When a company completely rethinks its midsize sedan strategy, dropping a two-decade-old name and giving it sharp styling, it’s not likely to enact large changes to the four-door family vehicle come the following model year. So it is with the 2022 Kia K5, which brings some minor updates but no significant updates to an already much-changed sedan. First of all, there’s a small price hike. The base LX trim’s price increases by $100 to $24,685, while the top-of-the-line GT trim with its powerful 2.5-liter turbocharged I-4 sits at $32,085—a jump of $500 from its $31,585 sticker for 2021. During Computex 2021 (aka Taipei International Information Technology Show), AMD disclosed it is providing APU- and RDNA2-based GPUs to Tesla to use in its new Model S and Model X’s infotainment systems. That explains Tesla’s bold claims, noted on its website, that “[u]p to 10 teraflops of processing power enables in-car gaming on-par with today’s newest consoles” in its Model S and Model X vehicles. Volkswagen is introducing an outdoorsy accessory line for the all-new 2022 Taos. The accessories add a rugged look to the compact SUV and are available bundled together in a package or sold separately. Inspired by the Basecamp line for the Atlas, the package includes custom plastic body cladding, front and rear fender flares with integrated splash guards, and lower side plates. The F-Type R continues on with a 575-hp version of the 5.0-liter supercharged V-8, but it’s joined by a lower-output and lower-priced variant to form the new base model in the F-Type lineup. This means the Corolla Cross will likely make do with 121 horses from its 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and associated electric motors.
