As the automotive industry continues to shift toward electrification and more technologically advanced vehicles, the days of manual transmissions have long seemed numbered, but now BMW M boss Frank van Meel has expressed his desire to keep the gearbox option alive for driving enthusiasts. Speaking to Autocar, the executive explained that almost 50% of all M2 sales opt for manual gearboxes and that fans of the brand love the option because it gives them a bigger sense of control over the car, despite the transmission making little technical sense to produce given modern technologies. “From a technical viewpoint, there’s little reason to save it,” van Meel says. “It’s heavier, it’s slower and you get worse fuel consumption than the alternative. But the customer and th...

Sharing the sentimental news over on Instagram, Sung posted side-by-side photos of himself standing by the iconic yellow and black Mazda RX-7 FD he first drove in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. As most fans would remember, it was the very vehicle that Han met what the audience believed to be his fateful death in the 2006 film in a fiery crash. Returning to the franchise years later, it turns out that Han’s death was planned and faked by Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody, subsequently allowing him to link up with his old crew once again. “Good ...

At the Qatar Economic Forum, Musk explained that since the cuts would only apply to salaried workers, it would equate to a 3.5% reduction in the company’s employee count. As a result, Tesla would increase th...
To further its efforts in increasing sustainability and reducing carbon emissions, legislators in the European Commission recently proposed a target to cut all CO2 emissions from new cars starting from 2035, effectively banning the production and sale of new internal combustion engine vehicles. However, it now seems that the law will be met with strong resistance, with Germany expressing a refusal to agree with the proposed regulation. In a speech during an event hosted by the country’s BDI industry association by Finance Minister Christian Lindner, the German government official said that the ban — which is also backed by the European Parliament — is wrong and that there would continue to be niches for internal combustion engines in the future. He added that Germany, while also work...
