Hyunda-iCar? Apple and Hyundai May Partner on Autonomous EV

The idea of a self-driving, electric Apple Car is tantalizing and news reports suggest Hyundai is the latest automaker to want a piece of the action. The buzz started with a report in the Korea Economic Daily in which a Hyundai Motors executive said the automaker was one of a number of global carmakers in early talks with Apple about a possible partnership. The story said Apple approached Hyundai about producing the electric car and supplying batteries—Korea is a global leader in lithium-ion battery cells. Apple is a notoriously secretive company, so we were not surprised to read a subsequent statement from Hyundai that specifically does not mention Apple: “We’ve been receiving requests of potential cooperation from diverse companies regarding development of autonomous driving ...

2021 Volkswagen Arteon First Test: Pajama Shorts Antidote

Volkswagen Arteon Full Overview I don’t know about you, but I haven’t left home as much as I’d like to over the past few months. The business-casual attire I used to don before reporting to MotorTrend HQ goes largely unworn. Instead, my casual-casual clothing—pajama shorts, soft tees, cozy hoodies, and the like—is on constant rotation. Part of me enjoys the lazy functionality of this new uniform, but another misses having reasons to get dressed up, to not sit inside looking like a schlub. Try on the Volkswagen Arteon, and you’ll find yourself in a peculiar balance between these modalities. The brand’s flagship sort-of-sedan makes you a point of fashionable focus while not asking for—or providing—any more involvement than pajama shorts or fuzzy slippers. Can th...

This Simple Outfit Is Officially 2021’s Lockdown Uniform

As a fashion editor, it’s a part of the job description to be able to spot emerging trends. We spend much of our time looking to runway shows, designer collections, celebrity events and of course, social media to be able to recognise of-the-moment styles and outfit formulas. However, with lockdowns imposed across the country, understanding the trends of the moment has become less about what celebs are wearing on the red carpet, and much more about what Britons choosing to sport during their daily walks and supermarket runs. And, as every editor on our team agrees, this time around there is certainly a ‘lockdown uniform’ that has come into play.  Whether it be at local parks or outside coffee shops, over the last few weeks, I have spotted so many women ...

SATC Is Coming Back—This Is What I Want to See Carrie Wearing

There are many things that will be different about the confirmed reboot of Sex And The City: For starters, it’s going to be called And Just Like That… a phrase plucked from Carrie Bradshaw’s internal monologue and whimsical writing style. ‘Tis a new chapter for the New York City gals, but one they shall be venturing into as a threesome—Kim Cattrall has opted out, which won’t come as a surprise to anyone who keeps up with the news on this cult TV show. “The series will follow Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s,” reads the HBO press release. And while we all want to know how th...

These Jewellery Brands Create Pieces So Special They Are All Future Heirlooms

Many of the retail shifts we have seen in the past year of lockdowns have been highly predictable, such as the spike in sales of jogging bottoms, jigsaws and Farrow and Ball anything. However the increased sales of fine jewellery is one shift I would have never predicted, however this is a luxury sector that saw impressive (and unlikely) growth last year. “We have had a brilliant reaction to fine jewellery, which has grown 150% year on year,” says Natalie Kingham, fashion and buying director at Matchesfashion.com. “I certainly think women still want to treat themselves, especially at this moment. I have invested in several pieces recently knowing that I will love and treasure wearing them far longer than a season. You can wear fine jewellery every day and c...

Wow, These Print Trends for 2021 Are Bloody Great

There’s no right or wrong when it comes to wearing prints in 2021. No particular patterns could be considered “out” and there’s a great deal of freedom when it comes to jazzing up your daily wardrobe with all manner of motifs. Stripes? In. Polka-dots? Yes. Florals? Naturally. If it’s printed and you like it, wear it. If, however, you’re a pattern and print fiend like me, you’ll want to know what’s looking especially new and lively for the spring/summer season ahead. And unlike other trends that require warm weather or even—whisper it—a holiday, you can jump right into print and colour ideas whilst the weather is still grim. In fact, now is a time when designers and stores are really backing the concept of joyful fashi...

Looking at These 28 Blonde Bobs Made Me Cut My Hair

Being experimental with your hair doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to go all-out with new hues, statement fringing or lashings of layers. Often, the simplest switches make the most impact. Right now, as our strands continue to grow without the prospect of a cut any time soon, it seems everyone is busy dreaming of and mood boarding potential styles to opt for once the salons are back up and running. And, with more time to ponder on and weigh up the pros of a dramatic change, I thought it might be worth sharing my recent experience in hope it might inspire some of you. You see, I recently chopped off my lengthy blonde hair to join the bob/long bob brigade. A few months back, after researching for a feature on blunt bob hairstyles, I convinc...

It’s no secret that the lives of musical artists often come riddled with mental health struggles, born from the multiplicity of stressors that come from the life of a touring public figure under constant scrutiny. From Katie Holmes to VB, Not a Single Celeb Is Wearing Skinny Jeans Anymore

For almost two decades skinny jeans were the denim look du jour, with celebrities such as Kate Moss and Sienna Miller giving us plenty of drain-pipe inspiration via a steady stream of lust-worthy looks. Well, if the last year is anything to go by, A-listers are having a change of heart and have well and truly converted to the non-skinny silhouette. Hard-hitting stuff indeed. From VB’s leg-lengthening flares and Stacey Dooley’s straight legs to Katie Holmes’s wide-leg styles, the shopping world is your oyster when you look outside the skinny jean category. Plus, with high-street and high-end brands alike embracing a new, and wider, variety of denim fits, you know there’ll be a pair to match your budget.  If you’re lo...

15 Moisturisers That Won’t Clog Your Pores at All

You’ve probably heard the term before and thought it sounded good for the most part but didn’t really know much about it. “Simply put, a non-comedogenic product has been tested to not clog pores,” explains board-certified dermatologist Ife Rodney, MD, FAAD, of Eternal Dermatology and Aesthetics. “That means it’s less likely to cause acne. Though, this is not guaranteed. Dirt, dead skin cells, or sebum can clog the pores, causing acne. Comedogenic products—usually heavy or greasy—can also clog your pores. It’s important to note that non-comedogenic products won’t necessarily treat your breakouts. They just won’t contribute to the problem.” While non-comedogenic products are helpful for just about anyone, those with oily, sensitive,...
