Changing Your ’80s or ’90s Ride’s Oil This Weekend? Motul Has Rad Options

Unless you’ve been cut off from the internet or spent the previous few years under a large rock, you’re probably aware that ’80s and ’90s-vintage cars are red-hot. These rad-era rides were on the posters on recently minted adults’ walls when they were kids, and those recently minted adults now have the cash to go out and buy the Toyota Supras, Ferrari 355s, and old Mercedes-Benzes they grew up worshipping. The nostalgia can run thick for those who manage to snag their dream ride —perhaps thicker than oil. So it seems fitting that the oil they put in their engines drips with the same hazy nostalgia, right? See all 21 photos Enter Motul’s new line of classic engine oils, which are geared toward cars of a certain age (and beyond). While not limited to ̶...

The Genesis G70 Wagon Will Shooting Brake Your Heart

This week, Genesis—the fairly-newly-minted luxury brand from Hyundai—announced it will start selling their wares in Europe starting this summer, and today their social media accounts teased the camouflaged derriere of a wagon version of the G70 sport sedan. Naturally, we have no hope of getting this car in North America, because SUVs are where the money is. “We have lots of exciting new products coming to the US this year, including the GV70 SUV, new G70, and more,” said a Genesis representative, increasing our adrenaline flow before shattering our dreams with: “I can definitely confirm that the G70 shooting brake will not be coming to the US at this time.” Not that we really have reason to be surprised or upset, because although thousands of MotorTrend readers and ...

Ford Bronco Gets Built-In Upfitter Switches, Pre-Wiring for Easy Power Accessory Installs

The 2021 Ford Bronco SUV, which isn’t out yet and is not to be confused with the smaller Ford Bronco Sport that is available at dealerships now, is going to get pre-wired upfitter switches to make powering accessories easier. These factory-installed auxiliary switches (and attendant wiring) will be standard on two- and four-door Black Diamond, Wildtrak, Badlands, and First Edition Ford Bronco trim levels and optional on the Base and Outer Banks versions. There was no mention of availability for the Big Bend trim. The six upfitter switches will be located overhead for easy access, akin to their location on current F-Series trucks. Ever-useful accessory switches are not a new addition for Ford or other manufacturers, which have all been offering this option for many years. The Jeep Wra...

2021 Ford Ranger Tremor Fast Facts: Shaking Loose This Pickup’s Appeal

Ford Ranger Full Overview We’ve just spent a week with a Ford Ranger Tremor, the off-roadiest version of Ford’s midsize Ranger pickup. We came away with these seven takeaways that every off-road-curious truck buyer considering a Tremor should stuff in their pocket. 1. Ranger Raptor? More Like Ranger ZR2 See all 8 photos We’ve seen the Ford Ranger Tremor compared to the larger Ford F-150 Raptor (we’ve even made some ourselves), but that’s not quite fair, as a key ingredient in the Raptor formula—extra horsepower—just isn’t on the Tremor menu. Really, the Tremor’s closest analogue is the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, a direct competitor which has been impressing us for years with its insanely good off-road ability. 2. …or Ranger Gladiator See all 8 photos ...

The Rossmӧnster Overland Baja Truck Camper Replaces the Pickup Bed Entirely

Post-pandemic adventurers, control yourselves. Behold, the Rossmӧnster Overland Baja truck camper, one heck of a cool looking off-grid camper that happens to come with a name suitable for shouting from the mountain tops. Cue the Ricola cough drops commercials. The “Ross” in Rossmӧnster comes from Ross Williamson, the founder of the company and mastermind behind the Baja. Rather than the scary creature that hides in closets (made scarier by umlauts), mӧnster in Rossmӧnster refers to “mӧnster” in the Swedish language, meaning “to design and create artistically, simply, and skillfully,” according to the website. See all 35 photos In 2015, Rossmӧnster Vans started building custom vans out of its shop in Longmont, Colorado, suited for adventuring and overland...

Challenge Accepted: Behind the Scenes of Top Gear America with Rob Corddry

To hear Rob Corddry tell it, his first day of shooting Top Gear America was almost his last. As he was hustling a decommissioned Police Interceptor through an abandoned neighborhood with The Stig hot on his tail, the reality of what he signed up for truly sank in. “Oh, God. What have I gotten myself into?” Corddry says. A year later, he can still remember the thoughts running through his head: “I’m afraid of danger. I have a low tolerance for pain. I’m not a daredevil. What am I doing? There are so many ways I could die.” Watch this segment on episode 5, and you see this interior monologue unfold in real time during the height of the chase. Full of fear, his eyes frantically flick between the road ahead and the rearview mirror—and finally glaze over...

2021 Honda Civic Type R vs. 2001 Acura Integra Type R: Nothin’ But a Good Time

Editor’s Note: Rob here, and I’m excited to present this peek behind the curtain, a rare opportunity for MotorTrend readers to finally understand a bit about how the sausage really gets driven. Please send thank-you cards to my publicist, Sam. Per normal protocol, an editor gives a writer notes aimed at improving a story. A second draft is written, and the process repeats until that word-turd transforms into a turd-butterfly, flying on wings of gracefully plotted ideas and sentences. But there exists a class of elite magazine writers, car journalists in our case, who have evolved beyond this rubric, those with the experience and skill to dazzle in their very first draft. Those with the guts to use the word rubric, even if somewhat improperly. These are the untouchables, and the...

Back to School: TGA’s Rob Corddry Gets a Racer’s Lesson in Performance Driving

There are so many things I wish I could do. I’m not talking about a COVID lockdown to-do list. This isn’t about baking a certain variety of bread no one liked until boredom drove them insane. And I’m not talking about finally guilt-reading those classic novels I faked my way through in college. Faulkner is overrated anyway, let it go. I’m talking about my exponentially expanding thirst for knowledge relative to my atrophying, middle-aged capacity to learn. It’s one of life’s cruelest jokes: When we finally want to learn, we realize our brains have retired early and moved to Florida. They play mahjong with the girls on Fridays and do the USA Today crossword each morning so they can “stay sharp.” I want to do simple math without a calculator. I...

Highway Robbery: There’s a New MT Boss in Town

Welcome, tiny percentage of MotorTrend readers who actually read the editor’s monthly musings! Man, are you in for a treat. You’ve probably already noticed something’s different, not quite right. Or … is it so wrong that it couldn’t be more right? What tipped you off? My warm, gentlemanly greeting? Or was it my devil-may-care style of prose, tumbling gracefully like a figure skater who just broke a shin bone or two. Was that it? Most likely, you looked at the photo above—or the cover of the July issue—saw my face, then screamed victoriously, like a bald eagle after gobbling up a delicious puppy. Then, in a high-pitched register, you called out to anyone within earshot: “The sportscaster dude from Anchorman is the guest editor of MotorTrend this month?! F yeah!...

Ferrari 812 Competizione First Look: The A Team

The Ferrari 812 Superfast just got a little less super with the arrival of the 812 Competizione and Competizione A (apparently the names Superfaster and Superfaster A never stood a chance). The two models are the latest evolution of Ferrari’s front-engined V-12 supercar, with the Competizione maintaining a traditional coupe body style and the Competizione A going the open-topped Targa route. See all 6 photos Under the Competizione twins’ hoods rest the same 6.5-liter V-12 engine that pumps out 818 hp and screams toward a 9,500 rpm redline. Ferrari used some high-tech tricks to increase performance from the big engine, including replacing the usual steel connecting rods with lighter titanium units, adding diamond-like carbon to the piston rings to reduce internal friction, rebal...

Ford Ready to Unleash E-Transit EV Van—For Nearly Fifty Grand (!)

In our first look at the 2022 Ford E-Transit van last year, we were told it’d come at “less than $45,000.” Consider that promise kept—barely. The E-Transit, a rear-drive van powered entirely by electrons, will start at $44,990. While that seems like a lot for an electric work van, a regular gas-fed Transit starts at $43,390, so, not far off. Registration is now open for commercial customers who want to raise hands with an intent to purchase these Transit EVs. Ford claims that 450 commercial customers have “expressed interest” in acquiring these vans, although a rough estimate of how many vans these interested parties might order isn’t yet available. We’ve already taken a detailed look at what the E-Transit has to offer, but as a quick ref...
