Recently we were armchair quarterbacking the theory that the Kia Stinger was not long for this world. Even though the Stinger itself is a great car, lackluster sales are a sign that potential buyers aren’t as fired up as us critics. But we’re happy to report that, for now at least, we’ve been proven wrong. Kia just announced a slew of updates to make the Stinger both more handsome and more upscale. Citing an early order guide, CarsDirect reports a 2021 Mazda CX-30 Turbo is set to follow the Mazda 3 2.5 Turbo, packing the same turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder found in that car, the CX-9 and CX-5 crossovers, and the Mazda 6 midside sedan. The 2.5-liter turbo makes 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque on 93-octane fuel (or 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on regular) in the 2021 Mazda 3, and we expect similar numbers from the CX-30 Turbo. That amount of power would represent a significant bump over the regular CX-30, which makes 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft from a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four. Both the S90 and XC90 Recharge—that’s Volvo’s new name for its T8 plug-in-hybrid electric vehicles, as the T8 badge is retired—get a major price cut for 2021. The XC90 Recharge is now $64,445 at base—a $3,550 reduction compared to the 2020 T8—and that’s before a possible $5,419 federal tax credit is applied. The S90 Recharge is now $3,150 less expensive than it was last year, and will start at $61,045 in 2021, again, before the tax credit. The price difference between Volvo’s T6 and the plug-in-hybrid Recharge trims has been made considerably smaller for 2021. In 2020, the gap between the XC90 T6 and T8 was $10,700, but in 2021 it’s been brought down to $6,500, and a similar discount has been made to the S90.
