If you’ve ever wanted to know what’s really inside the makeup bags of the most stylish women in the industry, you’re in luck. We’ve created a new column—Inside My Makeup Bag—to uncover the beauty products our fashion friends genuinely keep in their daily rotation, and how much their stash actually costs. I’ll be delving inside their bags on your behalf and totting up every item in there, from the most expensive to the cheapest. Not only will you be left with an incredible shopping list, but also a realistic price tag to boot. Is there someone whose makeup bag you’re dying to see inside? Slide into my Instagram DMs with your requests, and I’ll see what I can do. This month, we’re delving inside the everyday makeup bag of social ...
Over the past 18 months we have seen a shift towards practicality in fashion, and this is seen most acutely with footwear. We need our shoes to be able to take us on countless laps of the park without causing us any trouble, and so high heels have been universally retired. Fashion brands have for several seasons been bringing us sturdy, responsible shoes—the kind of styles that you’d try to run away from when finding shoes at Clarks in year six. Think T-bar loafers, chunky lace-ups and fisherman sandals. The Row and Gabriella Hearst both are adored for their discreet and quiet take on luxury fashion, and although both tend to shy away from anything too flashy or trend driven, they both have a habit of dictating the silhouettes that we’ll be gravitating towa...
Of all the lessons I have learnt this past year, realising I get a lot of enjoyment out of celebrities and their fashion choices isn’t exactly the most profound. But honestly, who can say they haven’t missed the grandiosity of the Met Gala and the outrageous outfits that all come Anna Wintour-approved? Or the high glamour of awards ceremonies (I know we’ve just had the Golden Globes, but you’re lying if you think it’s the same pre-COVID). And what with fashion week front rows not returning any time soon either, I feel I have been starved of A-lister style. I just really want to look at outfits that are massively out of my price range but still inspire me. Praise be, then, to the likes of Alexa Chung who clearly knows what we’ve ...
Ford Bronco Full Overview Unlike removing the 2021 Ford Bronco’s hard top or doors, this procedure is not for everyone. Removing the Bronco’s fenders is not trivially easy, and it shouldn’t be done frequently. You could take the top and doors off every time you drive your Bronco, replacing them when you park it, but removing these panels is a much bigger deal. And please don’t plan on four-wheeling with these panels off, as this leaves sensitive parts vulnerable to damage. The best reason to remove these body panels is to replace them with ruggedized Ford accessory or aftermarket panels to preserve your pretty factory-painted ones while dicing with Jeep Wranglers at Moab or along the Rubicon Trail. (Originality fetishists take note: Many of the fender and quarter pa...
Virtual CES 2021 sucked as much as Virtual Everything Else did, but compelling news broke regarding lidar and autonomous driving. I’m not dialed in enough to sort lidar hype from heroics, so I connected with Tom Jellicoe, an optics expert at the Technology Partnership, a U.K.-based consultancy. Jellicoe was kind enough to Cambridge-mastersplain these latest “third-generation” lidar sensors and their VCSEL array semiconductor lasers to me. For the newbies: Today’s lidar works by emitting pulsed laser light into the surrounding area, which then bounces back to the sensor, allowing the unit to detect its surroundings multiple times per second. This is key to any autonomous vehicle driving and adjusting to everything around it. (Tesla is the lone notable holdout to inco...
For many people, myself included, getting our daily exercise has been one of the few things keeping us going through lockdown. Whether it’s a walk to grab coffee, a quick yoga class after work, a gentle lunchtime stretch or a blow-away-the-cobwebs morning run, it’s amazing how important moving has become as we found ourselves increasingly confined to our homes. At risk of sounding like a fashion editor cliche, I do find that having nice gym-wear can be one way to ensure I actually make it out of the front door. Of course, form and functionality have to go hand-in-hand when it comes to activewear, but as more and more brands jump on the workout bandwagon, we find ourselves spoilt for choice. Case in point: Arket’s...
While social media can be a hub for all things fashion and beauty, skincare is a topic that can get a little tricky, especially when certain products start to trend. I’d be lying if I said I haven’t been guilty of succumbing to a viral product only to be disappointed when it didn’t exactly work for my skin. While following trends for clothes and makeup can be an easier feat, with skincare, it’s crucial to be cautious because what works for others may not work for you, and some products may seem like they’re working but can actually cause damage and irritation later on. It’s important to pay close attention to the ingredients before purchasing a product and to consult an expert if possible, especially if you’re facing s...

Depending on which day you read this, there are currently around 17 days until spring officially starts, but we’re already beginning to see its effects. Sure, it’s still pretty cold out, but even the chilliest regions (where I live being one of them) are witnessing other signifiers that spring is indeed on the way; lighter and longer days. While I ordinarily love the winter months—bundling up and heading out for a steaming hot chocolate is one of my favourite pastimes—this year I find myself willing springtime to come. And what better way to prepare for its arrival than by thinking ahead to all the spring jackets I’ll get to wear. Making the switch from coats to jackets feels transformative; there’s something so hopeful about being able to step outside in ...
See all 16 photos So, think of the new C40 as a coupe variant of the existing XC40 Recharge, only this is one of those fastback SUVs, such as the Porsche Cayenne Coupe or Mercedes GLE Coupe, that retains all four doors and simply uses “coupe” as a call-sign for its slightly more dramatic profile. This is the XC40 Recharge, only a little swoopier and a bit more aspirational. Underneath, the C40 Recharge rides on the same CMA platform as the XC40 and the aforementioned Polestar 2. It scoots around with the XC40 Recharge’s electric powertrain, too. A 78-kWh battery juices a set of front and rear motors to the tune of 408 hp and a thick 486 lb-ft of torque, enough grunt for a 0-60 mph hustle of 4.7 seconds. Like the XC40 Recharge, the EPA-estimated range is a usable 210 ...
See all 5 photos Playmobil just might have the answer with its Volkswagen T1 Camping Bus. Yes, it’s a toy that casts a shadow much smaller than that of an actual VW Bus, but at $49.99, this plastic German van also costs a fraction of the price of the real thing. You need not be a child to enjoy this toy, either, as Playmobil markets it for individuals as young as 5 and as old as 99 years old. Sorry, folks who’ve crossed the century mark—guess this van just isn’t for you. Those within Playmobil’s assigned age range, however, can enjoy the intricate exterior and interior details of this T1 Camping Bus. This includes its split-windshield, roof-mounted luggage rack, and two-tone—red and white—exterior finish. Inside, Playmobil fits this van with a bench seat that ...
Woody is a little different from its iconic siblings. Firstly, the bag’s not made from leather, real or faux. Instead, Woody’s body is constructed using a heavy-duty, durable canvas, trimmed with flashes of rust-coloured leather, which flank the logo-emblazoned cotton canvas ribbon handles. A thing of beauty, and although it’s undoubtedly made with the warmer months in mind, we’re already predicting the Woody will be a sell-out as soon as it debuts. Why? Because the shoe iteration was, and remains, a best-seller. Also affectionately named Woody, the flat rubber and cotton canvas slip-on sandal was a huge hit this past summer and has recently seen a restock at Net-A-Porter. Naturally, after its success, the designer shopping behemoth has also invested in th...
