Lagos searching for coronavirus patients who escaped after tests

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, has said they go in search of patients who go missing after their samples have been tested for COVID-19. Abayomi, speaking during a press briefing on Friday, said such patients flee their homes and cannot be reached on their mobile phone lines. According to him, this is one of the reasons the isolation centres in the states are not fully occupied. “There is also a situation that we experience; when we test people, sometimes they find it difficult to find them. The ambulances will go into communities, people will flee their homes, and they make it difficult for us to find them. “If you have tested positive, we expect you to cooperate with us and make yourself available so that you can be admitted and accessed. “Our isolation facilities are ...

Arsenal to keep Saka away from ‘hugely impressed’ Liverpool

Liverpool have a concrete interest in Bukayo Saka, claims a report, but Arsenal are unlikely to sanction a transfer even though he is nearly out of contract. The 18-year-old is out of contract at the end of next season, meaning Arsenal may have to sell him to avoid losing him on a free to a Premier League rival – with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United circling. However, it appears that the Gunners will not be selling him before his contract expires, as Football Insider claims that they are not giving up hope of convincing him to sign an extension and are prepared to take the risk of negotiating into next season. Arsenal are ready to offe...

South Sudan rivals face fresh feud over control of states

South Sudan’s main rivals were at loggerheads Friday over who will control the country’s 10 internal states, an issue that analysts and diplomats worried could jeopardise a power-sharing deal reached earlier this year. President Salva Kiir and rebel leader Riek Machar, old foes whose fallout in 2013 sparked a civil war, agreed on February to form a new government after intense international pressure to deliver lasting peace to the conflict-torn country. But while they managed to name a cabinet in March, they have yet to strike a deal on who can appoint governors to the states. On Thursday night Kiir announced a breakthrough on the state’s issue, saying his party would appoint six governors while Machar’s would appoint three. The remaining state would be governed by the South Sudan Oppositi...
