The Porsche Taycan Turbo S has been introduced as the new safety car for the upcoming ABB FIA Formula E season, making its debut in the opening race in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia on January 28. In motorsports, a safety car, also known as a pace car, is used to limit the speed of race cars on the track in the case of an accident that may have occurred or bad weather. The new all-electric Porsche Taycan Turbo S safety car boasts 761 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of 2.8 seconds, allowing it to quickly take the lead when needed. Interiors are modified to include a racing bucket seat with a six-point seat belt, advanced communication systems, and a fire extinguisher. The exterior paintwork displays the colors of all 11 teams competing in the upcoming competitions, the official colors of FIA and For...
Japanese cars and tuning companies go hand-in-hand, so it’s no surprise that Zacoe — known for its reworkings of Lamborghinis, McLarens, and Porsches — has put its hand to the latest-generation Toyota GR Supra (A90). While recognizable, the Supra has been given a reworking front-to-back. Starting at the front, you’ll find a new bumper that’s adorned with a carbon fiber splitter and flared air intakes, before arching up towards the full carbon fiber bonnet. Air intakes on the fender and deep bulges accentuate the aggressive hood, while exaggerated side skirts are also trimmed in carbon and curve towards the rear where you’ll find flared wheel arches housing a set of satin gold rims that beautifully contrast the matte army green paint. At the rear, Zacoe a...
Thor Industries’ luxury caravan brand, Airstream, known for its rounded aluminum campers, has introduced a first-of-its-kind eStream electric trailer concept. Exteriors resemble a sleek space pod with a rounded silver shell, black tinted windows, gradient front and rear lights, and light bars across the laterals while interiors display a modern aesthetic with staggered bedroom, kitchen, and living room areas equipped with a TV, microwave, and fridge. Solar panels on the roof allow the eStream hosts to operate off the grid for up to two weeks while enjoying the electric-powered amenities. Performance-wise, the eStream is equipped with a built-in electric drivetrain that pushes itself forward while being towed and packs a total of 80 kilowatt-hours of energy in its batteries, producing...
There’s a misconception that electric cars are reserved for fintech bros driving Teslas in Silicon Valley, or that people who own a Nissan Leaf eat only what they drive. It’s an industry clouded in conspiracy theories, often driven by ideologies about oil companies stopping the progression of electrification (Who Killed the Electric Car?, for instance, looks into this further); however, there are plenty of other reasonable justifications as for why the electric vehicle (EV) industry is yet to boom like we thought it would have, taking our 2012 pipedreams into consideration. For Kai Langer, Head of BMW i design and a cognoscente of the electrified automotive world, the global infrastructure needs to evolve before EVs can truly take over. “Infrastructure has to change dramatically, but then,...
Hoonigan has now unveiled its latest vehicle for the upcoming Gymkhana: the 1983 Subaru GL Wagon. Unveiled in a new video over on its YouTube channel (which you can check out down below), driver Travis Pastrana introduces the latest car to join Gymkhana 2022, showing off a beautifully-liveried 1983 Subaru GL Wagon fully kitted out for the job ahead. While not much about its specific specs and tuning were provided, Pastrana says it pushes out roughly 900 horsepower, which is a whopping 10 times more than the wagon’s original model back in 1982. The driver also says that its boxy exterior will give him more control when jumping in the air and provide a better peripheral view around him as well when navigating through obstacle courses. Not much else is known about Gymkhana this year at ...

The Italian marque Lamborghini is renowned for its supercars such as the Huracán and Aventador, but now it wants to expand into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with the Lamborghini Space Key. Developed in collaboration with a yet-undisclosed artist, the Lamborghini Space Key is a piece of advanced carbon fiber that was sent to the International Space Station in 2019, and once it landed back on Earth, Lamborghini tested the carbon fiber composite before making it a part of this special key. Speaking on the composite and subsequent NFT, Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, said: “Innovation is a deeply rooted part of the Lamborghini DNA. As a leading company for carbon fiber composite materials within the automotive sector, we pushed boundaries two an...
Earlier this month, the auction site Bring a Trailer sold its most expensive car ever — a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT for $1.9M USD — and now it hasn’t just smashed its own record, it has broken the record for the most expensive Carrera GT ever sold, totaling $2M USD. The Carrera GT, which originally cost $448,300 USD, has been going up in price ever since it was first released. Just a few months ago in September 2021, a 2004 example sold for $1.3M USD — and that was only the beginning. Much like other modern classics, as well as most Porsches in general, prices for pre-owned rarities are only going up as people turn towards cars that are more geared towards driving and purity, something the Carrera GT excels in. It does this thanks to it packing a naturally aspirated 5...
For the first time in history, it’s been reported that sales for electric cars have exceeded diesel car sales in Europe. According to a Financial Times report citing research from leading Berlin-based analyst Matthias Schmidt, 20 percent of cars sold in the EU and Great Britain were fully electric while sales of diesel vehicles, including hybrids, have fallen below 19 percent. Diesel cars previously accounted for over half of all new cars in Europe as recently as 2015. Gasoline cars are still the majority, accounting for 40% of current car sales, but their numbers are also on the decline. Government subsidies have made EVs more attractive over the years as buyers grow increasingly eco-conscious, and more facilitating infrastructure such as charging stations have been erected around E...
Toyota’s GR Yaris debuted back in January 2020, and has since appeared in various guises from a low-power spec to one covered in a face mask-inspired paint job, and now the Japanese marque’s Gazoo Racing division has unveiled the ultimate Yaris thus far — the GRMN Yaris. Limited to just 500 editions with all heading exclusively to Japan, the GRMN has been treated to rigorous fine-tuning derived from tests conducted by performance drivers, who in turn evaluated what needed to change to make the GR Yaris an even more formidable JDM hot hatch. The result is nothing short of impressive. Aside from a “Circuit Package” and “Rally Package” aesthetic makeover that introduces everything from BBS rims to 18″ brakes and Bilstein shock absorber with adju...

Subaru revealed an all-electric race car at the Tokyo Auto Salon over the weekend. The STI E-RA concept car produces 1,073 horsepower through its Yamaha electric motors and includes torque-vectoring all-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive setup was built per FIA’s E-GT motorsport regulations, which will set the grounds for an electric sports car racing championship kicking off in 2023. The model of the car features cutouts that will aid in pulling air out from under the wheel wells, as well as a front splitter and high-rise rear wing.
