The One Easy Way to Make Your Wardrobe More Sustainable

There has been a shift within the fashion industry of late. Thanks to 2019’s spotlight on the climate crisis, consumers are more aware of the fact that it is one of the most polluting industries in the world and one that contributes significantly to global warming. However, people’s shopping habits aren’t going to be curbed overnight. So then how can we make sure our wardrobes are more sustainable if we’re not buying second hand and can’t face not shopping at all? The answer lies in one small change: investing in organic cotton. I spoke to three sustainable fashion experts about this material and how it can create various environmental and health benefits: Alicia Taylor, who runs sustainable shopping site Gather & See, Ben Matthews, who is the CEO of sustainable clothing brand Ninety P...

I’m a Picky Shopper and Think This Is the Best High-Street Drop Right Now

Long before Arket and & Other Stories started serving up elevated, design-savvy staples to their adoring fans, Whistles was there, peddling away its wares in a mid-market space that, for a long time, remained relatively unoccupied. It’s a brand that acknowledged there was a demand for higher-quality pieces that were more accessible than designer buys but also a step above the super-low-priced high-street brands. Forty-five years after it first opened its doors, Whistles remains a mainstay on the great British high street. Audi A6 E-Tron Concept First Look: A Luxury Sedan Goes EV

Audi A6 E-Tron Full Overview Very Close to Production While the A6 E-Tron currently enjoys status as a concept, Audi reports what you see is “95 percent” production intent. The sleek new sheetmetal shows off the latest evolution of Audi’s design language; that includes the new “inverted face” front end, so named because it inverts the traditional dark grille area and body-color front bumper treatment of internal-combustion vehicles. This signature will make its way to all of its future electric models, we’re told. The A6 E-Tron also features headlights with customizable rows of LEDs that Audi says customers can configure to display a personal daytime-running-light signature—local regulations permitting, of course. In profile, the most striking aspect of ...

2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime First Test: Toyota’s Best Hybrid Ever

Toyota RAV4 Full Overview Toyota’s hybrids have been called many things, but “interesting,” “fun,” or “fast,” likely hasn’t been on that list. The 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid SUV changes all that. Not only is it arguably the best hybrid Toyota has built to date, but it’s also the quickest non-Supra Toyota we’ve tested in the past five years, and the most-efficient Toyota on sale today not wearing a Prius badge. What’s a RAV4 Prime and What Makes It So Quick and Efficient? The new RAV4 Prime is the plug-in hybrid version of the RAV4. Like the RAV4 Hybrid, the RAV4 Prime sports a 177-hp and 165-lb-ft 2.5-liter I-4 engine mated to electric motors and an e-CVT up front, another electric motor at the rear axle, and a ba...

I’m a Beauty Editor and I Love Boots—This Is What I Always Buy There

There was a brief, blissful time during the early ’00s when a handful of Sephora stores popped up around the UK. Although I didn’t have any awareness of what a big deal this was at the time, I have vivid memories of my 13-year-old self and my best friends taking a monthly pilgrimage to Brent Cross (the journey involved two buses from our homes in the London suburbs and a dash on foot across the North Circular) to spend hours swatching lipsticks and spritzing perfumes there. To us, Sephora was the height of cool, and although we couldn’t afford a thing, there was something about that shop that made beauty products seem like the most exciting things in the world. Boots, on the other hand, did not. With one on pretty much every high street and in every shopping centre in the...

I Tried On Loads of Petite Jeans—Here Are the Pairs I Rate

When it comes to being a petite woman, there are a few things I have learnt to accept. For example, I know I’ll never be able to reach the top shelf of the kitchen cabinets or have a perfect unobstructed view at a music concert. And in pre-pandemic times, I knew that getting on the tube in peak hour would often result in being squished in between other people’s shoulders (or worse, armpits).  While I am perfectly content with my smaller stature and the compromises that it forces upon me, there is one thing I am not willing to settle on, and that is ill-fitting clothing. I stand at just 5’1″, and finding clothes for my size can often be a challenge. And although I’m happy to style an oversize blazer or slouchy knit from t...

27 Wardrobe Basics You Need in Your 30s, From Someone Who Knows

I turned 36 in December, and while I have curated my wardrobe staples over the years, I think I’ve finally settled on a capsule of the below 27 items. Now, well into my 30s, I think it’s safe to say I’m happy with these pieces and I would never switch any of them out for anything else. Yes, newer additions come and go, but these are the ones I wear regularly. I’ve not included items like skirts or wedding guest dresses because as I’ve mentioned, this is about getting dressed daily, rather than for those special events.  This list isn’t about items that are nice to have. This list isn’t about trends, either. This list is all about pieces that will last in your wardrobe, and whenever you wear them, they will ma...

Another 2022 VW Taos Prototype Drive: This Time With Multiple Suspension Tunes

Volkswagen Taos Full Overview This isn’t our first time behind the wheel of a not-quite-ready-for-prime-time version of the 2022 Volkswagen Taos: Last fall, we sampled the new 1.5-liter turbo engine, and this time we were invited to drive more prototypes with suspension tuning that both was and wasn’t close to final. Frankly, at this point we just want to drive the damn production version, but VW seems determined to draw out the introduction like some sort of romantic interlude, minus the candles and prosecco. We’ll play along, though this time we’ll skip the long setup on the small SUV’s market position, tweener status, and baby-Atlas styling because we covered those in our First Look. This time ’round, we were invited to Volkswagen’s hot-weather ...

Audi to Sell New A6 EV Hotness Alongside Old, Different A6 Gas Model

The electrification of the auto industry presents a conundrum for automakers transitioning legacy models from gas- and diesel-powered internal combustion engines to electric motors: what if the industry is ready before the customer is? In the case of the Audi A6, the brand says it’s planning on selling two versions: one gas and one electric, the latter of which is set to arrive for 2024 and bear the name A6 E-Tron. Why Two Audi A6s? Audi thinks some customers may not be ready (or able) to make the leap from gas to electric powertrains by the time the A6 E-Tron hits dealers. Audi cites today’s charging infrastructure as the main reason for this. While growing rapidly, today’s EV charging infrastructure still leaves much to be desired in some parts of the United States (and...

The Aoki Brothers Are Launching an Anime-Inspired Restaurant in Las Vegas

Superstar DJ Steve Aoki and his brother Kevin, a renowned restauranteur, are opening a new Japanese-inspired eatery on the Las Vegas Strip. Kuru Kuru Pa will open this summer as part of the rollout of Zouk Group’s Resorts World Las Vegas, the first resort built on the Strip in the last decade. According to the restaurant’s social media, its design and concept were inspired by Japanese culture and anime. Kuru Kuru Pa’s menu will feature a variety of yakitori and kushiyaki (types of grilled or skewered chicken), and yaki onigiri (a grilled rice ball), among other signature dishes. Kuru Kuru Pa isn’t the first restaurant venture for the Aoki brothers. Back in 2012 they opened Bluetree Café in Honolulu, a juice bar and café known for its beautiful açaí bowls. ...

Genesis Electrified G80 First Look: Genny Goes Electric

Genesis makes its electric vehicle plans official with the appearance of the Electrified G80 at the Shanghai Auto Show. We expect the EV model to show up on our shores within the next year or two, as well, given the brand claims the Electrified G80 is a global vehicle. The parent company of Genesis, Hyundai Motor Company, has big EV plans for each of its brands (Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis). Hyundai is grouping its offerings into the Ioniq sub-brand, starting with the Ioniq 5, while Kia recently unveiled the EV6. See all 14 photos Genesis, meanwhile, previously dabbled in the EV space by way of its concept cars, the latest of which is X Concept, an electric two-door grand touring car. The Electrified G80, however, marks the luxury brand’s first production EV model. The batter...
