging for weeks across southern and western states. Florida has registered 10,000 new cases on some days. Arizona has seen record hospitalizations. And intensive care units in Houston, Texas are operating near maximum capacity. With President Trump continuing to play down the disease eschewing a mask, continuing to address large gatherings, saying a vaccine is only months away and asserting that “99 percent” of cases are not serious the exasperation of local officials has begun to boil over, with some floating the idea of new stay-at-home orders. “...

4 Ways to Boost Your eCommerce Business

Sourced from IOL. South Africa’s eCommerce industry is booming as a result of retailers who were constrained from operating normally due to lockdown and safety restrictions. Now, with lockdown restrictions easing, the temptation is to throttle back on online efforts and go back to the ways of old. That would be a big mistake, believes Warrick Kernes, founder of the Insaka eCommerce Academy. “Previously the challenge with building an online store was creating a website and taking payments online or delivering a parcel overnight. Today, these challenges are largely solved, but now a new challenge has emerged due to the mass of sellers coming online,” says Kernes. /* custom css */ .tdi_3_d8f.td-a-rec-img{ text-align: left; }.tdi_3_d8f.td-a-rec-img img{ margin: 0 auto 0 0; } Here are four ways...

Kanye West Says He’s Running For President in 2020

Kanye West has long expressed an interest in running for president, though he previously said he would wait until Donald Trump was out of office. Now, though, the billionaire polymath has seemingly announced his intention to seek the presidency in 2020. “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future,” Kanye wrote in a tweeted post on Independence Day. “I am running for president of the United States! #2020Vision” Given that the election is less than four months away, and with the filing deadline for a number of states having already passed, Kanye’s path to the White House won’t be easy. Additionally, he recently agreed to become the creative director of the Gap, with plans to launch his initial product line in early 2021. How he int...

Perspective: Kanye West’s Presidential Run Would Be as a Long-Shot Write-In Candidate

If Kanye West is truly serious about running for president in 2020, he’ll likely have to do so as a write-in candidate. As Kanye will be neither the nominee of the Democrat or Republican party, he’d instead run as an independent or third party candidate. And as an independent or third party candidate, Kanye would not be guaranteed a spot on every state’s ballot: Each state has is own individual rules for getting on its ballot, including requiring a certain number of signatures. Obtaining such signatures in the middle of a pandemic would be a difficult enough proportion, but he would also have to do so in an extremely short timeframe. Each state has a deadline for filing to run for president, and several of those deadlines have already passed. It’s too late to get on the ballot in Indiana, ...
