The Controversial Knickers Trend That’s Suddenly Everywhere

We understand their appeal; we really do. Still, when it comes to wearing them in real life, we can’t help but feel they’d look like saggy pants. Like us, you may require a bit of convincing, too. And who better to fight the knitted shorts trend’s corner than the influencers who’ve been wearing them on repeat? Many have taken to styling their woven shorts with yet more knitwear. Think soft triangle bralettes and cardigans. Elsewhere, they’re teaming them with linen shirts, or even houndstooth outerwear and a micro bag for a dash to the shops. It goes without saying, they look great, but we have to question their actual practicality. Will they stay up or, worse yet, will they ride up? And will they actually go any lengths to keeping you warm? Perhaps ...

5 Affordable Spring Basics That Will Make You Look Chicer

It’s somewhat of an urban legend nowadays that you need to spend a lot of money to be considered chic. In the past decade, the high-low trend has emerged, vintage shopping has reached peak popularity, and gushing to your friends about something affordable you just scored is no longer considered low-brow. In fact, it’s said cheap thrills that can actually make your entire outfit feel more on-trend and expensive. Whether it’s the addition of a great blouse or cool sandals, sometimes low-cost basics are what end up standing out most in your outfit (and nobody would ever guess was actually affordable). There are a few affordable essentials that almost always fall into this category—from the jumper style that makes your jeans-and–a-...

5 Weird Car Brands You Forgot Disappeared in the ’90s

What’s seldom discussed is that 10 years prior, the industry had gone through a similar, albeit more protracted die-off. The 1990s would be littered obituaries for automakers that simply couldn’t cut it during what turned out to be a transformative period for car companies facing shifting customer tastes and economic trends. While not as acute as a global financial collapse, the decade’s slower-motion impact nonetheless was vast. During the ’90s the hodge-podge of companies that had accumulated after the gung-ho initiatives of the ’80s collided head-on with the realities of the era. Some of these brands were formulated from the ashes of past acquisitions, while others snuck onto the market in disguise to hoodwink a new set of customers. Then there were the fli...

2021 Subaru Legacy First Test: Honest and Decent

Subaru Legacy Full Overview We rattle on about cars that go fast, crush trails, and look like—or literally cost—a million bucks. Those vehicles stir our enthusiast souls, but even though we love to drive, we aren’t every driver. The 2021 Subaru Legacy doesn’t have the attributes that typically make MotorTrend editors salivate, yet it’s a solid vehicle with satisfying comfort, a user-friendly approach, and an easygoing demeanor. What’s more, some of the Legacy’s features aren’t just good for its segment—a few stand out regardless of size, category, or price. 2021 Subaru Legacy: Nice Price, Slow Going While style is subjective, Subaru often jokes that it doesn’t hire expensive designers and passes the savings to customers. We can believe it, as ...

Diablo in Disguise: Bid on an Ultra-Rare, Lambo-Based Vector M12

Fittingly, the corporate history of the ever-enigmatic Vector Motors is just as intriguing as the wild vaporwave twin-turbo doorstop supercars it produced. A condensed history of the company, including its pseudo-production Vector W8 and the subsequent stillborn Avtech WX-3, would be voluminous on the scale of War and Peace.  So for now, we’re fast-forwarding to the mid-1990s, where the Vector story almost takes off in earnest just before burning up as it breaches the atmosphere—and it’s all centered around hostile corporate takeovers, a despot’s son, and a new supercar with a Lamborghini V-12—a supercar you can bid on at Barrett-Jackson’s upcoming Scottsdale sale. See all 9 photos Vector Motors (then Vector Aeromotive) struggled in the early 1990s. The late Ve...

The Official Pokémon YouTube Uploaded a DJ Set from Pikachu With Remixes of the Game’s Music

Because why not, the official Pokémon YouTube channel uploaded a DJ set from Pikachu—and it’s electric. You’ll be shocked (sorry, can’t help these puns) to hear a few remixes of the video game’s iconic music. DJ Pikachu provides a jolt of old-school trap music right off the bat, dropping a remix of the 8-bit track that appeared on the title screen of the Pokémon Red and Blue Game Boy versions from 1996. He then cranks up the voltage with a drum & bass-hyperpop rework of the song while the camera frames him with the cheesy zoom-ins of an early 2000s DIY DJ hype reel. Situated in a miniature digitized DJ booth and flanked by an “amazing LED light show,” DJ Pikachu seems to be using our 90s Game Boy money to fund a promising DJ career. Word is...

I Used to Be Rubbish At Doing My Brows Until I Tried This Product

For me, filling in my eyebrows is akin to wearing a bra. Although, not entirely necessary, especially in lockdown, I just feel so much more put together when they’re on. When I’m popping to the shop, I always quickly fill in my brows to feel more like myself—even if my face is otherwise completely makeup-free. Being naturally blessed in the brow department isn’t something I have been afforded, however. My brows lack a clear shape and grow so painfully slowly that I’m scared to have them shaped professionally through fear that they’d over prune them and I would be left with absolutely nothing to work with. I’m not sure I could handle a permanent ’90s eyebrow.  Instead, I pluck the odd hair here and there and rely heavily on brow products t...

5 Flat Shoes That You Can Happily Walk 10K Steps A Day In

As a self-confessed flat aficionado, I have experienced zero feelings of sadness at the lack of stiletto action in my life over the last 12 months. In fact, being confined to the four walls of my home has meant that I have only developed a greater respect for all facets of the flat shoe: From the toe-warming comfort of my shearling slippers to the slip-on-and-go stylings of my embroidered mules. While some will be rocking their fave sky-scrapers the moment April 12th comes around, I’ll happily continue my life-long love affair with the flat, and I’m ok with it. So, what are the styles residing in the flat shoe hall of fame this year? The loafer is up there with the other power players, thanks to its timeless appea...

2022 BMW iX’s Starting Price Puts It Squarely in Tesla Model X Territory

The 2022 BMW iX is on its way to a dealership near you. Admittedly, it isn’t the prettiest car in the world (its interior design, however, represents a significantly better design effort than that of its exterior), but the BMW electric SUV does signal a host of important changes for the German brand. There’s little doubt, as well, that BMW would like the iX to dethrone the Tesla Model X as consumers’ electric luxury SUV of choice. According to BMW, the iX will start around the mid-$80,000 range for the ix xDrive 50 when pre-orders for the SUV begin in the middle of the year. That sum gets a vehicle that supports charging at up to 200 kW, has a 0-60-mph time of under 5.0 seconds, and ought to manage nearly 300 miles of driving range on a full charge. While we’ll...
