Newcastle United were held to a 2-2 draw against Southampton in the Premier League yesterday. The home side took the lead through Callum Wilson on the 55th minute but the visitors got back into the contest twenty minutes later. Allan Saint-Maximin seemed like he had won the game with his 91st-minute goal but Southampton were awarded a penalty deep into injury time and James Ward-Prowse dispatched it efficiently to secure a point for the visitors. The Magpies will be bitterly disappointed to have dropped two points right at the end of the game and Saint-Maximin took to Twitter to apologise to the Newcastle fans. The 24-year-old winger tweeted that the players did their best to win the game but it was not to be. We did our best… Im sorry guys — Allan Saint-Maximin (@asaintmaximin) August 28,...
West Ham United were held to a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace in the Premier League yesterday. The Hammers took the lead through Pablo Fornals in the 39th minute but the Eagles got back into the game in the second half through Conor Gallagher. The on-loan Chelsea midfielder scored on the 58th minute to bring his side on level terms. In-form West Ham striker Michail Antonio put his side ahead once again on the 68th minute but Gallagher responded with his second of the game just two minutes later. The West Ham fans will be disappointed to have dropped two points here especially after the performances in their first two matches. The Hammers have made an impressive start to the season so far and they could have easily won the game with better defensive organisation. The signing of Kurt Zouma ...
Aston Villa were held to a 1-1 draw against Brentford in the Premier League yesterday. Ivan Toney scored his first Premier League goal in the seventh minute of the game but Villa did well to come back into the contest on the 13th minute with a goal from Emiliano Buendia. The home side were the better team heading into the contest and they did their best to win the game. However, Brentford have shown outstanding resilience and organisation so far in the league and they managed to impress once again. The newly-promoted side were well organised at the back and they managed to keep the likes of Danny Ings quiet throughout the game. Brentford are currently unbeaten in their three league matches and the Bees are 9th in the table, two places above Aston Villa. The Aston Villa attackers did not ha...
Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury is keen to move to Newcastle United on loan before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, according to the Chronicle. The Magpies are operating on a tight budget this summer, but Steve Bruce has stressed the need of signing more players to bolster the squad. Bruce has suggested that the club is looking at loan moves and temporary deals to add some more options to their squad. The 23-year-old midfielder has made 72 appearances for the Foxes since making his debut in 2015. However, he is yet to feature this season, and the club are happy to let him go. Newcastle won’t sign him on a permanent deal, but they are trying to get him on loan. Choudhury appears to be keen to join the Tyneside club. According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, the Magpies ne...
Leeds United will travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday. Ahead of the match, popular football pundit Mark Lawrenson has predicted a comfortable victory for Marcelo Bielsa’s side. The Whites, who impressed heavily last season upon returning to the Premier League after 16 years, are yet to win this term. They suffered a heavy defeat against Manchester United on the opening weekend and came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw against Everton last week. Leeds are looking to pick up their first three points, and Lawrenson feels they will get their first win on Sunday. He told BBC Sport: “Burnley have lost their opening games, but they were decent at times against Liverpool, creating quite a few opportunities early on. “The Clarets have not signed x, y or z player...
Leeds United travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday. The Whites are without a win from their opening two league games, but popular football pundit Mark Lawrenson has predicted a 2-0 victory for Marcelo Bielsa’s side. Leeds have been far from impressive so far. A calamitous second half against Manchester United saw them losing 5-1 in their opening match. They had to come back from behind to secure a 2-2 draw against Everton, where Raphinha scored a superb goal. One thing we have learnt about Leeds under Bielsa is that they are never going to change their style, and it won’t be different when they face Burnley tomorrow. In his pre-match press conference, Bielsa confirmed that Robin Koch is still injured and that the German won’t play any part in the game. However...
Everton boss Rafael Benitez showered praise on Demarai Gray following an impressive 2-0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. The Toffees have made an unbeaten start to the 2021-22 Premier League campaign, picking up seven points from their opening three games. Gray scored the opening goal with a brilliant run and shot, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored from the penalty spot to earn the Toffees all three points. The same two players were on target last week when Everton recorded a 2-2 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road. Gray, who won the Premier League title with Leicester City, joined the Toffees this summer for just £1.7 million. “Demarai is a young player who needed to be more consistent, he is at the beginning [of his Everton career], but he has done well...
Manchester United make the trip to the Midlands for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Red Devils started their season in fine form with a 5-1 thumping of Leeds United, but struggled at Southampton last week. They settled for a disappointing 1-1 draw at St Mary’s and could have easily lost the game if not for David de Gea’s saves. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will hope for a strong reply from his players, but it won’t be easy against Wolves on the road. The games between the clubs have been closely fought in recent years, with the largest winning margin being just one. Formation: 4-2-3-1 Predicted Line-up: De Gea has been under pressure recently, but he has proved a point with key saves. He is widely expected to start in goal. The backline could see a solitary chang...
French outfit Rennes have started negotiating a deal for Gaetan Laborde. West Ham United have been heavily linked with a move for the French striker this summer. 📞#Rennes began negotiations with #Montpellier for Gaëtan #Laborde.👥 https://t.co/jlMXjoSokE — Ekrem KONUR (@Ekremkonur) August 28, 2021 We recently covered a report from Foot Mercato where they claim the Hammers have accelerated talks to sign the 27-year-old. Signing a striker is a top priority for the Hammers, but David Moyes has been left frustrated in his attempt to bring in the right player. Michail Antonio remains the only recognised striker at the club, and the Hammers cannot afford to go an entire season without buying a back-up striker. Laborde bagged 18 goals and nine assists across all comp...
Darren Bent took to Twitter today as Arsenal got battered 5-0 by Manchester City at the Etihad. The Gunners fan pleaded for Antonio Conte to be handed the reigns at the Emirates: Antonio Conte please 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿 — Darren Bent (@DarrenBent) August 28, 2021 Arsenal were so poor against City this afternoon. The defending was as shambolic as it was comical at times. Mikel Arteta is under real pressure now. The Spaniard has spent a lot of money at Arsenal this summer – more than any other Premier League manager. Amazingly though, the Gunner...
Celtic have been heavily linked with a move for the Greek international striker Georgios Giakoumakis for weeks now. According to the latest report from Daily Record, the 26-year-old goalscorer is now closing in on a move to the Scottish club and Ange Postecoglou has managed to convince the striker to sign a four-year contract with Celtic. The report further states that the striker is set to fly in for a medical ahead of a £2.5 million move. Apparently, VVV Venlo will receive a guaranteed fee of around £2.1 million with a further £428,000 included in performance-related bonuses. Giakoumakis scored 26 goals for the Dutch outfit last season and he could prove to be a quality addition to the Celtic attack. The Hoops are overly reliant on Odsonne Edouard to score goals and the arrival of the Gr...
