Jaguar sold just over 31,000 cars and SUVs in the United States last year, nearly half of which were F-Paces. To say the company’s biggest SUV is its most important model (at least on our shore) is something of an understatement. And now the company’s best-seller—a fat cat gorging on profits, if you will—is getting a major update. Jaguar brings the 2021 F-Pace’s exterior up to date with its current design language, taking cues such as the LED daytime running lights’ blades and the silver strakes in the side intakes off of other models in its lineup. The rear-end gets new taillights that mimic what’s found on the I-Pace, while the rear bumper looks more elegant thanks to a small nip and tuck. It’s What’s Inside the 2021 F-Pace That Counts While the ...
You’re probably not in the market for a pursuit vehicle/cop car, and the closest we at MotorTrend will get to one (hopefully) is a week behind the wheel—which, to be fair, is pretty dang sweet. But for most drivers, there’s still something awesomely intriguing about police vehicles—they’re like forbidden fruit most people will never taste. But we can at least learn about them, and the latest such rides from Dodge, the 2021 Charger Pursuit sedan and 2021 Durango Pursuit SUV, are now in the wild and available for order. See all 11 photos Built with direct input from the Police Advisory Board and officers themselves, Dodge’s fleet of pursuit vehicles are claimed to be technologically advanced and packed full of law enforcement-friendly features. The Charger P...
Labeling a new-car debut story as a “First Look,” as we do here at MotorTrend, can prove slightly limiting on occasion. What if a new vehicle, say, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson, invites second, third, or even seventh looks? If you have only one look to give, however, we say make it last as long as possible with Hyundai’s all-new compact crossover. What’s New? Nearly Everything The current Tucson has been on sale since 2015, having been last fully redesigned for the 2016 model year. It’s a competent if unassuming entry in the competitive compact crossover segment. (It places midpack in our rankings of the class.) The 2022 Hyundai Tucson, on the other hand, is almost entirely new, with fresh styling, new hybrid powertrain options, and a massively overhauled interior....
In the beginning, no cars had roofs. Then the newfangled machines gained folding canvas tops, some with clear side curtains. Then Cadillac became the first manufacturer to offer fully enclosed factory bodywork. Before long, folks were looking for something in-between. Europe answered the call with canvas- or metal-covered roof openings and the patented Pytchley sunroof mechanism in the 1920s. Hillman even offered a sliding roof panel with glass windows on it on the 1933 Aero. Today, sunroofs, moonroofs, panoramic roofs, T-tops, or targa tops are widely available on most new vehicles, each offering something in between a fixed roof and a full convertible. Here’s how to tell the two best-known versions—moonroofs and sunroofs—apart: Are a Moonroof and a Sunroof the Same Thing? See all 5...
Just two years after the GMT T1XX-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups launched, GMC is stirring the pot with useful new features designed to relieve some of the stresses of towing a trailer. That’s a great place to innovate, given that more than half of Sierra 1500 owners and 90-plus percent of Sierra HD owners report towing regularly. And there are a few other upgrades coming for 2021 as well. Trailer Length Indicator Flip on the turn signal of a 2021 GMC Sierra and the center display will show a blind-spot view of the side you’re heading toward, just like on lots of Genesis, Honda, Hyundai, and Kia vehicles, but GMC will shade the road surface in red hashmarks to indicate the area covered by the trailer (actually, twice the length of the trailer, for safety)...
The Ranger Tremor is suspended by a set of Fox 2.0 monotube shocks that come with external reservoirs for better cooling and a specially tuned set of front coil springs and rear leaf springs. The Tremor rides on a set of 17-inch black wheels that are wrapped in 32-inch tall Continental General Grabber all-terrain tires. Put all that kit together and the Ranger Tremor has 9.7 inches of ground clearance. That’s still some ways off the likes of the Jeep Gladiator, which offers 10.0 inches of ground clearance on even its base trim. That said, the Ranger Tremor provides an extra 6.5 inches of extra suspension travel up front and an extra 8.1 inches of wiggle room at the rear relative to its base counterpart. Approach and departure angles measure in at 30.9 and 25.5 degrees, respectively. ...
Even the least expensive Aston Martin—the Vantage—starts at well over six figures. What’s an Aston Martin fan not that flush to do? Well, there’s always the used car market. Or perhaps the nearly $75,000 AMR-C01 racing simulator. Aston worked with Curv Racing Simulators to build what it calls the “ultimate in luxury Esports experiences.” Consider it the Aston Martin Valkyrie of simulators. It just so happens the seating position of the AMR-C01 happens to mirror that of the Valkyrie’s, too. As its high price suggests, Aston’s racing simulator is a truly high-end product that’s built around a race-car-like carbon-fiber monocoque. To ensure no one confuses it with any lesser product, the AMR-C01 incorporates a front-end design that mimics t...
Last month, McLaren introduced a version of the 570S GT4 race car tamed just enough to be allowed on the road. Dubbed the 620R, the coupe is limited to just 225 copies for the world, all hand-assembled at McLaren’s factory in Woking, UK. Now, the automaker is sweetening the deal with an optional R package that includes a beefier exhaust, a roof scoop, and other upgrades but not a name change to 620RR or 620R squared. The R Pack spruces up the overall design with carbon fiber upgrades, including carbon-fiber front fender vents and carbon-fiber interior accents. The package also brings along a special titanium exhaust that’s up to 5 decibels louder than regular exhaust options. It’s finished in a gloss black paint for added visual appeal. The carbon-fiber roof scoop, inspir...
Our $84,845 (as-tested) Aviator Grand Touring Reserve seems to tick all the boxes: a plug-in hybrid powertrain that delivers substantial power when asked and saves gas puttering around town, all packaged within the revitalized Lincoln interior design language that provides room for six. How Does the Aviator Grand Touring Drive? See all 32 photos The Aviator’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6, combined with the hybrid system’s 13.6-kWh battery and 75-kW motor, delivers 494 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque. As such, power delivery is strong and sure. This 5,700-pound beast delivers an estimated 0-60 time in the 5.5-second range. That’s impressive, considering the Grand Touring weighs nearly 800 pounds more than a non-hybrid AWD Aviator. When you floor the accelerator in hybrid mode, you...
Mil-Spec calls its supercharged Blue Oval the Intrepid F-150, as it features the company’s Intrepid Performance Package. In addition to the supercharger, this warranty-friendly high-performance package includes upgraded fuel rails, 47 lbs./hour fuel injectors, an air-to-liquid intercooler within the lower intake manifold, a new throttle body, new intake, and a cat-back exhaust system. Combined with a 93-octane tune, Mil-Spec reports some pretty impressive power numbers: a tire-roasting 675 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque. That’s one step closer to the Ram 1500 TRX’s insane power numbers. See all 18 photos In its quest to create an “alpha pre-runner,” Mil-Spec metaphorically trashed the factory suspension in favor of the company’s Baja Performance Susp...
Next time some obscure component or one of the hundred-million lines of code that run your fancy new Mercedes-Benz goes glitchy, just pull into your dealer’s holodeck to get it sorted out. Okay, the car and service technician don’t get fully immersed in a Star Trek virtual reality den, but with Mercedes-Benz Virtual Remote Support, a set of HoloLens 2 virtual reality goggles running Dynamics 365 Remote Assist software (both by Microsoft) connects a technician at any of Mercedes’ 383 dealerships to an expert service rep who might otherwise have to physically travel to the dealerships to solve a thorny service problem—a hassle in normal times, and perhaps necessary in these socially distanced times. How does it work? The expert sees what the technician wearing the HoloLens ...
For Jeep fans, it was Christmas in July. Looking to spoil the Ford Bronco’s big reveal a couple months back, Jeep dropped the Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept stuffed with a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 from the factory at roughly the same time. Jeep’s people say it’s still “taking feedback” on the concept, and after driving the beast, our feedback is this: Stop talking and start building. It’s not like we all didn’t know a V-8 Wrangler would be awesome. Companies like AEV have been swapping Mopar V-8s into Jeep Wranglers for decades, and other aftermarket companies and enterprising shade-tree mechanics have been doing it even longer. Hell, even Jeep did it more than 40 years ago, putting a 304-cubic-inch (5.0-liter) AMC V-8 in the pre-Wrangler CJ-7 for five yea...
