Fashion Buyers Are Genuinely Excited About These 2021 Trends

Thanks to my power-hungry nature (a true Capricorn to the end) I’d love to say that fashion editors are the most powerful people in the industry. But that’s very much not the case. There is a group of people that has a bigger influence over how we shop: Fashion buyers. Those who specialise in this role, especially for luxury retailers, spend a lot of time behind the scenes working out just what the public want to spend their money on. They have impeccable taste and understand just what it is about a certain designer, collection, It bag or pair of shoes that will make shoppers part with their cash. It means then that I always want to know what buyers are after when shopping the new season as it’s a good indication of what is likely to be incredibly popular in a c...

These 5 Brands Make the Most Joyful Clothes Out There

Designers faced huge challenges when designing their spring summer 2021 collections—not only because of logistical and practical barriers, but also because they were creating clothes for a year that has many question marks over it. One common theme across all the collections was joyful, fabulous clothes designed to make you, and others, smile. “We have may found ourselves dressing to look good, but now we dress to feel good. Our buy will adapt to this by embracing a casual shift without losing speciality,” says Liane Wiggins, Head of Womenswear Buying at MATCHESFASHION. “We have seen our customers engage more and more with joyful fashion and uplifting pieces. There is definitely an appetite from our community to dress up again. It has been incredible to see the ...

The Hardest-Working Staples to Buy Now and Love Forever

As an editor of a fashion website, I spend a lot of time reporting on new trends, new labels and new ways to wear things. However, sometimes you really never can beat a classic, and it’s arguably more important to build a wardrobe that you’ll love for years, if not decades. Thinking of the longevity of your purchases not only is a way to have a more sustainable approach to fashion but will also help you to carve out a style that is timeless and feels truly you. The idea of a capsule wardrobe created a real buzz around 2014 when a number of industry figures promoted a compact closet built of pieces that all perfectly match. There are some items that we think will always rise high above trends, making them the perfect pieces to invest in and add to your capsule (or not-...

Trust Me—These Will be the Most Requested Hair Colours in 2021

The truth is, while it might seem as though our hair has been put through the wringer, for most of us, the situation isn’t as bad as we think. In fact, several hair stylists I have spoken to this year have been surprised to find out that a lot of their clients’ hair is healthier than ever before. Why? Because we’ve been giving our strands a serious break. Less heat styling, colour treatments and bleach application, as well as many of us turning to nourishing at-home masks and serums means that our hair is in a much stronger state than it was this time last year. And while we sadly didn’t get to live out our hair colour dreams this year, things are looking up for 2021. With the hope that we can get back in salon chairs on a regular basis again soon, our strands are finally ready for a ...

Holy Moly—Zara’s Christmas Sale Just Suddenly Started

And if you want more pointers, we have an insider who gave us some valuable tips on how to shop the Zara sale in the UK so expertly that you’ll be guaranteed to get there first (and find the pieces you’ve been eyeing up all season).  Our intel is that you should go for the things that’ll be the most popular first. So opt for the higher-priced goods that will sell out quickly (e.g., cashmere, handbags, shoes and coats). “Other pieces like shirts are likely to still be around for the second markdown,” recommends our insider. Also remember to research trends before buying for the upcoming season so you can see what will last. “Customers will always ask, ‘Will you be getting more stuff like this?’ Honestly, the staff will have no i...

27 Blunt Bobs That Are Making Me Completely Rethink Having Long Hair

Having a hairdresser for a mum has meant that I’ve done just about everything you can think of to my hair. I’ve been platinum blonde, mahogany brown and everything in-between. I’ve framed my face with feathering and had thick fringes cut in. I’ve had hair down to my waist and chopped to my chin. It’s fair to say I was pretty earless with my tresses. That is until I got older. I don’t know why, but for some reason, I’ve defaulted to long length hair in a creamy hue with lived-in roots. Now, though, after witnessing some impressive hair transformations on Instagram of late, I’m finally going to give my ‘do a refresh. And the look I’m toying with is a blunt bob. The blunt bob has undergone a bit of a resurgence in 2019. A far cry fro...

The Coat Trends We Predict Everyone Will Be Wearing in 2021

Out of all the fashion staples in our wardrobe, the coat is probably the item that has worked the hardest this year, and something tells us the same will be said for 2021. As we enter a Christmas holiday period like no other, the humble coat will be an essential part of our style arsenal for all those socially distanced walks and outdoorsy get-togethers. Luckily, the New Year is set to usher in a host of outwear trends that combine both form and function. The elevated puffer is, of course, sticking around and is surely one of the warmest things you can throw on on a freezing January morning, but next year they’ll come in more elevated silhouettes: Think puffer-style trenches and quilted styles. There’s also plenty of fluffy fabrics (a technical term), and by...

6 Celebrities That Genuinely Made Us Shop This Year

It’s been a strange year for celebrities and fashion. Most red carpet events have been cancelled—from the Met Gala to some of the biggest awards shows, not to mention there’s been no Cannes or big weddings either. While initially we were disappointed by the lack of A-lister outfits, there are still some key people who have influenced the way we dressed this year, and dare I say even genuinely made us shop too. Thanks to Instagram, music videos, and the celebs doing normal stuff like shopping, we’ve been able to get our fix despite the lack of red carpet events. So, who makes the cut for 2020? Top of my list has to be Harry Styles whose style has not only pushed boundaries but has influenced whole Tik Tok viral trends. There’s also Katie Holmes, Tracee Ellis Ross, Ro...

I’m a Beauty Expert and These Are the 6 Beauty Lessons That 2020 Has Taught Me

But then 2020 happened. Much like everything else in life, the events of the past year or so really have messed with my beauty routine. Spending more time at home, rethinking my product budgets and a big shift in general priorities have meant that I’ve been forced into doing things a little differently. For example, whereas once upon I time I may have spent an hour applying my makeup before dinner, this year, my makeup drawer has gone largely untouched. Similarly, while monthly facials were once a set fixture in my diary, the past few months have seen me adding various new skincare products into my line up in a bid to get my glow back. And it is as a result of this shift in priorities that made me realise that I still have many beauty lessons to learn. Much like everyone else I k...

2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E: Is the EV SUV Comfortable for Tall Folks?

Being so damn tall makes it hard to drive sports cars. There are some I simply can’t physically get inside. That’s one reason why I love the Ford Mustang—it easily fits my 6-foot-10 frame. So, I had to find out if the Mustang Mach-E could match its coupe counterpart’s surprising spaciousness during its stay in our stables. 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E: Squeezed in the Saddle Key in my pocket, I walked up to the driver-side door and pushed the release button—no handles here. The door popped out so I could grab its little fin to swing it open. Like I always do, I adjusted the seat to its lowest and rearmost setting before climbing in. The front door apertures are large, which made it easy to slide in (and later out) without knocking my noggin. So far so good. But...

The History of the Rugged, Full-Size Chevrolet K5 Blazer

Ford had the Bronco. Jeep had the CJ. Even International Harvester—the tractor company—had the Scout. And General Motors had…nothing? Into that sport-utility vacuum, the Chevrolet K5 Blazer was born. With it, GM created a 4×4 that was both a direct response to the existing spectrum of SUVs and yet also apart from it. The key difference was size: Unlike its would-be rivals, the Blazer was based on the automaker’s successful full-size pickup truck. That cost-saving measure allowed it both to come to market quickly and to deliver greater capability than its competition. See all 7 photos Sun’s Out, Top’s Off Chevrolet was no stranger to the SUV world, having produced the Carryall/Suburban—a large, truck-based wagon—since the mid-1930s. Although offered with four-wheel drive, ...

Viral TikTok Creator Engineers Trash Can into Insane Speaker System

A creative TikTok user has gone viral lately after engineering a trash can into a speaker dubbed the Blast Bin and sharing footage of tunes being played on it. With this new invention, you’ll be able to subtly let your friends know how you really feel about their SoundCloud mixes when you play their set on a trash can. All jokes aside, the speaker itself is quite impressive and well-engineered, as you can see in the embedded videos from his Instagram page. As previously mentioned, the creator did a great job with his build as the sound is actually pretty solid considering it’s coming out of a literal trash can. It’s funny to see how he packed so much power into the bin that it lifts the lid with each bass punch.  Interestingly enough, one commenter question...
