Mason Greenwood called up to Young Lions squad

Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has been selected in the latest England Under 21’s national squad ahead of the UEFA Euro Finals group stage next week. Of the 23 players selected by Young Lions manager Aidy Boothroyd, he is one of just two to have a senior international appearance to their name, alongside Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi. This came in May 2020 as Gareth Southgate brought the youngster on from the bench in a UEFA Nations League game against Iceland, after which Greenwood was sent home following a breach of COVID protocols. As well as his one senior appearance, the striker has also played four times previously for the Under 21’s including a goal in a 2-1 defeat to the Netherlands. Prior to this, he had also earned caps at both Under 18 and Under 19 levels respectively. ...

After succumbing in both of their previous home matches in the Champions League round of 16, the reigning La Liga title-holders face the prospect of losing three in a row for the first time in the club’s history. Stakes are high for both teams as they prepare to trade tackles at the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium. Real Madrid Preview Los Blancos have only failed to progress from one of their last nine Champions League knock-out ties in which they won the first leg away from home. Zinedi...

Arsenal hold talks to sign 21-year-old Bundesliga defender valued at £19m

Arsenal are considering a move for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan N’Dicka during the summer transfer window, a report from The Express claims. The Gunners have had a disappointing Premier League campaign and are presently languishing in the 10th spot in the standings. One of their main concerns has been the lack of consistency in the backline and it is reported that the club are eyeing a new centre-back. N’Dicka has caught the eye with his impressive performances for Frankfurt, who are currently fourth in the Bundesliga table. The 21-year-old has played on the left side of a back three and it is claimed that he could be available for around £19 million this summer. The north London giants have reportedly made contact with his agent Michael N’Cho Ibou, who previously helped broker N...

Mikel Arteta provides injury update on Bukayo Saka after north London derby win

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided an injury update on Bukayo Saka following the club’s 2-1 comeback win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday. The Gunners were the dominant side from the start of the game, but fell behind after a stunning rabona strike from substitute Erik Lamela in the 33rd minute. They managed to level the scores prior to the break through Martin Odegaard before Alexandre Lacazette netted the winner from the penalty spot in the 64th minute. Saka was the subject of plenty of challenges during the opening half of the north London derby and he did not turn up after the interval. It was quite evident that he was carrying some kind of injury and following the game, Arteta revealed that the forward was ‘feeling his hamstring’. He told Arsenal.com: “We ...

Predicted Liverpool starting XI: Klopp to make just one change; 26-year-old to start

Liverpool will travel to Molineux to face Wolves in the Premier League on Monday night. After earning a morale-boosting 2-0 win over RB Leipzig (and an aggregate 4-0), the Reds will be looking to translate that form in the Premier League. Jurgen Klopp’s side have been very disappointing in the league, but they can still turn it around by putting up a string of wins. The Reds have picked up just one win from their last seven Premier League games, losing six times at their home turf, Anfield. Klopp admitted in the press conference that progressing in the Champions League can help them regain their confidence, and they will be encouraged by the return of Fabinho in midfield. Roberto Firmino – who missed the game against RB Leipzig – could return against Wolves, while there are no fresh injury...

Manchester United edge West Ham 1-0 at Old Trafford

Manchester United beat West Ham United 1-0 at Old Trafford courtesy of a second-half Craig Dawson own goal to reclaim the second spot in the Premier League table. Dawson inadvertently glanced the ball into his own net from a United corner in the 62nd minute, and the Hammers were unable to find a way back into the game.  Coming into the match, United had slipped to third in the league table following an impressive 5-0 victory for Leicester at home to managerless Sheffield United earlier on in the day. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made four changes to his starting line-up from Thursday night’s Europa League draw against AC Milan. The Norwegian opted to bring in Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelöf and Fred along with Marcus Rashford, who sat out Thursday’s game through a minor injury. Anthony Mar...

‘We don’t need to sell’: Former Leeds star misses the point about in-demand winger

Rarely a day goes by in football without at least one pundit spouting some nonsense or other. Former Leeds forward Noel Whelan is the latest ‘expert’ to join the list with his comments to Football Insider about Raphinha. The 24-year-old has been linked with Manchester United and Liverpool in recent weeks, but Whelan has claimed he will not be sold. “They don’t need to do anything – he’s under contract for four years,” he said. “All he needs to do is just keep playing his game. What Leeds United need to do is stay strong. It’s what they will do because they’re building their team around these sort of players. “They’re not for sale, that’s just the way it is. We’re not a Brentford, we don’t need to sell. The club’s in a really healthy state. “We own the football club again, we own the stadiu...

Arsenal win North London derby despite Lamela stunner

Arsenal came from behind to defeat Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby on Sunday. It was a quiet first 30 minutes, with Mikel Arteta’s side enjoying the bulk of the possession. Emile Smith Rowe hit a 25-yard cracker off the bar before teeing up Alexandre Lacazette, who sliced wide. By contrast, Spurs offered very little going forward and lost forward Heung-min Son to an injury early on. However, the visitors took the lead against the run of play with a moment of pure magic. Lucas Moura teed up substitute Erik Lamela, who pulled out a rabona into the far corner. Arsenal continued to dominate the rest of the half, providing most of the threat down the left. They came close to equalising through full-back Cedric Soares, who crashed a shot off the post from Smith Rowe’s cutback. Just b...

‘I always followed Chelsea’: Former Leeds target sets sights on dream move

Brescia striker Florian Aye has set his sights on an ambitious move to Chelsea. The 24-year-old is currently playing in Serie B with Brescia, but his recent form has sparked rumours that he could be heading elsewhere this summer. A run of eight goals in seven straight league games is an impressive achievement, and Aye is hoping that his efforts won’t go unnoticed. “I dream of playing for Chelsea and winning a title like the Premier League or the Champions League,” he told So Foot. “Sometimes, I even think about it in the middle of the day. When I was little, my father bought me Arjen Robben’s shirt. “I always followed Chelsea, my favourite player Didier Drogba went there – I think that only strengthened my attachment to the club.” SL View While Aye’s ambition is admirable, it is doubtful t...
