Supercar fans are still taking in the news of Lamborghini’s updated 2022 Countach for the iconic car’s 50th anniversary. Officially unveiled earlier this week, TheSketchMonkey has taken it upon himself to sketch what he believes could have been the tweaks that would have made the car even more special. Putting together the comments of his viewers along with some of his own expertise in car lines, TheSketchMonkey updated the look of the 2022 Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 with some serious retro flair. The video starts off with a nice little history lesson on the supercar and then moves on to the various trims and how each one carried a signature design aspect. Applying those features to the new hybrid, TheSketchMonkey ends up making the biggest adjustments in the form of a larg...
Back in May, the Niels van Roij and Jan-Pieter Kroezen-co-helmed automotive design company Heritage Customs unveiled the “Valiance” — its rusted-out take on the new Land Rover Defender — and now it returns with a one-off, hand-built custom version designed exclusively for the Dutch presenter and actor Winston Gerschtanowitz. Based on the Defender 110 P400e (simply put, the five-door iteration with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a 105kW electric motor), the car is good for 398 HP and 472 lb-ft of torque, resulting in a 0-60 MPH time of 5.6 seconds. For this custom iteration, the powertrain and engine have not been fettled with, but plenty else inside and out has been — with no expense spared. Finished in a classy “Santorini Black” paint job, ...
The Tesla Cybertruck may not be out until 2022, but prospective buyers are already investing in accessories for the electric pickup truck, including a $50,000 USD attachable compact camper developed by software and artificial intelligence company Stream It. The 1,200 lb (544 kg) CyberLandr transforms the Cybertruck into what’s essentially a sleek, high-tech RV and according to Business Insider, it’s already hit $80 million USD in pre-orders since its debut in April. Speaking to HYPEBEAST, Stream It CEO Lance King said he was inspired by the Cybertruck itself, which he called the “most capable vehicle ever created.” “It was simultaneously more economical than a compact car, more powerful than a muscle car, quicker than a sports car, more responsive than a supercar, more capable off-road tha...
Luxury American automotive company Lincoln knows how to pull off a concept car, and now it has unveiled the “Anniversary,” penned by the ArtCenter College of Design and revealed as part of Monterey Car Week‘s The Quail Motorsports Gathering. The car you see above is a real-life, full-sized take on one of the drawings submitted by the students of California’s ArtCenter College of Design, who were tasked with envisioning the Lincoln of the future. Dictated by its “Quiet Flight” brand identity, the “Anniversary” is a car designed for 2040, featuring four seats and two doors for a low, long, swooping coupe look. All around we find nods to Lincoln’s heritage, with the “Anniversary” sporting a huge badge-adorned grille and an even...
BMW‘s X6 M is hardly a shrinking violet, weighing in at 5,209 lbs and packing a twin-turbo V8 under the hood, but this hasn’t stopped the tuning arm, Hamann, from developing its own take on the behemoth crossover SUV. By combining aerodynamic know-how with sporting undertones, Hamann has created an X6 M (F96) of a super-SUV owner’s dreams. On the front, we find a new lip spoiler that blends into the air intakes for a very aggressive stance, while as you work your way around the car, Hamann adds new side skirts, custom “Anniversary Evo” rims measuring 23″ front-and-rear (sitting 35mm lower for good measure), and at the rear, a new diffuser that houses a set of quad tailpipes. However, Hamann is not done just yet. Not one, not two, not three, but four R...
As previewed earlier this spring, Bentley was able to present its highly limited and exquisitely produced Bacalar, created under the Mulliner monicker reserved for the U.K. brand’s coachbuilt vehicles. The Mulliner Bacalar Car Zero – a designation that denotes its prototype status – in Scarab green was one of six presentations by Bentley during Monterey Car Week 2021. Upon approaching, the Bentley Mulliner Bacalar speaks a similar design language to the Continental GTC – a butch, wide, curvaceous shell that is not only expansive width-wise, but length-wise as well. The details bespoke to the Bacalar, as a whole, give the drop-top grand tourer a level of style that commands attention in a shape not seen elsewhere, even within the Bentley brand. Beginning with the rear half, the Bacala...
A patent filed in relation to the Tesla Cybertruck has indicated that the highly-anticipated electric vehicle will feature some futuristic and durable windows that are bent in shape. Filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on August 12, the patent covers windows with “curves and feature lines” and the means of manufacturing them, which Tesla describes as applying heat to the glass via a laser and bending the glass at that location. Additional layers of glass could potentially then be stacked to form a “curved multi-layer glass structure.” The method allows for bending at an aggressive curvature with a radius between 2mm and 5cm that traditional methods can not offer. The patent suggests that it is possible that the interior of the Cybertruck may also be made out of this specialized...
After months of spy shots, automotive fans can now witness the full details of Nissan’s seventh generation Z. The all-new 2023 Nissan sports car maintains what fans saw from the Z Proto, and was unveiled at Brooklyn’s Duggal Greenhouse — just five miles away from where the original 1970 Datsun 240Z made its world debut in 1969. Spec-wise, the new Z sees 400 horsepower via a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, a six-speed (or a nine-speed automatic) transmission with an EXEDY sports clutch, and updates in the interior like a race-inspired 12.3-inch display, sports seats, and a BOSE audio system. Merging the past with the present, the body shape harnesses the Z’s iconic long hood and low rear stance. Ashwani Gupta, representative executive officer and chief operating officer, N...
In 1975, Philadelphia-born artist Alexander Calder laid the foundations for BMW‘s Art Car series with his take on the iconic 3.0 CSL (aka “The Batmobile”), and despite it being one of the most legendary pieces of automotive art in the world, Calder never got to have the car for himself in its final form as he passed in 1976. Today, Calder Foundation and BMW have announced an Artist’s Proof iteration of the aforementioned Art Car, noting that it’s not a “replica, clone, copy, reproduction, facsimile, or 1:1 of the 1975 Calder BMW Art Car. Rather, it is the identical Artist’s Proof that Calder was entitled to but was never realized until now.” The story between Calder and BMW runs deeper than just art, however. Calder started his career as an enginee...
Nissan‘s NISMO division doesn’t just rework cars like the GT-R and the 370Z, it also gets its hands dirty with daily drivers such as Note Aura. This new Note Aura NISMO is exclusive to Japan and draws from the Formula-E-inspired design concept while incorporating the NISMO spirit. With this in mind, the electrified car (which uses a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine that powers two electric motors driving the front wheels) produces 134 HP and 221 lb-ft of torque, which while they may not be hot hatch figures, are still impressive for a small hybrid. However, NISMO’s treatment is more about aesthetics and aerodynamics than power. As a result, a double-layered wing has been added using the red and black NISMO palette, plenty of new NISMO badges appear, and “wide-rim 17-...
Considering that the Ford Bronco was unveiled in July 2020, the Blue Oval brand has already given the offroader numerous reworks and special edition packs — and this isn’t stopping anytime soon thanks to the unveiling of the all-new Ford Bronco Riptide. The project car uses the 2021 Bronco four-door with the “Sasquatch Package” as its base, which features a 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine that’s paired to a ten-speed SelectShift automatic transmission featuring Trail Control, Trail One-Pedal Drive, and Trail Turn Assist. However, the Riptide concept now comes sans-roof and also sports a set of tubular doors instead of standard doors, as well as a surfboard rack and boards on the top of the frame. The purpose of this car is for cruising down the West Coast and headin...
During this past weekend’s Monterey Car Week 2021, Lamborghini commanded its presence with the official unveiling of the “retro” Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4. Its release marks the heralded 50th anniversary of the supercar from the 1970s. While Lamborghini has seen mixed reviews of it modern designs under the umbrella of Audi, the crowds were thick and congested during The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering to get their first glimpse of the new Countach, primarily its attention-demanding front end. The headlights, in conjunction with the rectangular lower intake vents affixed to its “retro” wedged nose give off a highly nostalgic feel from the LP 500. Its subtle design language also gives way to this old-school supercar feel: wide horizontal parallel lines, a th...
